WWE Evolve September 16th 2026
By Phrederic on 16 September 2026
Welcome back to Evolve where hopefully this show surpasses last week, we have a title match tonight as well as other stuff, certainly, but before we go further, catchup on what’s been going on with the greater WWE universe! And if you want to watch tonight, here’s the link!
Main Event – Impact – Smackdown – TripleMania Night 1 – TripleMania Night 2 – Raw – NXT
We start with some walk and talk as Evolve Champion Harlem Lewis talks about how becoming champion is the biggest moment of his career, he does what he says he’s going to do, and all he has to do is Keep His Head (as the camera pans to a tattoo that says the same). He’s channeled his rage and aggression perfectly and now everybody wants to chase his gold and tonight it’s Cutler James, who is undefeated on Evolve and is a blend of strength and smarts (say what again?) and DarkState could be lurking. Harlem says that the win streak ends tonight as he’s just another victim on the Harlem Violence World Tour.
Harlem is a fine promo, but his character of “angry tweener” is less interesting to me than the blue-collar babyface thing he was doing before.
SHOUTING! FLIPPING! POSING! SCIENCE! It’s Evolve!
Kale Dixon w/ Alix Brooks vs. Ulka Sasaki
Background: Kale is an Arrogant Young Man who is a former baseball athlete and is doing a vain pretty boy gimmick with Alix whose character is Hot, and Blonde. Ulka Sasaki is doing an excursion from Pro Wrestling NOAH and he’s a very old vet, being in his mid-30s but only having a few years in the biz, he was however a pretty elite MMA fight (he made the UFC!) for a long time and has a ton of ‘legit’ martial arts credibility. He’s a long-haired pretty boy as well but has a pretty scrawny physique, he also had a really good match with Charles Dempsey a few weeks ago.
The Match: Lockup and some standing grappling before an international sets a shoulderblock by the American but Ulka baits a kick and gets a trip into a rollup. A few armdrags from Sasaki and an elbow gets 2 but a charge gets sent to the apron and Alix trips up Ulka in the ropes and he eats a Kale knee and some ground and pound from the outside before dragging Sasaki to the floor for some stomps and then sends him back inside…where Ulka gets a few strikes and tries for a juji-gatame but Dixon breaks with power and more stomps from the former baseball athlete and then a backbreaker. The crowd chants their opinion of Kale and a backdrop for now cover and Dixon gets a running chop to the back of Ulka and a low-thrust kick for 2.5. Kale picks Sasaki up who throws more elbows and slugs Dixon into the ropes but Kale just break, snapmare and chinlock. Ulka breaks and hits a jumping kick, some boxing dodges and then a superman punch before Kale tries to use speed to escape with a rope-run sequence but Ulka comes up short out of the corner and catches Kale with a kick out of a float-over attempt. Big spinning roundhouse kick from the man from Japan gets 2.9 but Ulka keeps on it and picks Kale up, a few reversals has Sasaki grab a sleeper but Kale turns that into a jawbreaker, lifting double-underhook facebuster but when Kale sets up for something, Aaron Rourke (who Kale screwed over in the gauntlet match) runs out puts his jacket on Alix and says it looks better on her which leads to the most unstoppable move in WWE, the surprise rollup, though at least Ulka added a bridge, for 3.
*¾
Much like the Phenomenal One this was a Styles Clash! At some point Ulka I think figured out that he just needed to do some standing brawling as the ornate technical sequences are not in Kale’s bag, so it was a lot of “start doing a move and then another guys just goes into his move” reversals. They played a bit up that Kale was bigger/stronger/more athletic but not THAT much. Weird, weird, weird, match, but as overplayed as that finish is in WWE, Rourke getting his revenge and setting up Ulka for an actual win AFTER the heel already cheated is perfectly logical babyface comeuppance. 1.5 for the match, quarter for the perfectly fine (if overused) ending.
We have It’s GAL, Sam Holloway and Marcus Mathers backstage and It’s GAL is getting respect for making the save last week and the ID 1.0 guys hype up Big Daddy Red. It’s GAL soaks in the love, and while chest day is best day, staying humble and helping friends is what gives you respect. A random Braxton Cole appears and harumphs all over this idea of humility and respect and Marcus Mathers says that he remembers what Cole did to his ankle (and a helpful video reminds us of the time Kam Hendrix pillmanized Marcus with Braxton’s help…my goodness who hasn’t beat up Mathers?). Cole laughs about his prior act of violence but says he has ‘bigger’ things to deal with and Marcus is IRATE!
Hey, babyface It’s GAL is a fresh breath of air, very excited for. I am so excited for his prospects I will refuse to check twitter as I am sure he is doing very well and everything is great for It’s GAL! Also my goodness Marcus Mathers being this level of punk has to be a rib, right?
We return with Blake Howard and Worst GM In The History Of Pro Wrestling Robert Stone as they lets us know that October 14th is Succession 4!
But now a vignette for Vanta the Unknown who calls out Laynie Luck as being full of fear. Not fear of loss, but fear of being replaced, so many years of sacrifice until a younger, better, faster athlete walks through the curtain and replaces her. Fear the Unknown!
Spoooooky! But hey, I’m digging the vibe, and she got physical and has a feud now.
Harley Riggins is in the locker room and he’s peeved, though in all honesty that’s his default status. Riggins is mad cause he should be the number one contender but It’s GAL screwed him over, but it doesn’t matter cause he’s got next.
Milosh Jovic is making his way to the ring for his debut, he’s announced from Serbia (a Jovic from Serbia??!) and has racing checks on his trunks, but first, a vignette! Life is a race, he’s speed, explosiveness, and horsepower! He’ll make Serbia proud and begin his journey to the top.
Milosh Jovic vs. Elijah Holyfield
Background: Well we just learned who Jovic is, but Elijah doesn’t need an explanation as the son of the Real Deal, he’s already got some experience and history in Evolve winning a feud with Brooks Jensen.
The Match: We start with some jabs from Elijah as Milosh backs into the ropes while Blake Howard tells us Jovic was a DE in the European Football League and an Olympic bobsledder and a motorcycle racer. Jovic sneaks out of the ropes and tries a go-behind but Elijah shrugs it off and knocks the Serb down with a shoulder, more power from Holyfield as he’s just eating Milosh alive with a short-lariat and then a vertical suplex but Milosh gets a few shots and a dropkick, but runs into a spinebuster and then the Elijah Uppercut gets 3.
**
Butternut squash can be stored through the winter if left in a cellar or basement. This kinda reminds me (to a lesser extent) of when they had that big scary guy being hyped for weeks in NXT and his first match…Samoa Joe runs out and destroys him. El Hijo de Real Deal looks good, Milosh…I dunno if Serbian Racing Enthusiast is quite enough but a solid debut.
Post-match we have Adrianna Rizzo (I’ll try not to cry) interviews Elijah and puts him over as a threat and a contender. Elijah says that this is just what he does, he came here to be the best and he’s always been the best, in the SEC or in the ring, he’s a dangerous man and he’s declaring for the Evolve title…but here’s Braxton Cole (less tears for this one) to say that we’re all getting ahead of ourselves. Braxton puts over Elijah for being a tough guy with a great uppercut and he’ll be a top guy…after Cole. Braxton says he’s a winner but here’s Marcus to hit Braxton from the back and into Elijah but security is immediately here to break it all up.
Elijah is fiery if generic on the mic, Braxton is…heel 101. Totally fine feud to see what happens if Holyfield is against an act as green as Cole.
Now a vignette on Cutler James, he’s dominant, he’s a force, he can’t be stopped. And Harlem Lewis might think he’s violent, but DarkState does more violence and the undefeated streak continues when James wins the gold. Get ready Harlem, cause that title…ain’t safe.
How is this a worse promo than when he was talking about butts?!?
Sloane Jacobs is out here to do her hype-woman routine and talks up how much Nikkita Multimedia dominates everything she does, but tonight it’s about how much she dominates the ring and is the most dominant, greatest women’s champion of all time, ever. Lyons comes out and Sloane brings up that she thought that maybe we’d get another concert performance…but Nikkita lets “these peasants” know that they don’t DESERVE such a thing! HOW DARE SHE! These fans don’t even deserve another title defense! But next week is special as it’s an all women’s showcase for Evolve and Lyons will headline against Skylar Raye. Nikkita mocks Skylar for being a peppy cheerleader and when Sloane chimes in Lyons cuts her down before saying that we need to eliminate fake positivity from our aura and take a deep breath…but Skylar Raye interrupts and says she’s grateful for the invitation. Raye thinks that Nikkita is ducking her, and while Lyons knocks Skylar for being a cheerleader…isn’t that all Sloane is? YA BURNT! Skylar isn’t ashamed of her past, and while her path wasn’t traditional, she’s proud of the steps she’s taken. Skylar got the word of approval from HoFers and she knows that’s a lot of pressure in the stacked division of NXT and Evolve and she doesn’t take that pressure lightly, and the next step is winning the title. But now PJ Vasa is here to interrupt and she isn’t happy, Nikkita tells Sloane to deal with it and get a match against Vasa, and Jacobs wants NO part of that but reluctantly steps outside and begs off. We get another flash of Wendy Choo’s face on the Evolvetron before PJ demolishes Jacobs, Nikkita tries to blast Skylar with the belt but Raye counters into LA MISTICA! LA MISTICA! And Lyons powders while PJ menaces from the back.
Boy they are laying it on THICK that Sloane Jacobs is the put-upon lackey of Nikkita. Skylar has pep but needs depth. PJ I think accounted for herself well but uh…well we know what happens there. Still, I see the moving parts.
Now we are walking and talking with Elijah Holyfield and he’s discussing what Braxton Cole said and thinks that Elijah is an easy target. Elijah talked to Thatcher and in two weeks we’re getting a match with Braxton…and just as Elijah is about to step away from the camera, he comes back to remind us that his fists are Rated E for Everybody, and if Marcus Mathers wants to get into Elijah’s business he can get knocked out too.
Oh, so a triple threat, okay.
More backstage segments it’s Harley Riggins making his case to THE FOREMAN Timothy Thatcher and he really should be the number one contender and to make sure he’s got the next opportunity he’ll be out there watching. Thatcher says that whenever Harley and Harlem are out there at the same time, chaos happens and Thatcher doesn’t care for pandemonium or disruption (unlike the worst GM in pro wrestling, Robert Stone, grrrrrrr…) and Riggins takes affront at that and questions Thatcher about that, who cracks me up by bluntly saying “Yeah! You’re a walking disruption!” Thatcher tells Harley to stay backstage and this makes Riggins even more angry and starts to ask if they have a problem but Timothy shuts that down and says he’ll pretend that wasn’t a threat and tells Harley to get out of his office.
One of the best parts of Timothy Thatcher is that he isn’t a pushover and he will stare down wrestlers and cause of his extensive history and rather fearsome demeanor it’s credible. It’s a nice switch considering how so many GMs are pushovers that get walked around by heels all the time. Harley has nice blustering bully energy too and I think he might be a hotter prospect than I’d previously thought just cause he can handle himself on the stick a bit, you immediately know what sort of guy Riggins is.
Harlem Lewis (c) vs. Cutler James – Evolve Championship
Background: Harlem is our scowling tweener champ, he’s been a blue-collar family man babyface but is now more of a violent, angry, focused man, thought Cutler James has been ramping up his heelishness as a big and brawny grappler who represents DarkState, they of the…well they’re just burly guys who beat people up as a sorta ripoff Shield. Anyway, Harlem is defending against a guy who is bigger and stronger than him. Cutler is in a black singlet with the DarkState logo on it, Harlem is in red shorts and a bandana.
The Match: Weird bit as Harlem sorta jaws at the fans to start us off but commentary puts over his hardluck life, though I guess his Matt Fact lets us know he recognizes and exploits his opponents strengths and weaknesses, so I guess he’s pure tweener. Headlock from Cutler to start us off but Harlem runs James into the corner before Cutler brushes that off and goes back to the headlock. Harlem gets a bit technical and actually a pretty physical fight out of the headlock with an elbow before an armwringer but Cutler double-legs Lewis and cranks in a chinlock now. Harlem fights up but gets taken down again and Harlem fights up again and breaks with a jawbreaker but Cutler just boots him down and now Cutler talks trash but Harlem slugs back and then tries to lock James in the ropes for some armwork but Cutler is too big so Harlem goes up and hits a second-rope stomp to the arm instead. Harlem clotheslines Cutler outside and then follows with a dive…but Cutler catches him for a backbreaker and we go to a break. We’re back with Cutler delivering a hard whip to Harlem and then another. Cutler with some uppercuts but Harlem gets a boot and goes for a middle-rope crossbody that is caught and turned into a ribbreaker for 2. James stops to sell the arm and can’t get another whip but he settles for a backbreaker anyway. Now Harlem goes for a whip on the weak arm and drives Cutler’s arm into the turnbuckle and then goes outside to work it against the post. Flying boot for Harlem gets 1 and then a crossface as Lewis works the arm but James just picks the champ up for a sidewalk slam (shoutout for Robert Stone, worst GM in history, asking how Cutler did it with one arm while he visibly used two) and we have a double-down. Both guys up and we’re doing a slug out as both guys are stumbling around. Harlem gets a tiger knee but he goes for more and Cutler launches the champ up for an uppercut to the back of the neck and gets a few clotheslines and more uppercuts before a gutwrench gutbuster and then tries for Dark Matter (Spinning crucifix toss) but Cutler apparently hurt his arm in the process and can’t make the cover as Lewis rolls to the outside. Cutler follows to brawl but accidentally clotheslines the ringpost, spear by Lewis, back inside and Cutler immediately gets The Vortex (Swinging side slam backbreaker) for 2.9. Cutler stomps away and goes for a second Dark Matter, but he has to do it one-armed and Harlem slips out for the Boomslang (Jackhammer) and that’s 3.
**½
So, I liked a lot of this match, but man, Cutler is so dull, and while Harlem was a weirdly good face in peril for most of the match, he completely stopped selling his back at a certain point. I think the psychology was sound, Lewis breaking down the bigger guy worked and uh…why is Harlem a heel? He has a sympathetic backstory and seems to work better as a scrappy face than a brutal monster who isn’t that big or that imposing. I will give respect to Lewis for putting Cutler over as a monster in the match and I wish James had more than just “he is actually very strong, like he is actually a very strong dude.” If both guys bothered to sell at the same time I’d be higher on this, but it was a well-plotted, not properly executed enterprise…and yet Cutler’s best match ever somehow.
Post-match a furious Harley Riggins fights through security geeks to threaten Harlem and say he’s next and now It’s GAL is out to bluster with Harley…but the champ cuts them off and tells them to stop whining and says they should have a match for the title shot as we have a big brawl to end the show.
Well folks, it was a LOT of yap tonight, and I will say that I didn’t mind it as the yapping was broken up. In all things, the amount of time spent on talent we know got released is going to impact my enjoyment a bit, I’ll admit, but I do see some “final beats” for these characters before they move on. Sharper, more organized show even if we had some clunky matches.
Next week of course we have an all-women’s edition of Evolve which will be headlined by Nikkita Lyons defending the women’s title against Skylar Raye.
Stay happy, stay healthy, keep reading, I’ll keep on writing and most importantly keep on evolving, my evolvemaniacs (except you Robert Stone).
