Cody Rhodes Wins WWE Title & Brock Lesnar Returns To Lay Out John Cena At SummerSlam

Cody Rhodes has recaptured the Undisputed WWE Championship after defeating John Cena in the main event of night 2 of SummerSlam. Also, Brock Lesnar returned after nearly 2 years away to reignite his feud with Cena.

Cody Rhodes faced John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam Sunday after Cena turned face on last Friday’s SmackDown, having been a heel since siding with The Rock at Elimination Chamber and low-blowing Rhodes before delivering a beatdown that ended with Cena hitting Rhodes with the WWE Title.

The match went nearly 40 minutes, and Rhodes survived multiple AAs from Cena, and Cena kicked out of numerous Cross Rhodes. The finish of the match saw Cena deliver an avalanche AA, which Rhodes kicked out of, then Cena set up a table and attempted another avalanche AA, but Rhodes reversed it and hit a Cody Cutter through the table. He then saluted Cena in a show of respect before delivering a final Cross Rhodes to pick up the win.

This win begins Rhodes’ second reign as WWE Champion and ends Cena’s 105-day run with the belt.

But Cody Rhodes’ Win Wasn’t The Only Surprise Of The Night.

After Cody Rhodes left the ring and John Cena was soaking in the applause from the crowd, Brock Lesnar’s music hit and “The Beast Incarnate” made his way to the ring adorned in a leather jacket and cowboy hat, he then got into the ring and hit Cena with an F-5 and the show went off the air with Lesnar standing tall and Cena laying on the mat.

Cena and Lesnar have had a long history in WWE, having had their first singles match together way back in 2002, and when Lesnar returned in 2012, he feuded with Cena before moving onto a feud with Triple H. Lesnar faced Cena in 2014 at SummerSlam and defeated him in a dominant fashion to win the WWE Championship.
