Demolition’s 1990 heel turn

By Scott Keith on 17 April 2016

Hi Scott,

I just rewatched Demolition defeating Andre & Haku at WrestleMania VI. The crowd went apeshit for Ax & Smash winning back the titles, which makes me wonder why WWE decided to turn them heel after the match.

If I recall correctly, they were already setting up a program with the Hart Foundation even before Crush was brought in. Obviously, things worked out for Bret & Anvil and Ax’s health made the decision that much easier. That being said, was there ever an argument for keeping the Demos face given their popularity and turning the Harts heel again instead?

No, the popularity for Demolition was fading fast anyway, plus the LOD was coming in and no one was gonna cheer the Demos against them. The whole point was to build a heel team to oppose the LOD and make the Harts into the babyface stars of the division, so Demolition had to turn.
