Happy Friday Everyone!

We’re back with what is, in essence, a VHS review today as we take a look at a recap of the career of Billy Kidman. However, this feature actually aired on pay-per-view rather than being released on video. That sounds odd, so let me explain. Around 1998/99, WCW started making a collection of home videos that featured profiles of the WCW wrestlers. They called this the “Superstar Series” and the initial tapes that came out covered the big stars in the promotion such as Sting, Ric Flair, Randy Savage etc. Some of these tapes even made it over to the UK, which was impressive because we didn’t always get a decent supply of WCW home video content over here, even though we were a reasonably healthy market for WCW at the time.

Ultimately there were four volumes of the Superstar Series that hit the video shelves, with each volume containing two superstars. Volume One for instance featured a section on Sting and a separate section on Goldberg. WCW did go on to make more of these Superstar Series features, but by that point we were moving into the dying days of the promotion so these features never actually got physical releases and were instead released as discounted pay per views, making them not quite lost media, but still pretty obscure. However, thanks to the fine folks at F&C, the Billy Kidman edition of Superstar Series is now available for me to view and I decided to give it a look-see, seeing as I always tended to enjoy Kidman’s work and I would look forward to his bouts whenever he appeared on WCW Worldwide when that show aired on Channel 5 here in the UK.

We’re filling out my WCW pay per view archives today with Sin, which was WCW’s first pay per view event of 2001 and was supposed to begin a “Seven Sins” theme for their events, which they followed up with WCW Greed in March 2001. Sadly the company didn’t live long enough to hold WCW Sloth, although there would have been plenty of candidates to complete in the Main Event of that particular show.

We’ve got WCW World Champ Scott Steiner defending his belt against Jeff Jarrett, Sid and the dreaded Mystery Opponent in the Main Event, whilst Goldberg is teaming up with his trainer against Totally Buffed in the Semi-Main. Thankfully we’ve also got the Cruiserweights in the undercard who are likely to deliver some good wrestling, which should keep this one out of Stinker territory if nothing else.

Happy Friday Everyone! (I hope your day isn’t too unlucky)

We’ve got a WCW home video release from 2000 today, courtesy of F+C, with the Fan Favourites aspect of it being that WCW fans supposedly voted for the four matches that were included here, one of which I don’t think I’ve ever sat down and properly watched before.

Let’s have a look and see if the Fan Favourites included on this tape are deserving of inclusion or not.

We’ve got some World Championship Wrestling today, with an hour of good old fashioned wrestling from WTBS courtesy of F+C. This week we’ve got Ric Flair showing up for some promos, whilst Ted DiBiase and the Road Warriors will see in-ring action. Decent star power there and we’ll hopefully have some fun squashes and interview segments

I tried to find the full card for this episode of World Championship Wrestling, but Cage Match looks to be a bit confused about the line-up. I’ll post it below anyway and any history buffs can let us know why we’ve got the mix up

I read the Scott Keith WCW Mayhem 2000 re-post last year and it looked like a potentially interesting show, so I decided to give it a review this week seeing as I’ve never watched it before.

We’ve got Booker T Vs Scott Steiner in a cage, Lex Luger battling Goldberg and Jeff Jarrett colliding with Buff Bagwell as the major matches, so hopefully some of those will end up being fun at least.

If you get to see this Starrcade review then it means I managed to get to it a year ago before WWE Network sadly went away. I’ve reviewed Halloween Havoc and World War 3 previously, so you can get yourself up to date with the goings on in WCW during this time period before we pick things up here with the Starrcade review.

The big story going into Starrcade is that New Japan Pro Wrestling are working with WCW here and are going to do a mini-tournament with WCW in order to decide the World Cup of Wrestling. Some of those matches should hopefully be good, whilst some others probably won’t be.

This one is being written in December 2024, as I try to review both Fall Brawl and Starrcade before WWE Network goes away here in the UK (Hi, September 2025 Mike here; I managed it in the end). Fall Brawl has an infamously awful War Games match, but it also has Brian Pillman Vs Johnny B. Badd and Ric Flair Vs Arn Anderson, so I’m looking forward to those matches at least.

I’ve managed to get to this one before WWE Network goes into the quiet night here in the UK, so let’s continue our journey into 1995 WCW with Great American Bash! (Future Mike; I ended up reviewing all of the 1995 WCW pay per view’s in December 2024 before the Network went away, so you can look forward to them. I sadly missed out the August COTC though because I forgot it was a thing and by then it was too late to go back and do it).

Our Main Event sees Randy Savage looking to get revenge on Ric Flair for the events of Slamboree. We’ve also got Arn Anderson defending the TV Title against The Renegade and the Finals of a WCW US Title tournament.

WCW The Great American Bash 1995 Card

Happy Friday Everyone!

I’m writing this in the tail end of December 2024, meaning that this will probably be the end of my journey into 1995 WCW unless some sort of a miracle happens with the archives over on Netflix (Or the WCW Vault channel on YouTube uploads the full WCW pay per view archive). I’m almost sad that I couldn’t make it to the absolute disaster that was going to be Bash at the Beach, as I was probably going to have a lot of fun burying that one in a shallow grave. As it is though; Slamboree 1995 is where our journey might be ending. (Spoiler; I managed to get the rest of the 1995 WCW pay per views done after cramming towards the end of December 2024)

We’ve got Ric Flair and Vader taking on Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage in the Main Event, with Sting getting another crack at Big Bubba in the Semi-Main.

WCW Slamboree 1995 Card

Happy Colliding Friday Everyone!

WCW didn’t have a pay per view in April of 1995, but they did contribute some wrestlers to this show in Korea, which was one of the many examples of a dodgy government trying to use Pro Wrestling for the purposes of sports washing. Collision In Korea sees New Japan, WCW and All Japan Women wrestlers competing over two nights in giant stadium in North Korea, most of which was filled with “fans” who had been “gently persuaded” to be there.

You can get more info on this by checking out the Dark Side of the Ring episode that covers it, but it certainly didn’t sound like a fun time for the wrestlers that took part in it. Most of the Koreans didn’t want the wrestlers to be there, and the reception towards them ranged from hostility to indifference depending on what the wrestlers happened to be doing at the time. We’ll see a LOT of the latter when we actually get to reviewing the matches.

The Collision in Korea pay per view is a mash-up where they’ve taken a selection of matches from both nights and thrown them together for a two hour showing, complete with some nice juicy North Korean propaganda sprinkled in. You can view the full cards for both nights by clicking below;

I’ve only got three shows left when it comes to reviewing WCW shows from 1999, so let’s knock one of them off the list with Souled Out. If WWE Network is still a thing later in the year, or if the archives go to Netflix, then we’ll look at getting Fall Brawl and Mayhem done, as I’m always going to need topics for Stinker Reviews.

I don’t think Souled Out will fall into that category, as some of the matches on the card look promising and we’ve got Scott Hall working with Goldberg in the Main Event, so hopefully Razor will have his working boots on and will be able to get something out of “Da Man”

I’ve already reviewed Starrcade 1993, so we don’t have a 1993 WCW to show review this time out (this is an unlucky day after all), hence why we’re watching Clash of the Champions #9 instead. I’ve chosen Clash #9 to review this week as I’ve never seen it all the way through and who knows what’s going to happen with the archives when WWE moves over to Netflix, so let’s get Clash #9 watched whilst I still can.

The big match is Terry Funk and Ric Flair battling in an I Quit match, but we’ve also got The Midnight Express and The Dynamic Dudes going at it as well, so there should be plenty to look forward to!

Back at Halloween Havoc, Hulk Hogan finally won his feud with Ric Flair, but then a new one started when Kevin Sullivan, The Avalanche and Brother Bruti left him laying. We’re continuing our journey into 1994 WCW today with Halloween Havoc. When we last left things back at Fall Brawl, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan had agreed to another match for the World Title, whilst Steve Austin had both won and lost the US Title in quick succession. We’re heading back to WCW 1993 today, following on from the below average Fall Brawl 1993, as we head into spook season with Halloween Havoc 1993!

The big match here features Cactus Jack finally getting a shot at revenge against Vader, after the monster sent him to Cleveland earlier in the year. Elsewhere we’ve got Rick Rude and Ric Flair going at it as The Richard Powers Explode, along with Sting trying to fend off the challenge of Sid Vicious.
