Seven Days in Women's Wrestling

Welcome to the end of another week in wrestling.  The women wrestled last week!  I think I should write a 7-8 page article on it.  But first, did you catch the previous edition that I posted Sunday?  It covered the week I missed in my absence, with excitement like the return of Rhea Ripley and Mariah May stabbing Toni Storm with a heel.  You can catch it here.

Well hello, and welcome back to Seven Days in Women’s Wrestling.  This week, I have two editions for you as I disappeared last week.  I was on a great vacation!

That’s a lie, who can afford a vacation in 2024?  Long story short, my house was hit with some major electrical issues that left me without power (and, in Georgia, the more important part of air conditioning) for almost the entire week.  There were several times it popped back on for an hour, then went away again, causing some great up and down emotions that I didn’t really need for my usual mix of anxiety and depression.  They finally diagnosed that they had to dig up and replace the entire electrical line going from outside to my breaker box, and now I have air, warm water, the ability to charge phones, cook food and live like I’m not a cavewoman.  It’s nice!  Those first few days back, I was working on not being mentally drained and just doing things that made me feel good instead of focusing on writing as well as my actual job, which never stopped during all of this because we’ve gotta pay the bills even when things don’t work..

But now I’m back.  I thought about doing this in one big “Fourteen Days in Women’s Wrestling” column, but that seemed like a lot for a column that’s already long.  There were some pretty big things in each week as well, so I’m breaking it up like usual.  You get the week I missed – July 7 to 13 – today and I’ll pop up Tuesday afternoon as usual with last week, July 14 to 20.

Enough about me, let’s talk about Rhea Ripley, Mariah May and some other pretty big names that did some pretty big things!

It’s a super-sized week of wrestling this week.  We started the week with AEW entering the Forbidden Door on Sunday and ended it with WWE chasing the Money in the Bank on Saturday.  In between, we had all the usual weekly shows.  How much attention did the women get? Let’s find out.

This week in women’s wrestling, we’ve walked towards the Forbidden Door, qualified for Money in the Bank and so much more.  Let’s take our dive into the week.

First though, I’m playing with the format this week.  Instead of going Sunday through Saturday, I’m grouping everything by brand – WWE including NXT, AEW including ROH, and TNA.  With the ROH titles (well, the men’s titles) and its talent persistently on AEW programming, I figure it is time to combine it with AEW’s numbers.  At the same time, WWE often views NXT as a third show and it has a new TV deal coming up, so it’s all going together.

I’m also breaking from giving letter grades.  Just like with giving star ratings, it’s very subjective.  I’m not always comfortable putting a rating on things, especially the smaller shows.  Don’t worry, you still get all the opinion.  And you’re welcome to form your own, even if you’re wrong (looking at you, “I don’t see why Liv Morgan is in the spot she’s in” crew.)

After a week of supercards. It is nice to get back to the regular television schedule.  Of course, in 2024 that’s still quite the slate of programming.  Let’s see what the women were given this week.

This week, the world of women’s wrestling had a lot of gold on the line.  Two belts were up for grabs on AEW’s Dynasty and the WWE Women’s World Title found a new champion in a battle royal.  Let’s see what happened in WWE, AEW and TNA this week.

We’re in the stretch after WrestleMania and the final sell before Dynasty.  Let’s see what the women had in store this week.

It’s been another packed week of wrestling this week.  We started with the second half of WrestleMania and ended with the Battle of the Belts (equally important, right?).
