Mercedes Mone Believes There’s A “Different Energy” In AEW

Mercedes Mone has opened up on the “night and day” difference between AEW and WWE.

Before signing with AEW in 2024, Mercedes Mone spent a decade wrestling as Sasha Banks in WWE. While there, The Boss became a top star first in NXT and then on the main roster. By the time she walked out of the company in 2022, the star was a seven-time Women’s Champion, had been in the main event of WrestleMania 37 Night 1, and was an inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Bayley.

Since becoming All Elite, Mone has not only climbed her way to the top of the AEW women’s division but also currently holds eight title belts across multiple promotions worldwide.

During an appearance on Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, Mone reflected on the differences in attitude in the two companies, saying it’s “night and day.”

“For me, it’s night and day. When I am around the girls, it just feels like such a community of wanting to make this place grow. There’s a hunger, because I feel like we still feel so underground, and we want to make it like up here… all these women have so much drive and passion, and I can feel it like they fire me up.”

Mone made it clear that she isn’t disparaging WWE, but believes that AEW stars are “trying to fight for something.”

“And same with the guys, too. Just the energy with the guys, it feels so different. And I don’t want to say like, oh, WWE was bad, and people are like egos, but it just, it just feels like we’re all trying to fight for something. We’re trying to fight to make this the best. And I love people who have passion and hunger.”

Mercedes Mone is set to defend the TBS Championship at Forbidden Door in an international Four-Way Match featuring Alex Windsor and as-yet-undecided stars from CMLL and STARDOM.
