Wrestling Observer Flashbacks 1989

With our impending move back to 1990 in the Observer Flashbacks, I thought I’d repost the last one we left off with, back when the blog was aflutter with Starrcade ’89 rebooking excitement.

It’s the last issue of 1989, which means two things:  Starrcade review, and a new year tomorrow.  But the question remains, which year?

Getting closer to Starrcade!  Maybe Dave will rebook it.

Apologies to those waiting for a Survivor Series review, but my 1989 collection is missing the 12/4 issue, so we have to skip ahead a week.

Terry Funk has retired.  I know, I know, I’ll give you a minute to let it sink in.

It’s a good week to be Akira Maeda, apparently.  To the news!

I still can’t believe Dave didn’t like Halloween Havoc.  Well, he goes into a lengthy discussion of it this week to start, anyway…

Time for HALLOWEEN HAVOC ‘89!

Who else is with me on getting Robert from 60 Days In to sign with WWE as the greatest heel manager of all time?  Vince can stick him into a Hell in a Cell match with Undertaker and he’ll be like “I call it Meditation in a Cell!” and people will want him to DIE.  No wonder Smackdown is getting its ass kicked by that show on Thursdays.

Hopefully I’ll be done coughing by the time this gets posted.

“Oh hey, we’re really enjoying 88 and 89, but we want to see what 85 is like!  You should totally go back and do that!”

“What?  You mean after 89 is done we’ll have to go back to yucky 85 for months?  Boo!”

More proof democracy doesn’t work.

Also, Starrcade 89 was perfect as it was, with each match being ***** and better than the one that preceded it.

And rebooking Starrcade 89.  Sometimes I feel like I’m missing the joke on my own blog with this shit.
