Seven Days in Women’s Wrestling: March 3 to 9, 2024
By Kat Bourne on 11 March 2024
This week, we have special shows for AEW, NXT and TNA plus the road to WrestleMania, Stand & Deliver and Ring of Honor.
What were the women up to this week? Let’s dig in!
Sunday – AEW Revolution (and Zero Hour)
Tonight’s Card: Two of the eleven matches (including the Zero Hour preshow) included women for approximately 26 minutes of in-ring time. Six women saw action in comparison to 39 men.
Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander defeated Julia Hart & Skye Blue in 13:30. A good Zero Hour match that sets up Willow as Julia’s next hopeful challenger.
Toni Storm defeated Deonna Purrazzo in an AEW Women’s World Title match in 12:17. An enjoyable match, at least up to the standards of what they can do with the Timeless gimmick. Mariah May is again in Toni cosplay.
Other Developments: None.
Final Score: Six women to 39 men is rough and with two women’s titles, you can make an effort to fit them both on the PPV (though poor Jericho might not get his marquee match). What we did get was good though. C.
Monday – WWE Monday Night Raw
Tonight’s Card: Two of seven matches tonight involved women for approximately 17:30 of in-ring time. Six women saw action compared to twelve men.
Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark defeated Kayden Carter & Katana Chance in 6:20. The fall of Kayden & Katana sucks, but we seem to have issues building more than two teams at a time. That said, I’m all for the ass kickers continuing to kick ass.
Nia Jax defeated Becky Lynch in 10:55. A good brawl that ends in DQ thanks to Liv Morgan attacking Nia Jax. Hopefully this moves Becky onto the Rhea build.
Other Developments: Becky yells at Liv backstage, which sets up a match for next week. Indi & Candice, Ivy & Maxxine and Natalya & Tegan all have a backstage talk. Rhea Ripley tells Damage CTRL to stay out of her territory. Valhalla puts her dirty feet on the announce table and gives Michael Cole her antlers.
Final Score: Insert usual “there should be more on a three hour show” complaint here. Both titles have things being actively built here, so I’m not complaining too much. But I am complaining. C.
Tuesday: WWE NXT – Roadblock
Tonight’s Card: Two of six matches tonight involved women for approximately seventeen minutes of in-ring action. Six women saw action compared to ten men.
Kabuki Warriors defeated Lyra Valkyria & Tatum Paxley in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match in 13:14. A solid tag match, even if the results were never in doubt. The big story is the post-match attack of Roxanne Perez stomping Lyra’s arm, which sets up both a future title match and Tatum being crazy towards Roxanne.
Fallon Henley defeated Blair Davenport in 3:30. This mostly just existed for the return of Sol Ruca, attacking Blair outside the ring.
Other Developments: Jacy Jayne makes fun of Chase U losing, which leads to Thea Hail freaking out and leaving. Gigi Dolin and Arianna Grace set up a match for next week, with Arianna being able to “bring out Gigi’s inner beauty” if she wins. A few other backstage segments set up the matches we saw tonight.
Final Score: The tag champs appearing is always a big deal and led a great match. Otherwise, lots of setting up the future here. Not quite the female presence we usually get, but it was a marquee show. B-.
Wednesday – AEW Dynamite
Tonight’s Card: One of five matches tonight involved women for approximately ten minutes of in-ring time. Two women saw action compared to ten men.
Riho defeated Kris Statlander in 9:51. A good match as Riho is this month’s “surprise, I’m on every week for a month” competitor. Willow challenges Riho for next week’s Dynamite “Big Business” show.
Other Developments: Toni Storm applauds Mariah May’s cosplay and awards her with her first T-shirt. Julia Hart issues an open challenge for Rampage, answered shortly after by Robyn Renegade. I don’t like Robyn’s odds.
Final Score: The new-look Dynamite felt a lot like every other Dynamite for the women with a ten minute match and a short backstage segment. We’ll see if next week’s “Big Business” triggers the “change is coming” we keep hearing about. C-.
Thursday – ROH on HonorClub
Tonight’s Card: Three of the five matches tonight involved women for approximately fourteen minutes of in-ring action. Six women saw action compared to ten men.
Red Velvet defeated Leyla Hirsch in a World TV Title Tournament Quarterfinal match in 9:46. A really fun match that highlighted both women. Velvet isn’t a shock as the winner as she’s had an overarching AEW spotlight compared to Hirsch, but she’s a good choice.
Abadon defeated Julie Azul in 1:46. Julie has no Cagematch profile, so she’s very mysterious. Just a squash for Abadon and they are good at squashing newbies.
Nyla Rose defeated Airica Dimia in 1:48. This is Airica’s big three TV debut, though she did have a match on NWA Powerrrrrrr a few months back. Nyla squished her here. As she should.
Other Developments: Nothing really.
Final Score: For the second week in a row, it’s a shortened focused show and it was so much better to watch. Rumor has it that this is just due to taping issues, but what if we just kept it this way! A good show for the women and the brand tonight. A-.
Thursday – TNA Impact
Tonight’s Card: Two of the six matches tonight involved women for approximately ten minutes of action. Four women competed compared to ten men.
Ash by Elegance defeated Angel Blue in 2:43. Angel has been kicking around the indies for quite some time, but this is her big league debut. A squash for Ash.
Dani Luna defeated Masha Slamovich in 7:09. I enjoyed this as it’s two good workers doing their thing and setting up tag matches.
Other Developments: None.
Final Score: It’s the go-home show for Sacrifice, so I wasn’t expecting much… and that’s what I got. The intro to Ash continues and the women’s tag division continues its trials. No real complaints. B-.
Thursday – WWE Main Event
Tonight’s Card: One of two matches tonight involved women for approximately 5:30 of in-ring action. Two women and four men competed.
Chelsea Green defeated Candice LeRae in 5:30. I know being stuck on Main Event can be a curse, but Chelsea is kinda rocking it.
Final Score: B. The usual.
Friday – AEW Rampage
Tonight’s Card: One of four matches tonight involved women for approximately four minutes of action. Two women competed compared to twelve men.
Julia Hart defeated Robyn Renegade in 2:00. Robyn is making a random of appearance after being all over AEW, largely on the losing side for the last year. We do get a women’s wrestling chant, unfortunately it’s over quick with a two minute squash.
Other Developments: Saraya calls Ruby Soho filth and the story continues until 2074.
Final Score: Not much happening for the ladies this week. A quick plate of squash with a side of Outcasts. D.
Friday – NXT Level Up
Tonight’s Card: One of three matches tonight involved women for approximately 4:30. Two women competed compared to four men.
Izzi Dame defeated Karmen Petrovic in 4:29. Two of our newer stars getting some time. Not mad at it.
Final Score: B.
Friday – TNA Sacrifice
Tonight’s Card: Including the preshow, two of ten matches tonight included women for approximately sixteen minutes. Seven women saw action compared to 24 men.
Spitfire defeat MK-Ultra in a TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Title match in 2:34. Spitfire are Dani Luna & Jody Threat for those new to them. This was… quick. Spitfire win the belts and Masha Slamovich is upset with Killer Kelly post-match.
Jordynne Grace defeated Tasha Steelz and Xia Brookside in a TNA Knockouts World Title match in 12:36. I enjoyed this one too. Jordynne can hold this belt until someone new comes along to take it.
Other Developments: Well, a good title match and a surprise tag title change. I wish the tag match would’ve gotten more time, but maybe we’re building a story here. C.
Friday – TNA Xplosion
Tonight’s Card: Zero of the two matches involved women.
Final Score: F
Friday – WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Tonight’s Card: One of four matches tonight involved women for approximately 2:24 in-ring. Two women competed compared to eight men.
Tiffany Stratton defeated Michin in 2:24. Mostly a squash for Tiffy, something Michin should not be on the other side of.
Other Developments: Bayley has a sit down interview and she’s she’s all alone. Bianca Belair and Naomi watch it on a monitor, with Bianca noting that Bayley did it to herself and Naomi showing sympathy. Damage CTRL make fun and say that next week it’s Bayley vs Dakota Kai.
Final Score: Listen, I know it’s Mania season. I know Rock and Roman need 40 minutes to talk. But I know the women deserve more than three minutes on the flagship program. D.
Saturday – AEW Collision
Tonight’s Card: One of seven matches tonight involved women approximately 6:30. Two women competed compared to twenty men.
Mariah May defeated Trish Adora in 6:14. I was hoping they’d give them ten minutes to work because they can… but they didn’t. Best we can do is six minutes WITH a commercial break.
Other Developments: Timeless Toni presents her first Toni Award to Mariah. Deonna Purrazzo shows to attack but is taken down by Mariah.
Final Score: It’s always a shame they can only find about eight minutes to feature women on a show where twenty men have matches. C-.
