Mike Re-Books WCW Starrcade 1998

By Michael Fitzgerald on 23rd November 2022

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We haven’t done this feature in a while, but seeing as I finally finished the Top 50 Favourite Wrestlers journey I’ve been on, I felt I’d dig this one out of the mothballs because I always find it fun to do and sometimes it generates some fun discussion.

For those new to this feature, I look at a wrestling show from the past and have a bash at tweaking the card somewhat to see what I come up with. In some cases certain matches will stay the same if I personally like them and don’t see a reason to change them.

This week we’ve got Starrcade 1998, a shown known for being one of the many “beginning of the end(s)” for WCW, as it didn’t really feel like the biggest show of the year and they ended it with a big middle finger to the fans, with Bill Goldberg’s long unbeaten streak getting ended in the Main Event by Kevin Nash, someone who didn’t need it or really benefit from it as he laid down for Hogan 8 days later on Nitro.

I’m going to have a tinker with it and I’ll also play with the continuity prior to the event as well. Once we’re done we’ll look at where possibly WCW could go once my version of the show and you fine guys, gals and non-binary Champs can decide whether you think the show is better or not (You might even think I’ve made it worse, which is certainly a possibility).

Mike Re-Books WWF King of the Ring 1995

By Michael Fitzgerald on 1st June 2022

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

A few months back I wrote a feature where I took a look at WWF WrestleMania X-8 and tried to see what I would do differently if I had a chance to go back in time and re-book it. That seemed to go down rather well, so I thought I would take a look at a show that was historically one of the poorest received WWF events ever in the form of King of the Ring 1995 from Philly.

The WWF did have some slim excuse for the quality of the show, as both the planned babyface finalist (Razor Ramon) and the backup babyface finalist (1-2-3 Kid) were both too injured to put in three matches, so the WWF had to go with Savio Vega instead, who had only just shown up on screen with his babyface character a mere month before this event and thus wasn’t remotely over enough to justify the push he was about to get on the night.

It didn’t help that the Heel choice for finalist was to be Nelson “Mabel” Frazier, who the crowd had zero interest in treating as a top star, even with a recent push. The Main Event felt kind of weak as well, as Diesel and Bam Bam Bigelow were due to face-off with Sid and Tatanka. There had at least been a good build for a match between Jerry Lawler and Bret Hart, but that was about it.

What I’m going to try and do here is not only put together what I hope will be a better overall King of the Ring 1995 event, but I will also attempt to set up some matches and storylines for the future as well, using the events on this show as a precursor.

Let’s see how we do anyway. Please feel free to add your own thoughts and re-booking ideas in the comments section.

Mike Re-Books WrestleMania X-8

By Michael Fitzgerald on 23rd February 2022

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Before we move on to the Opening Matches from WrestleMania 21 to 25, I thought I’d do this because reviewing the opener of Mania X-8 brought up my thoughts on how to book it differently, as it’s a Mania with a lot of filler that I think could have been better with some tweaking. Hence I’ve given it a bash this week.

We’ll be back to Opening Matches next week. Feel free to leave your own comments about this new line-up. I doubt this will be a regular feature I do, I just felt like doing it this time out.
