Wrestling Observer Flashbacks 1993

Time to wrap up 1993!  And no, I’m not doing anything wacky like jumping back and forth in time or anything, we’re just moving on to 1994 and all the Hulk Hogan-ness therein.  Doing all the Unreleased stuff was super fun, though, and I’m glad everyone enjoyed it.  But back to business!

So Dave skipped a week for personal reasons, and he immediately apologizes for this being a “sub par” issue, but he just wanted to hit all the giant news stories before they went cold.  Is this gonna be like where he talks about a “slow news week” and then I’m left with a 30 page recap?

Oh hey, remember how in the last issue there was a mysterious unnamed wrestler who was part of the investigation of Vince?  Well, he’s not unnamed for long, brother.

And now, an issue that we’ve been building up to for a long, LONG time.

Or rather, that the federal government has been building up to…

Big stuff in the news this week, and the start of the biggest shift in coverage in the history of the Observer.  So you picked a great time to start reading!

“Dude, with all the problems in the world – where, oh where are the Wrestling Observer Flashbacks. Earlier this year we were on pace to hit the colossally repugnant 1995. I was waiting with baited breath. Now, my days are left unfulfilled. Help a brother out.”

I see your point, especially since I’m getting sick of hearing from groups of people on Facebook who support or don’t support kneeling or flags or what the fuck ever they’re fighting about and just won’t shut the hell up about it already.

This guy gets it.  Now, back to the relative sanity of two people fighting with a pair of safety scissors in a hotel.

And now, more importantly than any news item in this week’s Observer (and there’s some BIG ones!), it’s finally time for the meme that I have been waiting for MONTHS to work in somewhere.

Hey, we’re back.  I literally had a week’s worth of material finished and ready to post by last Wednesday with the Mae Young Classic rants and then after setting it all to post and watching the hits roll in, realized on Sunday night at 10:00pm that I didn’t have anything ready for Monday morning on the blog. The Mae Young gravy train has finally dried up! So let’s jump back into the Observers again.

I won’t bore you with details, but I screwed up and posted the 10/11 issue first because I had been working on this one during all the website problems with F4WOnline.com and never got a chance to finish it.  So I had to go back last night and redo the 10/4 issue to prevent any further rips in the space-time continuum.

So last week’s recap was the September 27 issue, but unfortunately I skipped the September 20 issue because it’s mis-labeled as September 29, so it’s CATCH-UP time.  Unfortunately, server issues persist on the Observer site, so it’s a major pain in the ass to access the back issue archives and it’s lucky I was able to get to this one.  Otherwise it’d be 1997 WWF up the wazoo until it’s fixed.  And no one wants that.  Attitude Era, yucky.

And now, the beginning of a grand tradition in wrestling:  Shawn Michaels weasels out of having to lose a title in the ring.  You know it’s bad news for the WWF when their troubles eclipse the dumpster fire that was Fall Brawl ‘93. 

Damn, if you thought Summerslam 93 was exciting, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet, because it’s time for THE ANNUAL NWA CONVENTION!

I wonder if they’ll ratify any new bylaws?  OOOOOOO, the suspense is killing me!
