Brock Lesnar Cleared By WWE Legal Weeks Ago
By Craig Ballantyne on 4 August 2025
More details have emerged about Brock Lesnar’s shock WWE return at SummerSlam.
At SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena to regain the Undisputed WWE Championship in a Street Fight. After celebrating, Rhodes left the ring, allowing fans to applaud Cena after his final SummerSlam main event. However, things didn’t end there, as Brock Lesnar’s music hit, and ‘The Beast Incarnate’ made a beeline to Cena, delivering an F5 to close the show.
Before last night, Lesnar had not been seen since being defeated by Rhodes at the 2023 edition of SummerSlam. It has been reported that the star was set to make his return at the 2024 Royal Rumble, but those plans were stopped when Lesnar was implicated in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Lauranaitis, and WWE.
Grant amended the lawsuit in February 2025, explicitly naming Lesnar and alleging that McMahon had offered the star a sexual encounter with her during formal contract negotiations. She also claimed that McMahon ordered Grant to send sexually explicit content of herself to Lesnar, while Lesnar is said to have asked her directly for explicit videos.
The allegations led to WWE seeming to cut ties with Lesnar, and the star was not mentioned by the company for months after his Rumble return was nixed. However, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, things changed recently, and WWE’s legal team cleared Lesnar four weeks ago.
“The short version of this is that four weeks ago, WWE legal cleared him. As far as why, I don’t know. Obviously, everything relates to the Janel Grant lawsuit.
“Either they’re confident that things are going to arbitration and Lesnar’s not a factor at that point, or they’re close to a settlement and then, at that point, Lesnar’s not a factor, or somebody there just had a change of mind, and I don’t know which one of those it is.”
Brock Lesnar Has Been Part Of Active WWE Roster For Two Months
During the same episode, Bryan Alvarez claimed that Brock Lesnar has been considered part of the active roster for even longer.
“Brock has been considered part of the active roster for about two months now. They kept him hidden from everyone all day, although there were friends of his there that hadn’t been there since he left, which led to some people figuring it out.”
