Lex Luger’s 1993 Push

Why did they not put the Title on Lex Luger at SummerSlam 1993 after the whole summer pushing him via "The Lex Express"? Did something happen behind the scenes that lead to Vince changing plans, or was that never the plan to begin with? I apologize if you addressed this before, but I’ve always been curious about this. Thanks.

It had kind of been the plan, but then Luger was getting over pretty well and Vince felt like Summerslam wasn’t the optimal time to cash in on the Lex Express, so they could draw even BIGGER by screwing the fans at Summerslam and having Lex chase the title all the way to Wrestlemania. And of course, it did not work out that way at ALL. By the fall, Luger had cooled off considerably and he just wasn’t the guy to be World champion any longer. Ironically, had they put the belt on him at Summerslam like they originally wanted to, he probably would have done fine with it.
