WWE Main Event Review – 7.09.26
By Kat Bourne on 9 July 2026
Thursday night is here again and so is WWE Main Event. It’s the most slept-on WWE show, but it’s an easy half hour of just matches.
The last week: Main Event / SmackDown / Lucha Libre AAA / Raw / NXT / Evolve
Our broadcast team is Blake Howard and, this week, Byron Saxton. Alicia Taylor is on the ring announcements. We’re coming from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
Lizzy Rain vs Ivy Nile
This is the Main Event debut for Lizzy and her first main roster WWE match. Something feels very right about a rocker girl like Alicia introducing Lizzy. Ivy is a veteran of Main Event with eight Main Event matches in 2026 prior to tonight. She has a 3-5 win-loss record, so I imagine she’s hoping to continue to turn things around. She took the L against Lyra Valkyria on the June 4th episode.
Ivy takes advantage of the newcomer by yanking her off the top rope, Lizzy’s head bouncing off the turnbuckle. Ivy German suplexes Lizzy with a bridge pin for a two count and then works a shoulder lock on her as the fans wake up and try to rally Lizzy. Ivy suplexes Lizzy again, Lizzy again kicking out at two. Ivy mocks Rain and Lizzy clotheslines her way out of trouble. Lizzy hits a nice pumphandle slam on Ivy and charges her in the corner. Ivy nails Rain with a big kick and dumps her with a solid slam, getting the pin.
Ivy Nile pins Lizzy Rain. Lizzy looked good here and reps will help her look even better. I’m not shocked Ivy won this one.
Je’Von Evans vs Grayson Waller
I asked where Je’Von was during Raw and here’s my answer. Je’Von has three prior Main Event matches in 2026 and has won all three, most recently defeating Harlem Lewis in May. Waller has practically disappeared from television since his buddies in the New Day were released though he has stayed active on NXT live events. He has lost four of his five Main Event matches in 2026, the last time in April to the Original El Grande Americano.
Je’Von is very popular with this crowd and Waller hated as he attacks before the bell. Je’Von bounces off the ropes with a rana and Grayson powders out by the announce table. You know this doesn’t stop Je’Von, who hits a tope on him despite this being Main Event and not needing to do all that here. Waller sweeps the leg and kicks Je’Von back to the outside and clotheslines Je’Von into the barricade. He bounces the bouncy one off the announce table and tries for the Rolling Thunder but turns it into a Flatliner instead.
Waller walks the second rope and tries to drop an elbow, Evans rolling out of the way. Waller hits a leaping knee and knocks Evans back outside. Evans superkicks Waller and takes flight, nailing Waller and then rolling him back in. Evans springboards with a clothesline into Waller for a two and Waller connects with a forearm before diving right into a boot. The Young OG hoists Waller up on his shoulders and chunks him into the turnbuckle and then smashes him with a running kick. The pin is easy from there.
Je’Von Evans pins Grayson Waller. Again not a shocking result, but this was a really entertaining match. I will always tell you Waller is underrated and that I think he is the half of the Waller/Theory team that should be doing big things. If nothing else, he’d probably be fun in the Ethan Page and Rusev dynamic. He’s a great annoying heel and he works well with Je’Von. Je’Von is great as always. I’m a bit surprised there was no OG Cutter, but I also like that he could win without it.
Another easy episode, over almost exactly twenty minutes after it started. When you’re used to Netflix dragging you along for two and a half hours of segments and commercials, Main Event is always a relief. This is another easy one to recommend as Evans/Waller was great and its a good look at Lizzy if you haven’t seen her in action on NXT.
