Kota Ibushi Opens Up About How Long His Recovery Could Take After Suffering Broken Leg

By Conor Renshaw on 15 October 2025

Kota Ibushi has provided a timeline for when he could potentially return to the ring following his broken femur, and the outlook is pretty bleak.

Kota Ibushi posted on Instagram a video of his leg post-surgery with a caption that reads:

“My current condition. One year to fully recover. Two years until I can step into the ring again.”

If the doctor’s prognosis of his recovery time is correct, this would mean we might not see Ibushi back in a wrestling ring until 2027, when he will be 45 years old. Ibushi suffered his injury during a match at the AEW Collision TV tapings on October 8, where he fell from the top rope to the outside of the ring during his match with Josh Alexander and was counted out due to his inability to continue the match. He was then stretchered out of the arena.

How Does Kota Ibushi Feel About This Grim Outlook On His Return Timeline?

Despite being given the bad news by his doctors, Kota Ibushi remains in high spirits and also added in his caption:

“I believe in myself more than the doctors. I absolutely don’t believe in that. I know I have amazing DNA that gives me the ability to heal!!”

So Ibushi believes that he will have the ability to recover quicker than the doctors think he will, and that he will be back in the ring in less than two years.

Ibushi has struggled with injuries in recent years, as he suffered an arm injury in 2021 during the G1 Climax finals that saw him out of action for a while. He also injured his ankle in 2024 in a match at Pro Wrestling NOAH. Wishing Kota Ibushi a full and speedy recovery!

What do you think about Ibushi’s latest injury update? Do you think he will be able to return quicker than two years? Or do you think he may never return to the ring?
