The 2024 WWE Slammys

By Kat Bourne on 7 April 2024

That’s right, the Slammy Awards are back again. They were last presented in 2020 during the pandemic. While originally presented in award shows in the 1980s and 90s, they mostly became an “episode of the week” clutch in the 2000s and 2010s.

Presented at 10:30 a.m. EST this year, they started the Sunday festivities for WrestleMania Weekend and were aired on YouTube.

Then, Now, Together, Forever. Now with more Triple H.

We start backstage with Cathy Kelley (unbiased journalist) and Big E (holder of many titles) checking each other’s outfits. Cathy welcomes us to the most prestigious award show that happens at 10:30. They promise a lot of surprises as Big E wonders why there isn’t enough red carpet. Welcome to the Slammys, the Fans Choice Awards.

Were live on stage at WWE World with an audience of fans. Big E says we are gathered here to celebrate them Slammys, saying he is jazzed to be here. Cathy says she’s been watching old Mean Gene clips as Big E waits for the teleprompter to catch up.

Cathy tells us the fans held the power this year, as they voted on WWE dot com. She says we lack musical numbers has have special correspondents as she introduces our red carpet reporter R-Truth.

R-Truth, wearing his new WWE Raw Tag Team Title, says he is honored to be here at the 875th Annual Oscars. We get a “Truth” chant and he says it isn’t about him, but it’s about the winners. He shows off his red carpet, which is doormat size, and says he hopes to present one of his favorite movies. “It’s called the Barbie Movie.” His favorite person was “the merman that nobody couldn’t see, dawg.” E reminds him that this isn’t the Oscars. “My bad. This not going to the Emmys?” Cathy says she can almost guarantee we aren’t winning an Emmy for this. Not with that attitude! Truth says he probably won a Grammy for Single of the Year and performs “What’s Up” as he does.

Cathy notes that was the musical performance we were lacking and says we will check back in with Truth later. Now it’s time for our first award as Cathy – with a perfect British accent – tells us she’s afraid she has some bad news. Our first presenter is Wade Barrett.

Wade says it’s time for the first Slammy, Best Entrance of the Year. Our nominees in the video package: Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Cody Rhodes, Dirty Dominik Mysterio specifically at WrestleMania 39, Rhea Ripley, Roman Reigns, The Rock, Seth “Freakin” Rollins.

And the winner is… Cody Rhodes. I’m shocked. Wade says Cody had a pretty bad night last night and is preparing for tonight, so he’s joining us by video.

Cody, eyebrow bandaged, says he is excited the Slammys are back and is excited to have this one. He says the “Whoa” and “Kingdom”’will stay with him forever and shouts out Downstrait.

Cathy congratulates Cody and Big E says it’s time for the next category, but we should bring out a friend to help present it. Big E welcomes Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias. He says he’s excited to be here as we get a “Fluffy” chant.

We are presenting Match of the Year. The nominees: Sami vs Roman (Elimination Chamber), Charlotte vs Rhea (Mania 39), Bad Bunny vs Priest (Backlash), Asuka vs Belair vs Charlotte (SummerSlam), Gunther vs Gable (Raw). Becky/Trish were robbed.

And the winner is: Charlotte vs Rhea. I can support that. Rhea joins us via video. She says it was a clear winner and why would it not be? She says it’ll look nice with all the other awards she’s won this year in her office. Cathy says she’ll do the honors of personally delivering the award to Rhea later because she lives my dreams every day.

Fluffy says it’s great for Rhea to give us a video speech, but he’s brought a friend to help him accept the award as well… and Charlotte is with us in person! Lots of Woooos from the crowd. She says she doesn’t know what to say but “woooo.” She says it’s bittersweet being here while out injured, but all she wants to do is steal the show. Charlotte says she could not be more proud of Rhea, she misses us, and we better believe she’s coming back for this award at WrestleMania 41.

Charlotte is also presenting our next award, finding the teleprompter. It’s Breakout Star of the Year. The awkwardness of the teleprompter is a struggle here for sure.

The nominees for Breakout Star of the Year: Dragon Lee, Jey Uso, LA Knight, Pretty Deadly, Tiffany Stratton.

And the winner is: LA Knight. Not a shock. LA joins us via video. Knight says it’s a gala event and a special now. He appreciates the award and says let’s talk about 2024, 2025 and 2026. We’ve created a foundation and now it’s time to build the mansion. Yeah.

Big E says that Truth has been holding the cue cards all morning as we get the sight gag of Truth holding a giant grocery list. It’s time for our next presenter, Booker T. Sadly Knuckles is not here to menacingly stare at Booker from behind, my favorite part of the whole weekend.

Booker gives us a “Shucky Ducky Quack Quack” and says something near and dear to his heart this year is NXT. This award is for the NXT Superstar of the Year.

And the nominees are: Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Ilja Dragunov, Lyra Valkyria, Tiffany Stratton.

And the winner is: Tiffany Stratton. Not a bad choice. Tiffany is here live with us to claim her Slammy. She asks what time it is, getting the mandatory “Tiffy Time.” She says she’s not surprised she won and she’s here to introduce Sal from Impractical Jokers as well. Sure, why not. Then she talks about herself some more and all the things she’s done and her huge future in the business. She’s pretty great at this.

Sal asks what the crowd’s favorite rivalry is, saying he makes a living off rivalries.

The nominees for Rivalry of the Year are: Dirty Dominik Mysterio vs Rey Mysterio, Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes, Bianca Belair vs Damage CTRL, Seth Freakin Rollins vs Drew McIntyre, R-Truth vs The Judgment Day.

Sal tells us about his upcoming comedy special. And the winner is: Roman vs Cody. Roman is obviously not here, but Cody joins us via video again. Cody says he’s honored to accept this and it’s bittersweet because it involved the lowest point of his career. He says we share this and it’ll be a nice consolation prize for Roman when he leaves WrestleMania XL without the title.

Cathy notes that all reputable award shows give out some awards before the show and E introduces us to the preshow winners. The Fan Chant of the Year goes to “Yeah!” which is probably the obvious choice. Paul Heyman wins Mic Drop of the Year for telling Cody that Roman was the son Dusty always wanted.

Seth wins “The Rizzie” for his fashion that Blog of Doom commenters LOVE (y’all are going to hate Randy Savage when you get that far back in your rewatches). Villain of the Year goes to Dirty Dom and that’s probably the right answer too. The Rock wins Trash Talker of the Year as we get a montage of him making fun of the crowds.

Cathy says she knows Big E called in a lot of friends but she called in an enemy as she introduces Dirty Dominik Mysterio. Dom has spectacular overalls and gets all the booing. All the booing! Dom tries to say he heard Faction of the Year nominees are next but the boos keep raining in.

Dom says he’s just going to stay out here because he knows he’s winning. E introduces Nick Aldis and Adam Pearce to present the award, which means Cathy had Dom out just to get booed. She’s a genius. No, really. She’s in MENSA.

Nick asks Dom to back up as Adam introduces us to the nominee package. The nominees for Faction of the Year: Alpha Academy, The Bloodline, Damage CTRL, Imperium, The Judgment Day.

And the winning faction is: The Judgment Day. Can’t argue that either. Nick says before we get to Dom, we have a video from the entire group including Dom. Damien Priest says they’ve dominated every brand and we haven’t seen anything yet. All rise for the Judgment Day! Back live, the boos are loud for Dom again. The GMs drag Dom out by his arms which seems biased. Rhea says they’re her new heroes.

Cathy sends us back to R-Truth. Truth says he’s with a few people who want to present an award as we see Kayla Braxton and Byron Saxton in the crowd, who Truth introduces as Kayla Saxton and Byron Braxton.

Kayla thanks him for trying as Byron introduces us to our next award, Social Star of the Year. And the nominees are: Logan Paul, Liv Morgan, Chelsea Green, Grayson Waller, Drew McIntyre.

Kayla presents our winner as Chelsea Green comes out, grabs the Slammy and thanks everyone. Kayla says she hasn’t announced the winner yet and announces Drew McIntyre, here to accept the award as Chelsea throws a fit. She deserves all the Slammys.

Drew tells her to calm down or he will have security “escort” her out, playing off her hotel issues earlier this week. The fans chant “CM Punk” and Drew days Punk gets injured so easily so he can’t be here. Drew says he was always going to win the award (Chelsea: “No you were not!”) and that Rhea/Charlotte wasn’t even the best match of the weekend, noting that his match deserved a nomination. He says screw you and dedicates the award to Punk. Chelsea grabs the award and runs off. Drew: “Whatever, I’ve got two at home. I’m gonna go win the World Title now, cheers!”

Cathy calls all of that eventful as Big E introduces two of his closest friends in the world, here to give out two awards. E says it’s the fifth anniversary of Kofimania as he introduces Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Lots of “New Day rocks” chants. Kofi says twerking is hard after a ladder match but the fans deserve it. Woods says this is a momentous occasion.

Our first award is for Female Superstar of the Year. And the nominees are: Bayley, Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, IYO Sky, Rhea Ripley. Let’s be real, there’s only one way the fan vote goes here.

And the winner is: Rhea Ripley. Rhea joins us via video again. Rhea says “Female Superstar of the Year” has a good ring to it and people always vote for Mami to be on top. Fair.

New Day introduce their next category, Male Superstar of the Year. And the nominees are: Gunther, Logan Paul, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth “Freakin” Rollins.

And the winner is: Cody Rhodes. Who else? Again, the fan vote is pretty clear. Cody joins us via video one more time. He says the Slammy being fan-voted and he says this is not lost on him. He says it’s cool to be a Slammy winner, 2K24 winner and back in the main event. He hopes to leave with these of these and the Undisputed Championship.

Cathy promises hip gyration if we make it to the end, but first we have two more awards. Here to give out the awards are The Bump’s Megan Morant and Sam Roberts.

Megan and Sam promote tomorrow’s episode of The Bump but right now it’s the Best OMG Moment, and Sam says he can’t wait to see what the One Man Gang did to win it.

The nominees are: Rey punches Dom (SmackDown), IYo Sky cashes in MITB (SummerSlam), CM Punk returns to WWE (Survivor Series), Damage CTRL turns on Bayley (SmackDown), Rock slaps Cody Rhodes (WrestleMania XL Kickoff), Cody Rhodes slaps Rock (SmackDown).

And the winner is: CM Punk. Punk is here to accept and soak in the chants. There are a lot of chants. Punk asks if anyone else has only slept three hours in the last few hours and says this is why he had bags under his eyes for ten years. He says it is corny but this means a lot. He is back where he belongs and it’s been remarkable what WWE has done with these fans. He calls it a runaway freight train and says he appreciates the One Man Gang of the Year Award and can’t wait to have boots and tights on at WrestleMania XL.

Cathy stops Punk and says she thinks he has a pretty good shot at winning and should stick around. Our next category: Return of the Year.

And the nominees are: Nia Jax, Randy Orton, CM Punk, The Rock, Naomi.

“CM Punk” chants. And the winner is: yep, Mr. Punk. Punk says he wishes he could just repeat the first speech. He says without the fans we don’t have moments and thanks the fans. He says he stepped on Randy’s return and this award is for the fans. He says ten years ago he would have had to say “WWE Universe” instead of “fans” and he’ll see us tonight.

Big E thanks the fans for coming to the return of the Slammys and Cathy says this is the best award show to ever happen during Mercury Retrograde. Big E thanks everyone and plugs Mania as we are out. We do not get the promised dancing.

This was a fun little watch. They struggled at first with the teleprompter but it started clicking about halfway through. Cathy and E are great of course, and this went exactly how a fan voted show would. I’m not sure how people outside of Rhea, Cody and Punk have a shot.
