WCW’s Lombardi
By Scott Keith on 6 October 2024
Greetings,
Your Power Hour review got me thinking: who from NWA/WCW would be the closest analogue to Steve Lombardi/Brooklyn Brawler? By that, I mean someone who has almost always been pretty much “a hand” who could be relied on to be a name jobber on call, but had very few angles and seemed to be around forever. (not talking about the previous generation of Luis Rivera, Tony Garea, etc., who at least had some success and/or championships).
My vote is for Buddy Lee Parker. I hadn't realized he was with the company since 1989 – and lasted practically until the end! Plus he had behind the scenes roles as well, much like Lombardi. Other nominees?
Thanks
Buddy is a good callout. Crockett had some great jobbers that didn't carry over much to the WCW era, but were always solid in the ring, such as George South, Italian Stallion, Tommy Angel, and a few others. I'd say the Stallion is the closest analog to the Brawler in terms of positioning.
