WWE Main Event – 8.27.26

Thursday night! That means it is time for the A-show, WWE Main Event!

If you’re a regular Main Event viewer, you might remember last week’s oops of an episode. WWE advertised three matches and then accidentally didn’t include two of them in the broadcast. This week, we get the other two matches! Probably. After last week, no promises. It sounds like some matches were taped before this week’s Raw and SmackDown double header, so perhaps we’ll see those next week.

THIS is the KeyBank Arena in Buffalo, New York, home to the Buffalo Sabres, the NHL Draft, Fully Loaded 1999, and episodes of Raw, Nitro, SmackDown, ECW, Dynamite, and Rampage. Blake Howard and Vic Joseph are on commentary while the great Alicia Taylor is on the ring mic.

Wendy Choo vs Maxxine Dupri (with WWE World Tag Team Champion Austin Theory)

We haven’t seen Maxxine in the ring since the June 29th Raw. She last appeared on Main Event a few weeks before that, losing in five minutes to Roxanne Perez on the June 11th episode. This is her seventh match on Main Event in 2026, racking up a 2-4 record with wins over Nikkita Lyons and the queen of Main Event Ivy Nile. Wendy was last here on the July 23rd episode, taking a loss to – you guessed it – Ivy Nile. Since he’s here, Theory last competed on this show back in June 2025, losing to El Grande Americano. Why is he here? Haven’t I been punished enough on Raw? Ah well.

As you’d expect, Maxxine has adopted the Vision theme music and trons. Commentary questions how Theory is upright after what happened to him Monday on Raw, so at least we know commentary is fresh. Maxxine leads early before Wendy powers out and into an armdrag and a rollup for a two. Wendy gets on a roll with a running dropkick before Maxxine powders out and signals for a time out. That’s not a thing that happens, so Wendy chases her around and then runs into Theory on the outside. Maxxine takes advantage of the distraction, kneeing Choo upon her return to the ring. Dupri spends some time outside in her man’s arms before rolling back in to clothesline Choo for a two count.

Wendy tries to fight out with some strikes, clotheslining Maxxine down repeatedly. She smacks Maxxine down with a short-arm clothesline and gets the crowd behind her, kicking her in the corner and dropping her with a neckbreaker. Choo tries to hook the Dirt Nap, Dupri counters out. Theory hops on the apron to distract the former Sleepy Psycho, giving Dupri a chance to connect with Maxxed Out and get the pin.

Maxxine Dupri pins Wendy Choo. Nothing wrong with this. Maxxine continues to improve but I need Wendy on the big shows. She has some presence and can keep up with the others.

Akira Tozawa vs Jasper Troy

Alpha Academy’s Tozawa is making his eighth appearance on Main Event this year, last teaming with Otis to defeat BirthRight on May 28th. He is so far 0-3 in Main Event singles matches in 2026, taking losses to El Grande Americano, JD McDonagh and Grayson Waller. Jasper is making his Main Event debut. He made his wrestling debut in May 2023 for NXT and has worked around NXT, LFG and Evolve ever since.

This is my first time seeing Jasper in action. Jasper starts things off as the much larger monster, Tozawa trying to speed around him unsuccessfully. Commentary shares their worry for Akira as he leaps into Jasper’s arms, Jasper lifting him up but Tozawa punching out of it before running right into Jasper’s arms. The fans chant for Tozawa as Jasper keeps working over Akira, running him into the opposite corner at a very fast, very hard speed.

Troy headbutts Tozawa to the mat and whips him into the corner. Jasper easily scoops Tozawa up into a standing suplex, holding him in the air for a good twenty seconds before dropping him. Jasper splashes Tozawa with three consecutive big splashes, Tozawa somehow kicking out of the pinfall. Tozawa leaps onto him from the corner and gets caught again, Jasper squeezing him with a bearhug but Tozawa able to DDT out. Tozawa rips the shirt and lights up Troy with the Yes Kicks, superkicking Jasper in the head. Tozawa runs into a powerbomb but rolls it into a rana, covering Jasper for the quick pin.

Akira Tozawa pins Jasper Troy. I liked this a lot. It made Jasper look like a monster, mostly just destroying Tozawa before he lost to a few sudden moves to the more experienced competitor. This was fun to watch.

And that’s our show. It was a good 2/3rds of a Main Event! I’d recommend giving this one the twenty or so minutes it runs, both matches were enjoyable. Wendy and Jasper both looked really good here.
