Happy 4th of July! Let’s celebrate by reading: Great American Bash | Raw | NXT | Evolve | Impact | Smackdown | Main Event | NXT 2.0
AAA comes to Youtube this evening from the Foro GNP Seguro in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The American announce team for tonight’s show consists of Corey Graves, John Bradshaw Layfield, and AAA GM Rey Mysterio. There are three big matches on the card tonight and we’ll have the long-rumored appearance of a former WWE champion. Let’s watch some lucha!
Then, Now, Forever….TOGETHER
Here’s AAA GM Rey Mysterio out to a huge pop. Mysterio mentions that the vision the company now has is bigger than ever and he wants the biggest stars in the world to wrestle there. Mysterio then introduces WWE Men’s Tag Team Champion Damian Priest who enters to a large eruption of noise. Priest introduces himself and says while he’s accomplished a lot of things he’s got new ground to break in AAA. Priest promises that anyone with a title is going to get to know him very well. Priest asks everyone to rise and says EL CAMPEON has arrived in AAA.
Arrivals include: Mr. Iguana and his tag partner La Parka, and Las Toxicas as Flammer will be taking on Lady Shani tonight!
Lady Shani vs AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Lady Flammer
This is non-title and Flammer comes to the ring alone to start. Shani hits two armdrags to start and Flammer is pissed. There’s some rope running and Shani boots Flammer in the head. Shani snaps off a rana and a helicopter neckbreaker. Shani eats a right boot from Flammer who goes right to ground and pound. Flammer boots Shani down and stomps away. Flammer starts going for Shani’s mask and then covers her for two. Flammer hits a spinebuster and then smashes Shani with a running lariat. Flammer bullies Shani along the ropes and then stomps away in a corner. Flammer hits a running splash and then stomps away again. Flammer blasts Shani with a kick to the back and then grabs a cover for two.
Shani fires up but Flammer launches her into a corner and pounds away. Shani fires up with a lariat and an armdrag takedown. Shani hits a running boot and then starts blasting Flammer with boots in a corner. Shani rolls Flammer into a body scissors and slaps on a sleeper. Shani rolls Flammer around and covers her for two. Shani reverses a sunset flip attempt and gets two. Flammer hits a double stomp and then yanks Shani up for an inverted electric chair that gets two. Flammer goes out to retrieve her title belt but is prevented from using it by La Catalina. Shani uses the distraction to smash Flammer with a backstabber. Shani hits an Iconoclasm and covers Flammer for three!
That’s a relatively massive upset in terms of the women’s division in AAA. Shani has been gone for awhile and returning to pin the champion is a huge deal. The match itself was a bit low-key and didn’t have a lot of heat from the crowd, but they perked up when Catalina arrived and the finish came just after. 2.5*
Winner – Lady Shani (Iconoclasm)
Post-match sees Shani eyeing up Catalina who is holding Flammer’s title belt while Flammer seethes in a corner.
Here’s a look back at Pagano being removed and taken to hospital after the attack on last week’s show. Psycho Clown vows to find out who attacked him while asking for forgiveness.
Here’s a look at El Grande Americano being attacked by Los Perros Del Mal. Americano mentions not expecting to see them and will be waiting to see them next week. Americano vows to have help and promises he does not forgive, either.
Dinamico and Drago vs Money Machine (Colmillo de Plata and Garra de Oro) vs La Parka and AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion Mr. Iguana
Mr. Iguana is accompanied by La Yesca as always. Iguana starts with Colmillo who apparently wishes to purchase La Yesca. Yesca takes a second to snack on Colmillo’s arm while Iguana absconds with the money to JBL’s horror. Iguana leaps on to the top rope and plants Colmillo with an IGUANA-RANA before nailing him with a crucifix driver. Drago grabs a tag from Iguana and does some gymnastics to a pop. Garra grabs a tag when they get close enough to him and Drago gets smashed down by a Money Machine double team. Drago fires up with some quick strikes and tags in Dinamico. Dinamico blasts Colmillo off the apron with a dropkick and then avoids Garra for a while before tagging in Drago. Drago snaps off a running Shooting Star Press and La Parka grabs a tag off of Garra’s back. Dinamico tags in as well to frog splash a prone Garra before immediately getting double stomped by La Parka.
La Parka launches Dinamico into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and then clobbers him with a discus lariat. La Parka hits a gnarly looking German before both Garra and Colmillo charge back in. Money Machine attack La Parka and send him into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker of their own before Garra crushes La Parka with a springboard splash. Iguana draws the ire of Money Machine who end up getting taken out by Drago and Dinamico. Drago hits a Shooting Star Press from a top turnbuckle to the floor on Money Machine and Iguana sends Dinamico to the apron with a rana. La Parka comes flying in with a springboard cartwheel driver that sends a baffled Dinamico to the floor. Drago ascends for a splash and covers Iguana for two. Money Machine prevent another Drago dive and then they tie up La Parka for a double-team dropkick. Dinamico dumps Colmillo and then plants Garra with a big knee. Dinamico hits a huge cross-body on Money Machine.
La Parka gets spiked by a Drago DDT. Drago ascends but La Parka catches him with a cutter and then yanks him up for the Bonebreaker. La Parka covers and gets three.
This got the crowd going again and had a lot of high spots, as expected. La Parka and Iguana remain wildly over with the crowd but I’m not sure that they’re moving them towards the War Raiders just yet. I guess we’ll see. If you like lucha chaos tags, this was your jam. 3*
Winners – La Parka/Mr. Iguana (Bonebreaker on Drago)
Post-match sees some kids come in to dance with La Parka to the delight of the crowd. Someone should suggest that to GUNTHER as a post-match activity.
Here’s some highlights of Verano de Escandalo 2009 with Dr. Wagner Jr. retaining his Mega Championship in a six-sided cage match with Cibernetico and El Mesias. We’re three weeks away from this year’s event!
Rey Mysterio is chatting with the press and puts over the arrival of Damian Priest. Mysterio brushes off a question about the impending showdown between Los Perros and El Grande Americano and talks up next week’s show in San Luis Potosi.
Abismo Negro vs El Fiscal
They start fighting immediately and Fiscal hits a lungblower and an elbow drop for two. Fiscal pounds away and yanks Abismo up, but Abismo fights out and pulls Fiscal into an overhead suplex that gets two. Abismo pounds away and then wants a press slam, but Fiscal escapes to push Abismo to the floor. Fiscal hits a tope suicida and puts the boots to Abismo. Abismo runs Fiscal into a ring post and Abismo pounds away along the barricade. Abismo hits a body slam but misses a elbow drop dive. Fiscal puts the boots to Abismo and rolls him back in. Fiscal ascends and misses a dive. Abismo misses a charge and they crash together in simultaneous lariat attempts.
Here’s Karmen Petrovic heading down the ramp and Los Perros del Mal attack en masse. They destroy both Abismo and Fiscal before posing over a fallen Fiscal. Graves says AAA has a lot of trouble on their hands and the show ends.
The last match ended as a no contest but was probably about 2.5* or so when Los Perros attacked – it needed more time to cook. Overall this felt like a place-holder show at the end of a long taping, but still had some good stuff. There was some more movement in the women’s division with Lady Shani now being firmly in the title picture, and presumably La Parka and Mr. Iguana would be in line for some higher-profile tag matches. It’s nice to see a show where women’s wrestling and men’s tag wrestling can get along, you know?
Have a good Sunday, and a good week. Thanks for reading and commenting.
