AAA Triplemania Night One: Las Vegas – 09.11.26

It’s TRIPLEMANIA time, so if you skip a hookup to watch this show, I AM PROUD OF YOU. (Blog lore alert!) TripleMania Night One airs live on Youtube from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. This should be an incredible weekend of lucha, and I’ll be here to bring it to you along with the following English-speaking announce team: Corey Graves and John Bradshaw Layfield. Your ring announcers are Jesus Zuniga and Lilian Garcia. There are six matches on tonight’s card so let’s watch some lucha!

Arrivals: Mr. Iguana with his bride (?!) La Yesca, AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Laredo Kid, and AAA Latin American Champion La Parka. Also arriving is El Ojo, lead by Dorian Roldan and AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio, who are flanking the man in tonight’s main event, Omos. El Grande Americano is the chauffeur this evening for Omos’s main event opponent, AAA GM and WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio runs through the history and pageantry of TripleMania. Mysterio talks about the card and says it’s time to for everyone to take risks to become one of the all-time greats.

The AAA announce team of Roberto Figueroa and Jose Manuel Guillen introduce things for that audience and then throw it to Graves and JBL at ringside. (Green Shirt Guy is at this show, for the record.)

Adelicious, Mascarita Sagrada, and Mini Vikingo vs Lady Shani, Mini Abismo Negro, and Jack Cartwheel

JBL questions the “mini” portion of Abismo’s presentation and claims that MAN outweighs him! Big, if true. Shani starts with Adelicious and Shani takes the immediate lead with some kicks. Shani hits an armdrag takedown and there’s a series of covers exchanged for two. Shani begs off as referee Eddie Orengo checks on her. The medical team emerges as the match comes to a halt. Sagrada tags in and MAN comes in to face him. Sagrada hits a springboard facebreaker and ascends for a rope-assisted senton that gets two. Cartwheel and Vikingo tag in and there’s some verbals before an athletic sequence that ends with the two of them doing the superhero flip-and-landing. Cartwheel offers a handshake, and Vikingo obliges. The respect ends quickly and Cartwheel uses his body as a weapon with a slam stand that gets two. MAN tags in and Cartwheel sends Vikingo into a MAN airplane spin before Cartwheel nails Vikingo with a 360 splash. MAN’s cover gets two.

MAN pounds away on Vikingo’s head and then hoists him up for a vertical suplex. MAN nails Vikingo with a senton and gets two. Cartwheel tags in and slams Vikingo with knees as MAN has the referee tied up in a corner. Vikingo uses an MAN loft to nail Cartwheel with a rana, but MAN prevents Vikingo from making the tag. Sagrada gets the tag finally and he runs wild on MAN before crushing him with a middle-rope crossbody. Cartwheel’s attempt to break up the cover with a Twisted Bliss is seen by Sagrada, and when he escapes poor MAN takes the brunt of Cartwheel’s landing. Sagrada drags Cartwheel into place and his leap is met by Cartwheel’s boots. Sagrada uses that to flip onto MAN and rana him to the floor. Sagrada yanks Cartwheel up for a suplex and fires MAN down with a tilt a whirl suplex before nailing MAN with a rana. Vikingo crushes Cartwheel with a crucifix driver and Adelicious hits the entire pile with a crossbody. Vikingo nails everyone with a tope con hilo before running MAN back in. Vikingo nails MAN with a Shooting Star Press and that finishes things.

Obviously the injury to Lady Shani changed the match flow entirely but this was good business from start to finish in terms of an opener. The stars here were Cartwheel, Vikingo, and Sagrada and deservedly so. This got the crowd warmed up and hopefully ready for more. All good thoughts to Shani, and hopefully whatever took her out of the match wasn’t too serious. 2.75*

Los Perros del Mal have arrived as have AAA Trios Champions Los Psycho Circus (Dave the Clown, Murder Clown, and subbing in for the not-cleared Panic, Psycho Clown) ahead of their big showdown tonight.

Cain Sandoval is a boxer who is ringside, and of course Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is also in the crowd. CELEBRITIES!

Fatal Four-way Elimination Tag Match: LWO (Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde) vs Tokyo Bad Boys (Kento and Takuma) vs Los Americanos (Rayo and Bravo Americano) vs FrAxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom)

It’s Kento and Axiom to start. They smack each other in the head and Axiom hits an armdrag and a single-foot dropkick. Del Toro tags in and nails Axiom with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Bravo tags in and del Toro leaps right into an Atomic Drop from Bravo. Bravo fires off some rights and lefts before disposing of Wilde and a charging Takuma. The Americanos stand off with FrAxiom, and a Pier Six breaks out everywhere. Bravo ends up trapped in the LWO corner as del Toro does the Ronaldo to no pop whatsoever. del Toro wallops Bravo with a chop which only serves to fire him up. Wilde cuts off the flurry and drapes him over the top rope. Frazer tags in and he and Axiom send the LWO packing, followed by the Tokyo Bad Boys. There’s an avalanche of dives and Frazer runs del Toro back in. Frazer wants a sunset flip but del Toro nails him with a shotgun dropkick and a springboard moonsault that gets two.

Wilde is using his hairspray when del Toro wants to tag, but he quickly remembers he’s in a match and comes in. Wilde hits a tilt-a-whirl facebreaker on Frazer and then drops him with an X-Factor. Frazer fires up and Wilde stops his ascent before tagging in del Toro. Del Toro goes coast-to-coast and covers Frazer for two with Axiom breaking up the cover. The Bad Boys start kicking the crap out of Axiom on the floor as Wilde inadvertently sprays del Toro with his hair spray. Axiom tags in and he and Frazer combine on a missile dropkick that eliminates the LWO.

Del Toro and Wilde appear to be very unhappy with each other as the action continues with Rayo and Axiom. Bravo and Rayo dance as Frazer nails them both with a top rope dropkick. Frazer nails Bravo with a dropkick and Takuma tags in. Takuma and Kento stomp away on Frazer but Frazer fights out of it briefly. Takuma nails Frazer with a legdrop and Kento follows with a splash that gets two as Axiom again breaks up the cover. The Bad Boys start a violence conveyor belt that ends with a powerbomb on Axiom. Kento and Takuma smash Rayo with a double superkick and Takuma crushes everyone on the floor with a springboard twisting moonsault. Frazer gets his knees up on a Kento Shooting Star Press attempt and Bravo tags in. Bravo manages to hoist Takuma on his shoulder while hitting a Giant Swing on Kento. Bravo eats a Takuma reverse thrust. Los Americanos and FrAxiom combine on double missile dropkicks to eliminate the Tokyo Bad Boys.

Frazer and Rayo start and Rayo just clubbers Frazer before dropping him with a release German. Frazer responds with a running Shooting Star Press. Rayo catches Frazer with a mid-air forearm that gets two. Rayo gets caught with a superplex followed right away by a twisting suplex. Bravo tags in as does Axiom and they start chopping away. Axiom hits a rana for two. Bravo’s sit-out powerbomb and subsequent cover of Axiom is broken up by Frazer’s low superkick. Rayo charges in and gets dumped by Frazer, and Bravo sends Frazer packing as well. Axiom and Bravo square off and Axiom hits a springboard reverse DDT for two. Frazer tags in and misses his dive before running into Bravo’s boots. Axiom shoves Bravo off the top rope and Rayo pushes Frazer into Axiom’s missile dropkick. Rayo yanks Axiom into a Bitter End. Bravo ascends and nails Frazer with a top rope rana, while Rayo’s frog splash only gets two. Rayo pounds away with forearms but Frazer responds with a twisting spike DDT. Frazer nails Bravo with a kaman giri and Axiom returns to get a tag. Axiom hits a Spanish Fly on Bravo and Frazer follows with a Phoenix Splash that gets two as Rayo breaks it up. Rayo and Frazer get tagged in and after some SMALL JOINT MANIPULATION Bravo ends things with a diving headbutt that eliminates FrAxiom.

If you like frenetic chaos tags, this was your jam. I thought the Bad Boys had a good outing here and I hope they get more chances soon. The LWO stuff is very played out at this point, and really doesn’t register with the AAA fans as much as it did with longtime American fans who remember the original WCW faction. FrAxiom and Los Americanos being the last two teams here did not surprise me, but one wonders how much longer Axiom and Frazer should team up at this point. Fun match, and I’m fine with Rayo and Bravo as winners. 3.25*

Reina de Reinas Number One Contender’s Match: Nattie Neidhart vs AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion La Hiedra vs Faby Apache vs Roxanne Perez

AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Flammer joins the proceedings to watch this unfold from ringside, and she annoys JBL thoroughly by joining the Spanish announce desk. There’s a series of cover attempts to start and no one can get more than a two count. Perez gets ganged up on and tossed to the floor. Hiedra blasts Nattie from behind and sends her to the floor. Apache fires off an armdrag and a rana on Hiedra before nailing her with a kick to the head. Apache gets yanked to the floor by Perez who then runs her into the ring steps. Perez invites Hiedra in and sneaks past her to clip Hiedra’s knee. Perez pounds away and Hiedra bails. Perez gets dumped out by Nattie who runs Perez into the ring steps. Nattie faces off with Hiedra and Perez and Nattie combine to hold Hiedra for an Apache running boot. Apache and Nattie put Perez and Hiedra into surfboards before dropping them face-first onto the mat. Apache and Nattie start slugging it out with Apache hitting a quebradora backbreaker to end the skirmish. Nattie and Apache square off in a corner but Hiedra and Perez fly in to break it up. Apache gets dropped by a Perez facebuster that gets two with Hiedra breaking up the cover.

Apache rolls Hiedra over a bunch of times and then has her trapped in an arm submission. Nattie pulls Hiedra into a Sharpshooter, so Perez breaks it up by tearing at Nattie’s face. Apache slaps an inverted Figure Four on Perez, but Perez escapes it and slaps on a crossface. Apache tries for the ropes but Perez rolls her back to the center. Perez hits a La Magistral and rolls through into a standing cover that gets two as Hiedra breaks it up with a senton. Nattie comes in and Hiedra nails her with a stunner that gets two. Hiedra hoists Nattie up but Nattie slips off and puts on a sleeper. Nattie sweeps the leg and wants a Sharpshooter but Perez breaks it up. Nattie puts the Sharpshooter on Perez instead and Apache breaks it up with a sling blade on Nattie. Perez grabs an inside cradle on Hiedra for two. Hiedra nails Perez with a Michinoku Driver that gets two. Perez nails Hiedra with a running enziguri and Flammer comes in with her title belt. Perez pushes Hiedra into Flammer which sends her to the floor, and Perez ends things with Pop Rox on Hiedra.

This was an awkward-at-best affair, and probably could have used some rehearsal for some of the spots they were going for. Nattie and Apache are both long-time vets and did reasonably well, but Hiedra has some strength issues that caused some spots to be very awkward. Perez as a challenger for the title makes sense if you understand where things are probably going on Sunday night during Flammer’s defense against La Catalina. This was okay, but the styles clash was real. 2.5*

Winner AND NEW Reina de Reinas Championship Number One Contender – Roxanne Perez (Pop Rox on Hiedra)

Post-match sees a grumpy Flammer staring down Perez and also giving some stink-eye to Hiedra. There’s some verbals between the Las Toxicas stable-mates and they seemingly squash it before leaving together.

Rey Mysterio gets some love from the Security crew and here’s El Grande Americano in for some pre-match chat with the GM. EGA promises that no matter what happens he will always be on Mysterio’s side. Mysterio talks about being at the first ever TripleMania and now 34 years later he’s at the latest. Mysterio admits he doesn’t match up with Omos physically but his heart and spirit will take him through. They shake and touch heads.

AAA Latin American Championship: La Parka (C) vs AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Laredo Kid vs Mr. Iguana

Iguana emerges with his new Vegas bride La Yesca. Laredo attacks Iguana at the bell and Parka intervenes. Iguana chops away and Laredo smashes Iguana with a splash and a superkick. Laredo grabs a rollup for two on Parka and then does the same thing to Iguana. Iguana and Parka square up, and the best (storyline) friends do some acrobatics before standing off again. Laredo breaks up that fun with a blow to the back of Iguana’s head. Laredo and Parka start slugging it out and Laredo mashes Parka with a running forearm and a springboard twisting moonsault. Laredo covers Parka for two. Laredo gets mashed by an Iguana dropkick and bails to the floor. Iguana nails Laredo with an over-the-top-rope rana and Parka tosses Iguana into a helpless Laredo. Parka nails both opponents with a moonsault to the floor and runs Laredo back in. Parka hits a rolling stunner on Laredo for two.

Parka hoists Laredo who slips off. Parka nails Laredo with a quebradora backbreaker and Iguana re-enters to nail Parka with a cross-body. Iguana nails Parka with a crucifix driver and Laredo breaks up the cover at two. Laredo slaps Iguana full in the face and screams at him. Iguana fires up and nails Laredo with a springboard headbutt followed by a Shining Wizard that gets two. Iguana tries another springboard move and Laredo shakes it off. Laredo nails Iguana with a tope suicida and then yanks Parka down when he wants a springboard moonsault. Laredo hits Parka and Iguana with a rolling tackle from the ring post to the floor. Laredo tosses Iguana back in and blasts him with a 450 splash that gets two.

Parka flies in and nails Laredo with a Backstabber that gets two. Parka rises and he and Laredo slug it out before Parka crushes Laredo with a dropkick that gets two. Parka slaps Laredo in the chest and fires him over with an Exploder in a corner. Parka hits Laredo with a tope suicida and runs right into an Iguana armbar. Parka yanks Iguana up and pounds on him in a corner, but ends up getting dumped by Laredo. Laredo nails Iguana with a running forearm before mounting him on a top turnbuckle. Laredo ascends and Parka flies in to hit a TRIPLE SPANISH FLY. (GOOD LORD.) Parka covers Laredo and gets two. Parka yanks Laredo up and immediately eats a poison rana. Parka responds instantly with a crucifix driver, but Laredo ends up on top and gets two. Parka rolls to the floor as Iguana ascends for a leaping headbutt. Iguana hits Get Green and covers Laredo for two as Parka breaks up the cover.

Parka and Iguana beef on the floor and Iguana gets pushed into Parka by Laredo. Iguana fires off a headbutt on Laredo but gets hoisted up and Parka nails Iguana with a sort-of improvised Doomsday Device. Parka yanks Laredo up for the Bonebreaker and that ends things with Parka retaining his title!

There was almost no crowd heat for this, which was a major surprise for me given Iguana’s popularity with American audiences. La Parka got a nice pop when he won the match, but otherwise the crowd kind of didn’t know what to do with this match. La Parka remains very popular, as is Iguana, and Laredo played the rudo challenger role very well. This is your match of the night thus far, but it wasn’t a high hill to climb just yet. 3.5*

AAA Trios Championship: Los Psycho Circus (Dave the Clown, Murder Clown, and Psycho Clown) vs Los Perros del Mal (Daga, Berto, and Angel Garza)

Karmen Petrovic is out with Los Perros. There’s a Pier Six to start and Angel drapes Psycho over the second rope as Berto tags in. Berto whales away from the outside before covering Psycho for two. Psycho slips a charge and wallops Berto with a couple of rights before dropping him with a powerslam. Dave and Psycho drop Berto with rights and then drape him over the top rope as the enormous Murder flies in with a senton splash. Dave covers Berto for two. Dave snaps off a rana and Berto fires up with some elbows. Dave gets dumped to the floor with Daga tripping him up. Daga and Angel attack on the floor with Daga firing Dave back in for a cover that gets two. Daga and Dave slug it out a bit before Daga snaps off a dropkick. Angel smashes Dave’s leg on a ringpost and crushes his knee with hammerfists.

A fight breaks out on the other side with Daga and Angel destroying Psycho and Murder. Angel drapes Dave in the PDM corner and Berto goes to work with high boots on Dave’s damaged knee. Berto smashes Dave with shoulders but Dave manages to fight his way out. Dave fires up with a powerbomb on Berto. Murder and Daga tag in and Murder just runs amok on all three PDM members. Murder hits rolling splashes and then hoists Daga and Angel on his shoulders for a Samoan drop. Psycho dumps Berto to the floor and then removes his top mask. Psycho nails Angel with a tope and then Murder ascends for an enormous cross-body on all three PDM guys on the floor.

El Carnicero flies in from the crowd to start beating on Dave from behind. Psycho flies in and he and Carnicero start fighting all the way to the back. Murder continues smashing the PDM crew around before coming back in. Angel holds up Murder long enough for Daga to do some damage before nailing Murder with a German that gets two. Murder fires up with a series of lariats and then mounts Data on a turnbuckle. Murder ascends and nails Daga with a superplex that gets two as Berto breaks it up. Dave comes back in and gets beaten down by Berto. Dave nails Berto with a lariat and Petrovic leaps on to the apron for some distraction. Dave gets dumped and Berto sends both of them tumbling into the timekeeper’s area with a lariat. Daga bites Murder, but Murder shakes it off briefly. Angel powerbombs Murder and Daga ends things with a top rope double stomp. We have new champions!

So with Panic being unable to go tonight, they moved the Carnicero interference into place to set up the Sunday night street fight between him and Psycho. The Circus had held the Trios titles for quite some time, and now Los Perros will be presumably be very difficult opponents for anyone trying to claim them moving forward. I thought this was good for what it was, which was essentially a train wreck brawl from the time the bell sounded. Daga remains great at what he does, and Murder stood out for his dexterity while being, well, immense. 3.25*

Winners AND NEW AAA Trios Champions – Los Perros del Mal (Daga double-stomp on Murder)

After some commercials, it’s time for the main event.

AAA GM and WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio vs Omos (If Omos wins, he’s reinstated from suspension. If Mysterio wins, Omos is gone from AAA permanently)

This match came together at Ola de Calor during the contract signing for the Mega Championship match that will headline Sunday’s Night Two. Omos is flanked by AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and Dorian Roldan during his entrance. Mysterio is accompanied by El Grande Americano.

We get the obligatory “this guy is enormous, and the other one is tiny” moment as they go face to…face. Rey gets some “OLE!” chants as he slips an Omos charge. Omos seems unimpressed and Rey bails to the floor. Rey keeps running but Omos pushes him over after some Rey kicks. Omos crushes Rey with a back elbow and then jams his knee into Rey’s back. Omos tosses Rey down and stomps on his chest. EGA tries to gee Rey up and Rey plays some cat and mouse with Omos before nailing him with a dropkick. Rey tries a pescado and Omos catches him before driving a knee into Rey’s ribs repeatedly. Omos looms over Rey and gets a high five from Dom. Omos presses Rey directly in front of his wife Angie Mysterio and then tosses him over the top rope. Omos splashes Rey in a corner and then does the Kevin Nash framing. Rey fires up with a bunch of rights, but Omos shakes that off and slaps on a bearhug. Rey bites Omos’s ear, but Omos shakes that off and drops a massive elbow on Rey that gets two.

Omos steps on Rey again and fires him into a top turnbuckle Bret Hart-style. Omos yanks Rey back into the bear hug so Rey goes to Omos’s eyes in response. Rey hits a low dropkick and tries a few lariats. Omos gets tied in the ropes and Rey blasts him with low kicks. Roldan leaps up on to the apron and Dom yanks Rey out to the floor. Dom grabs a chair and EGA flies over to smash Dom with a cross-body over the American announce table. Rey picks up the chair, Omos drops the ref with a right. Rey nails Omos with a chair shot and comes off the top rope with a rana. Rey hits a couple of 619’s on Omos’s mid-section and legs and finally gets him draped over the second rope for a real 619. Rey ascends and nails Omos with a senton splash. Rey hits a frog splash and gets two. EGA and Dom continue battling on the floor and Dom whales on EGA with a chair. Dom crushes EGA’s throat with the top of the chair and Rey goes out to the apron. Rey runs into a big boot from Omos and Omos ends things with a massive chokeslam.

They really went all out here to make it seem like Rey had a chance against overwhelming odds, and I thought this worked very well for what it was. Omos works like a giant should work, he’s not trying topes or whatever, he just uses his body and incredible size to his advantage and I like when guys understand what they are supposed to be. Rey was game here and can still go pretty well for someone at his age and with his bump card. No major issues here and the spectacle was fun. The post-match, however…. 3.5*

Winner – Omos (Chokeslam) – Omos is reinstated to AAA

Omos continues the assault post-match and with EGA down, there’s no one to help. Omos goes to leave as Rey is attended to in the ring. Dom smashes EGA once more with the chair and it appears El Ojo will be leaving as Rey is placed onto a backboard. Omos returns back to ringside and dumps over the gurney that Rey is about to be placed on. Omos grabs the neckbrace that was placed on Rey and tosses it away before clearing the Spanish announce table. Omos yanks up the backboard with Rey attached and chokeslams him through the table on the backboard. Even Dom appears to be scared of the damage that was just inflicted. Omos looms over Rey as the credits roll and we’re out.

A solid Night One in the books and plenty of things to kick around in comments. Rey took an almighty ass-kicking at the end of the main event so we’ll see what progresses from that. Roxanne Perez winning was a bit of a surprise but I expect that to play into the finish of the Reina de Reinas title match on Sunday. I enjoyed the Trios title match and the resultant shenanigans from El Carnicero making his presence felt. A solid night of lucha, and we’ll see you all on Sunday for Night Two!
