WWE Evolve August 19th 2026

By Phrederic on 19 August 2026

Welcome back to a show nobody cares about in Evolve as we have Marcus Mathers taking on Cutler James, The X-Factor of the Mog Squad, CJ Valor, taking on “Hardway” Sam Holloway, and Nikkita Lyons defending her Evolve Women’s Championship against Thea Hail. But first, catch up on what’s been going on with the greater WWE cinematic universe!

Main Event – Impact – SmackDown – AAA – Raw – NXT

We’re walking and talking with Thea Hail and a beverage as D.A.D. (ugh) lets us know that Nikkita is in touch with the cosmos and the spirits should let her know that Thea’s already tapped her out once and isn’t to be underestimated. Thea says that Nikkita can bring all her goons and it doesn’t matter, cause she’s the next Evolve women’s champion, HAIL YEAH!

POSING! FLIPPING! SCOWLING! SMOKE! TEST TUBES! It’s Evolve!

CJ Valor w/ Mog Squad vs. Sam Holloway

Background:

So the Mog Squad cleared out ID 1.0 in an elimination match recently, but Holloway had ‘injured ribs’ and this is a way for Sam to get some payback. Sam is a big higy-flying kinda implied rural serial killer dude who is intense but a face, while CJ is a tiny body guy who is the sorta default punching bag for the Squad.

The Match: CJ ambushes Sam to start and pounds away in the corner. Sam shrugs him off and takes off his entrance jacket and the bell rings and CJ continues to power away but Sam reverses a whip and shoulders the much smaller CJ down and does his own pounding in the corner and then a Sam leapfrog sets up an over the ropes plancha on the rest of the Squad, and then boots down Max Abrams as Dorian Van Dux in the VIP section cheers him on…but that distraction lets CJ take Sam down outside and we go to break. Back in and a diving shoulder drops Sam and a corner clothesline, but CJ hurt his arm and asks the ref to check it…and it’s just him flexing as Santi Rivera hammers Sam outside with that distraction. Corner boot choke and the ref forces a break as Sam fires back but a knee to the ribs sets up a spinebuster for 2 as Sam sells his hurt ribs. CJ works the ribs over with…a chinlock (?!) uhhh in a William Regal voice, the chinlock along with the hurt ribs stops Holloway from taking deep breaths. Yeah, that’s it. Sam finally fires up and gets to his feet but Valor gets a body shot and then poses…but Sam gets a short-range lariat corner avalanche, double-arm suplex and then a flying boot turns CJ inside out. THE GOOZLE but CJ fights out and gets a standing powerbomb and then Chaos Theory gets 2.9. CJ talks trash and then tries to pull Sam up who is out of it, Valor gets Holloway up for a fireman’s but Sam reverses into a powerslam position but the Mog Squad yank Valor out of it. Sam clears the apron of the Squad and a sit-out chokeslam gets 3.

**

I appreciate that the Squad cheat, and that arm flex distraction was nice, but overall CJ just isn’t a very compelling wrestler. Sam tried okay selling the ribs and had a fine comeback, but it’s a bit silly watching the very tiny CJ Valor overpower the gigantic Sam Holloway.

Post match Dorian shows respect to Sam.

Now a retrospective on Harlem Lewis’s title win and subsequent reign. Harlem talks about how his life has changed, now his buddies are messaging him with congratulations. How when he showed his little brother that belt, and the pride he saw and how emotional he got. How people he thought he was cool with are now beefing with him. Competition or jealousy, it doesn’t matter, this title is all he cares about, and the Harlem Lewis Violence World Tour will continue. Harlem rises with the pressure and he’s going to have the title for a long time.

So Harlem kinda seesaws between “I am a vicious guy who doesn’t care about anybody” and “I sacrificed everything for my family and I only love them.” And it’s a bit distracting and sorta inconsistent.

Cutler James vs. Marcus Mathers

Background: So Cutler is a big, brawny Duke wrestler who is in DarkState and is now in Evolve racking up wins as a sorta jacked up wrestling machine. Marcus is an ID guy and is a sorta undersized, scrappy, scrawny highflyer. Marcus has had been on a bit of a losing streak recently and out of sorts over it.

The Match: Lockup goes Cutler’s way as he gets Marcus in the ropes. Cutler takes Marcus down with an armbar as It’s GAL is in the VIP Section. Marcus has apparently had 800 career matches and finally uses his speed to get out of the armbar…but Cutler takes him down again. Marcus slips the armmbar and gets an enzuigiri but Cutler fires back with a double-leg for a cover. Marcus slips free with a dropkick and a corner clothesline and hammers away and then ducks a James shot and keeps mobile and aggressive but Cutler is just too strong and shoves him down, but he can’t land a spinning slam as Marcus converts to a crucifix…but can’t land the bomb and Cutler ragdolls him again. James goes for a crab but Marcus escapes…but gets caught in a giant swing anyway. Corner charge by Cutler but a pop-up turns into a headscissors to send James outside as we go to a break. Back-in and guess what, Cutler is in control again. Mathers with a back elbow to get a breather but whiffs a crossbody and then after some counters eats a pop-up uppercut. More uppercuts as commentary asks why Cutler isn’t going for a cover, and then James gets a short-arm clothesline for 2. A second gets 2.5. Marcus with a bug-eyed sell and then Cutler gets a rope-choke, a rebound off the ropes and a 12-6 elbow. Marcus fights back out of a whip but a pump kick gets 2. Marcus tries to flurry again but a flying move is turned into a Cutler backbreaker and then a standing headcrank wears the indie guy down. Corner charge but Marcus gets a boot up and then breaks free with a reverse crossbody, some brawling, a flying clothesline and then a diving stunner before a thrust kick sets up a moonsault for 2.7 as Cutler powders. Flip dive by Marcus, heel kick! Mathers goes up…and flies into a spinning sideslam backbreaker and then Dark Matter (spinning crucifix toss) gets 3.

*½

This match did NOT need to go through a break. Marcus just isn’t that exciting, though his mechanics are okay, and boy Cutler is…plodding. I’m okay building him as this monster but he just doesn’t emote or express anything and it’s very…very…very dull. Whatever.

Post-match It’s GAL offers to pass along his winning ways to Marcus who brushes him off. Yeowch.

Adriana Rizzo interviews Cutler post-match and says since James is undefeated, is he eying the Evolve title? Cutler is nice for once and thanks Rizzo for the question as he wants to avoid sleeping on the couch and says he’s had a blast in Evolve. He dominates NXT on Tuesdays, but on Wednesday it’s the Cutler James show and he’s chasing gold.

That was a very bland promo, but good chemistry between him and Riz.

Now we got PJ Vasa backstage who responds to Laynie Luck saying she feels like a stepping stone. PJ reminds Laynie that’s exactly what she is, and to stop whining and COME GETCHO ISSUE. PJ Vasa is gonna win and go after Kita.

Harley Riggins next and he says that he’s never been on himself. In football it was 11 vs. 11. Now it’s just him, and he tried to make it as a team. With Jax, with Kam, and he tried. But the Big Rig is best as a solo act, he lead the country in tackles and his team ended up 6-7. Harley doesn’t need anybody holding him back, he’s never let himself down, and he’s his own biggest hero. He’s after the gold and he’s the Big Rig.

Next week we get the return of Aaron Rourke.

Now some footage of Viktor Zanov and Shido Ash demolishing goobers. They think the same, they train the same, they’re bigger, better, and badder than everybody. Everybody is scared and they should be.

That’s three promos for BIG LOUD MEAN HEELS in a row, and that’s fine with me.

Now we have Kale Dixon (with Alix Brooks) complaining to Timothy Thatcher about losing last week. It was a setup, they’re used to jealousy due to their looks and ability and aura but It’s GAL was a betrayal of promises. Thatcher says promises don’t mean JACK and it’s all about hard work, so next week it’s Chaz “Starboy” Hall vs. Kale Dixon. Now for more THE FOREMAN updates, and we’re going to get Brooks Jensen vs. Elijah Holyfield in a lumberjack match jack! And then Zena Sterling interrupts and says since she did so well in that eight-woman tag she deserves another singles match, so we’re going to get Zena vs. Layla Diggs next week! Back to work!

Nikkita Lyons (c) w/ Sloane Jacobs vs. Thea Hail – Evolve Women’s Championship

Background: A two-show feud as Nikkita is a solo top heel in Evolve and a heel goon on NXT, but Thea is feuding with both of them. Lyons in Evolve is a kickboxing powerhouse evil hippie influence who is “connected to the cosmic” while in NXT she’s part of Nattie’s faux-shooter stable. Thea is still Thea, she’s now DAD (Devious And Determined) and is doing her caffeine-addicted tiny Ultimate Warrior ripoff babyface who is always jacked up and excited and energetic. She tapped up Kita in a tag match and this is the singles payoff to that. Thea is much smaller but feisty and technical while Nikkita is big and hits hard.

The Match: Sloane gives an increasingly ridiculous entrance spiel for Nikkita and we have a full thing and apparently the ring announcer is a guy named Ryan Katz who is in an all-blue Adidas tracksuit/beret combo and he looks ABSURD. Gianna Capri and Veronica Haven are in the VIP Section and they’ve been stooges for Nikkita in the past. Thea immediately goes for the Kimura but Nikkita gets the ropes and fires back with a punch and then beats Hail in the corner before a whip and a corner attack across the ring. Lyons talks junk but runs into a Thesz press before Lyons goes for her own ground and pound. Thea gets an armbar DDT for a cover and then works the arm with some twists and butt-drops and agility, but a brainbuster is turned into a spinning elbow by Nikkita who drops the smaller challenger. Corner choke by Lyons who tells the referee she knows how to count and then gets a rope choke before covering for 2. Thea back to the arm with some wrenches and jerks but is whipped into the corner and collapses. Another whip sets up a flying headscissors and a dropkick by Hail but her float-over evasion is yanked down and Hail is tossed over the ropes and WE GO TO A BREAK! Back and we have Nikkita tossing Thea back in for some ground and pound and then the split-legdrop for a cover and Hail is out of sorts. More rope choking from Lyons for another cover and Gianna and Veronica think that was 3. Samoan Drop by Nikkita for 2.5 and then Nikkita cranks in a camel clutch but Hail reverses to an inside cradle, then a schoolgirl…but a lariat cuts her off and Nikkita gets 2. Lyons stomps away and a standing splash gets 2 before another camel clutch. Hail breaks free and gets a few kicks but her Kimura is tossed off…but Lyons misses the legdrop and Thea fires back, Nikkita tries to recover but runs her shoulder into the post and is all out of sorts and the champ is wobbling around. Thea goes for a corner move that commentator Peter Rosenberg describes as DILF-mode and I’m just…what are you doing Peter? Anyway a cazadora sequence ends up with Thea driving Nikkita into the corner and following with an exploder and a “shining wizard” (more like a low dropkick) gets 2. Hail tries the kimura again, and again as Lyons counters with a backbreaker and then a spinning roundhouse gets 2.8. Nikkita peppers Thea with strikes and sets her up on the top rope for a superplex but both are down…and Gianna Capri and Veronica Haven both make their way to ringside. Anya Rune shows up to stop the heels with a fireball…that the heels no-sell. Anya turns around in disgust and shame and meanwhile Wren Sinclair (on Wrensday of all days) and Skyar Ray show up to wipe out Capri and Haven, and then when Rune turns around she sees her foes downed and she jumps in celebration. Okay, that goofy spot got me. Meanwhile back to the actual match and Thea gets Nikkita in another Kimura and Lyons taps out…but the ref is distracted, Soane rakes Thea’s eyes to break the hold and Nikkita gets up for a Throat Chakra (spinning hook kick) for 3.

***

Okay, was this match ludicrously overbooked? Why yes! Was this match really psychologically sound? Also yes! Thea basically only has one move she can conceivably use to beat Lyons and kept trying everything she did to spam the move and weaken Lyons to set it up. Now to be a truly great match, Nikkita would have no-sold all the armwork and won with the tiger driver, but it is developmental afterall. Lyons playing into her bully physical heel nature and just beating the smaller Hail down with size was quality stuff, going for covers after basic heel cheating was good, and I had no problems with the goofy finish. Lots of angles are interacting and if this wasn’t Evolve I would expect WAAAAAH GAMES!

Post-match as Nikkita Lyons celebrates with Sloane Jacobs and Lyons sells her shoulder, Sloane notices the Evolve logos on the screens shift into Wendy Choo’s face. Jacobs looks scared as Nikkita doesn’t notice. DUN DUN DUNNN!

Well I’d say this show overperformed my expectations with a good main-event and some quality promos (even if they could have been better mixed in the show) but a supremely watchable show, all things considered. Thanks for watching, thanks for reading, thanks for caring, and keep on Evolving my Evolvemaniacs.
