AAA – 08.22.26

Last week – AAA.

AAA comes to Youtube LIVE tonight from Coliseo Centenario in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. The American announcing team consists of Corey Graves on match calls, and AAA GM Rey Mysterio and John Bradshaw Layfield handling match analysis. There are SO many big AAA events coming up with some huge stakes, so let’s watch some lucha!

Then, Now, Forever…TOGETHER

Here’s a look at last week’s Penta promo regarding the ongoing tournament to crown a contender to face WWE Men’s World Champion Roman Reigns at the big upcoming Raw in Mexico City. The promo was interrupted by Los Perros del Mal whose leader, Daga, offered Penta an opportunity to return to the ranks of Los Perros, claiming he’d need a family of his own to be able to overcome the Tribal Chief. Penta wanted time to think about it, and Daga suggested later that it wasn’t actually a request and he will now face Bronco Nima in a match and should Penta lose, he is forced back into Los Perros.

Galeno vs Omos

Omos is flanked by Dorian Roldan when he emerges. Galeno ducks a punch and fires some forearms to start. Galeno tries to truck Omos and gets unceremoniously tossed to the side. Omos pounds away in a corner before heaving Galeno halfway across the ring. Omos slams Galeno a couple of times and soaks in the boos raining down. Galeno fires up with a kick but walks into a goozle from Omos. Galeno smashes Omos with a low dropkick and yanks him into a DDT. Galeno ascends for a frog splash that gets one.

Galeno drives in some forearms and runs into another goozle before an Omos chokeslam gets two. Omos misses a charge and flies out to the floor, so he yanks Galeno out and clotheslines him down. Omos clears the announce table and turns into Galeno mashing him with the top part of the ring steps. Omos absorbs a couple of shots and kicks the steps out of Galeno’s hands in response. Omos smashes Galeno with the ring steps a couple of times and Tirantes throws the match out.

This was originally meant to be a triple threat with Damian Priest, and he apparently could not make it to the Torreon tapings, so we got this as a placeholder. It was short and to the point, so I’d suspect we might get another look at this matchup somewhere down the road. 2.5*

No contest – Tirantes DQ’s both men for use of the ring steps

Post-match sees Omos destroy a couple of refs with the ring steps before mounting Omos on the destroyed announce desk. Omos goes back into the ring, retrieves the ring steps, and is about to heave them onto the helpless Galeno when Rey Mysterio sprints out to prevent further carnage. Omos yanks Mysterio up and here’s AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio out to encourage Omos. Dorian Roldan’s pleas for sanity finally succeed and Omos lets Mysterio down. Mysterio promptly suspends Omos indefinitely from AAA, so Omos blasts Mysterio with a right hand that sends him to the floor. Omos barks at Mysterio saying no one controls him and Mysterio then says he never wants to see Omos in AAA again. Roldan begs Omos to calm down, and we go to commercials.

EARLIER TODAY Rey Mysterio had a conversation with Las Toxicas where AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Flammer informed Mysterio that she would be taking TripleMania off due to a lack of opponents. Mysterio suggests that he’s going to run a gauntlet match at Ola de Calor that will determine Flammer’s TripleMania challenger. Flammer seems okay with that and exits as Mysterio asks AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion La Hiedra to stay behind for a minute.

AAA Tag Team Championship Number One Contender’s Match: Cruz del Toro and Joaquin Wilde vs Money Machine (Garra de Oro and Colmillo del Plata) vs Los Psycho Circus (Dave the Clown and Murder Clown) vs Rayo and Bravo Americano

Graves: “Los Americanos looking to bring a bit of culture to the proceedings.” JBL: “Are you saying Murder Clown doesn’t bring culture?”

Bravo and del Toro start and there’s a stalemate after some acrobatics. del Toro uses some Wilde interference to smash Bravo around and mash him with a double suplex as Wilde covers for two. Bravo fires up with some chops and waffles Wilde with a lariat. Bravo sends Wilde into a Rayo right hand before Rayo flies in with a senton on the mounted Wilde. Colmillo grabs a blind tag as Bravo continues whomping on Wilde. Garra gets an immediate tag and they go to work on Bravo. They hit a form of Total Elimination on Bravo and Garra covers for two.

Garra backs Bravo into Los Psycho Circus corner and Dave makes a tag. Dave and Murder take turns crushing Garra and Dave waffles Garra with a leg lariat. Murder tries to take on Rayo and Bravo and succeeds in not only smashing them but also Money Machine. There’s an attempt to dump Murder to the floor. Bravo ends up in the ring with Garra and he goes to work with some rights and lefts. Colmillo uses his necktie to break Bravo away and Money Machine run wild for a bit before Garra covers Bravo for two. Bravo fights his way out of Money Machine’s corner but they overwhelm him with some fists. Bravo manages to hit a double suplex on Money Machine before dumping a charging Wilde. Rayo gets the tag and crushes Money Machine before landing on the LWO guys with a moonsault. Rayo hits a Liger Bomb on Garra for two.

Bravo tags in as does Dave, and Dave immediately runs wild on everyone. Dave takes out Los Americanos and Murder sends Dave to the floor to crush Money Machine and the LWO. Murder yanks up Rayo and Bravo onto his shoulders and hits a double Samoan drop. Murder ascends and hits a cross-body to the floor on a bunch of guys. (I would not want to be on the receiving end of that particular move, Murder is HUGE). Murder misses a splash attempt and Bravo manages to hoist him onto his shoulders for an airplane spin. Rayo tags in and ascends for a diving headbutt but Wilde breaks up the cover at two.

del Toro tags in and smashes Rayo with a cartwheel enziguri. del Toro takes out Money Machine with a torneo to the floor and then lands a Phoenix splash on Rayo for two as Bravo breaks it up at the last second. del Toro and Wilde sense an opportunity but Rayo slips out of it and the LWO crash together. Wilde gets dumped to the floor landing on everyone else and Los Americanos team up on a Side Russian-Leaping Neckbreaker on del Toro that finishes things.

As you might be able to imagine, a recap does not do this match justice in terms of just how much action there was. If you like some chaos tags, this is right up your alley, plus two enormous guys in clown masks wrecking shop when they entered. The Americanos are the safest and most recognizable choice for this spot against another WWE-centric team in the War Raiders, and I’m actually starting to wish that at some point some of the AAA-centric folks would get more opportunities. That being said, this was pretty damn fun and I enjoyed it. 3.25*

Winners – Los Americanos (Double team finisher on del Toro)

The monster that’s been plaguing Los Psycho Circus finally has a name and it’s EL CARNICERO (“The Butcher”). He debuts next week!

Graves runs down the Ola de Calor card, and here’s Rey Mysterio to announce that not only is Omos suspended, he’s also banned from every building that AAA will be running while suspended. Galeno is at the hospital and initial reports indicate that he is not cleared, so Mysterio then announces that the last spot in the AAA Latin American Championship match will be taken by Damian Priest. The title match will take place at Ola de Calor!

Bronco Nima vs Penta

Nima attacks Penta during his entrance and tosses him around and over the ring steps. Nima rams Penta into the announce desk and tosses him in. The bell rings and Tirantes is apparently, SHOCKINGLY, okay with Nima’s actions. Nima drops Penta over the top rope and wastes him with a lariat that gets two. Nima ties Penta’s mask to the ropes and puts the boots to him. Nima pounds away with rights before untying him. Nima eats a kick and and a sling blade drives him down. Penta drops Nima in a corner and blasts him with a wrecking ball drop kick. Nima tries to escape and Penta waffles him with a tope con hilo. Penta ascends but runs into a Nima right. Nima drops Penta with a gutbuster and covers for two.

Nima yanks Penta up and after some Penta slaps Nima pounds him down with a high boot. Nima hits a shoulder-breaker and covers for two. Penta recovers with a backstabber that gets two. Penta wants the Destroyer but Nima prevents it long enough to end up in a Penta DDT that gets two. Penta hits a reverse thrust and repeats it twice. Penta calls for the Destroyer but Nima prevents it again. Penta slips down and rolls up Nima for three.

You know when you’ve been watching wrestling long enough to know when something is going to go down? Recall last week’s show when Penta referred to Nima as “dead weight” within Los Perros and now this result occurs. Penta clearly isn’t working by the hour here presumably to keep him healthy for WWE, but this was really quick for what I expected to be kind of a different type of thing. 2.75*

Post-match sees a frustrated Nima pound the canvas as the rest of Los Perros arrive. Penta chats with Daga who is holding a chair. Daga looks back at Nima who’s being consoled by Angel Garza. Garza tells Nima that God forgives but Los Perros don’t, and Daga waffles Nima in the back with the chair. Los Garza descend for an ass-whomping as a stunned Penta looks on. The beating goes on for a bit and Karmen Petrovic ends it with her rolling kick. Nima is tossed to the floor and Daga invites Penta back into the ring. Penta re-enters and Daga offers him a shirt. Penta checks the pulse of the crowd, and pushes the shirt into Daga’s chest. Once again, Los Perros attack and overwhelm Penta immediately with numbers. Here’s AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix in to try to assist, but he’s immediately overwhelmed as well. This brings out Dragon Lee and he helps dispose of Los Perros before celebrating with Penta and Fenix. Penta gets a mic and challenges Los Perros to a six man tag at Ola de Calor!

Business is about to pick up at Ola de Calor, friends. Next Sunday is going to be quite a day in the wrestling world. I wish that Priest had been able to make it to Torreon for the triple threat but things happen. I think I use the word “fun” too much in these end-of-show paragraphs but that’s what this show is! We’ll have a big weekend of action next week and I’ll be typing a LOT on Sunday, for sure.

Have a great week. Thanks for reading.
