AAA – 09.05.26

Content: Raw | NXT | Evolve | Main Event | Impact | Smackdown

Words: AAA is back on Youtube following the big Ola de Calor show in Texas. Tonight’s show comes from Coliseo Centenario in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico and will be brought to us by the announcing team of Corey Graves, John Bradshaw Layfield, and AAA GM Rey Mysterio on match calls, analysis, and translation, while Jesus Zuniga handles ring introductions. Let’s watch some LUCHA!

Ola de Calor highlights open the show, and a lot of things happened to get us ready for the upcoming TripleMania weekend.

Dinamico and Los Vipers (Histeria and Taurus) vs AAA Latin American Champion La Parka, Mr. Iguana, and El Fiscal

Parka starts with Histeria and immediately waffles him with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Histeria begs off and tags in Taurus who eats a Parka dropkick. Iguana comes in and brings Taurus down with a facebreaker. La Yesca gets a blow in on Taurus who doesn’t seem to be too happy about it. Iguana comes off the top with a rana and Fiscal and Dinamico tag in. Fiscal waffles Dinamico with a lariat and Histeria grabs a tag. Histeria’s tiny man offense has little effect on Fiscal who wants a press-slam. Dinamico breaks that up and Los Vipers go to work on Fiscal’s leg. Dinamico tags in and smashes Fiscal’s knee into the mat a few times. Fiscal dumps Dinamico over and Dinamico drags Fiscal back to the rudo corner. Taurus tags in and he clubbers away at Fiscal’s back. Fiscal fires up and nails Taurus with a twisting splash. Iguana gets the tag and fires off his helicopter rana and a headbutt on Dinamico. Los Vipers trip up Iguana, who decides to tag in Parka as quickly as possible. Parka runs wild on the rudos and Parka hits asit-out powerbomb for two as Histeria breaks up the cover. Fiscal dumps Los Vipers, and Fiscal and Iguana combine on a huge cross-body before Fiscal ruins everyone with a tope. Parka hits an over the top rope splash and runs Histeria back in. Parka hits the Bonebreaker and covers Histeria for three.

A fun trios sprint to open the show and I thought the rudos were very good here in playing up to the technicos strengths. Histeria being about 5’3″ is fun when he goes nose to shoulders with the much taller Fiscal. Parka came out without his title belt so I’m guessing this was leftover footage from the previous Torreon show, but that’s fine as this was well-edited and had terrific crowd heat. 3*

Winners – La Parka/El Fiscal/Mr. Iguana (Parka Bonebreaker on Histeria)

Post-match sees La Parka find a tiny La Parka in the crowd for some dancing.

Here’s some footage from the Ola de Calor women’s gauntlet match that La Catalina ended up winning over surprising entrant La Hiedra. Andrea Bazarte got some post-match comments from Catalina who’s very excited for the shot at Flammer during TripleMania. Bazarte questions Catalina’s plans while having an arm injury, and she promises nothing will stop her from taking Flammer’s title. Catalina knows how savvy Flammer is but claims she knows all the possible tricks and is ready for them.

Here’s a look at Penta defeating Rey Fenix on Raw to earn the World Championship shot at the upcoming Mexico City shows. Kat will have you covered there as it’s happening on Raw a week from Monday!

Here’s the Rey Mysterio-narrated piece on the history of TripleMania and the Trios titles that have been foundational to the event over time.

Here’s El Grande Americano introducing the legendary Pimpinela Escarlata (a Torreon native) who gets an IMMENSE pop. (I fucking LOVE Pimpi and you should too.) Pimpi plants a kiss on a ringside fan and joins EGA in the ring. Pimpi thanks Torreon and a PIMPI chant breaks out. Pimpi wants everyone to take care of their parents and thanks EGA for sharing his spotlight. They embrace warmly and EGA plants one on Pimpi’s cheek. Pimpi soaks in some chants and there are some tears, and EGA expresses what an honor it is to share a ring with Pimpi in Torreon. EGA leaves as Pimpi soaks in some more cheers.

Here’s a pre-taped promo from El Grande Americano going over his accomplishments of the past year including claiming Rey de Reyes and taking the mask from El Grande Americano Original. EGA is now fully focused on taking the Mega Championship from Dominik Mysterio at TripleMania. EGA wants to win for himself and for all the people who’ve gotten him to this point. EGA says this effort is for the legacy, history, and PRIDE of his people. (EGA cuts money promos, friends. If you don’t get fired up watching this I don’t know what to tell you.)

Here’s Mr. Iguana backstage in AAA GM Rey Mysterio’s office. Iguana is pointing out that he hadn’t lost in singles in a long time and would like a shot at the Latin American championship, and Iguana confirms that it’s VERY important to him. Mysterio makes Laredo Kid vs Mr. Iguana vs La Parka for the Latin American title at the Las Vegas show. La Parka wanders in and Iguana advises him that they need to chat.

Graves runs down the TripleMania cards and both cards are fairly stacked. I am EXCITED for this.

Andrea Bazarte caught up with AAA Tag Team Champions The War Raiders who are feeling good. The Raiders are defending the titles at the Mexico City Smackdown against Damian Priest and R-Truth and are offering an open challenge for TripleMania to “any team around the world”. Kind of giving away the Smackdown result there, guys, but it is what it is. (Priest is going to murder Truth after this match ends, bank on it.)

AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Flammer makes her way to ringside to watch the main event.

La Catalina vs Adelicious

Catalina whips her earrings at Flammer before starting with Adelicious. Catalina smacks Adelicious with a kick and then mashes her with a dropkick off an irish whip. Catalina misses a lariat and eats an Adelicious dropkick. Adelicious whips Catalina down by her hair and puts the boots to her. Catalina fires up with a forearm and Adelicious cuts that off with a sling blade that gets two. Adelicious rams Catalina’s head into a turnbuckle but misses a subsequent charge. Catalina mashes Adelicious with a kaman giri and then ascends for a missile dropkick. Catalina hits a Hip Attack and yanks Adelicious over in a belly to back suplex. Catalina hits another Hip Attack and yanks Adelicious into a submission that turns into a rolling facebuster. Catalina’s cover gets three.

Just a quick sprint to show Flammer what she’s facing at TripleMania. Catalina looked a bit more polished here and seems well up for the title match at CDMX. 2.25*

Winner – La Catalina (rolling facebuster)

Post-match sees Flammer approach the celebrating Catalina, who invites her into the ring. Flammer starts up the steps and walks the apron, but ultimately declines to enter while badmouthing Catalina the whole way. Flammer holds her belt high and exits up the aisle. The credits roll and we’re out.

This was more a commercial for TripleMania than a regular show but it’s such a breeze to recap I’ll take whatever I can get. This is a huge week for WWE in Mexico starting with Smackdown and TripleMania Night 1 on Friday, Night 2 on Sunday, and Raw on Monday night. I’m excited for the fans and for people who don’t regularly watch lucha to see just how great these crowds are.

Thanks for reading. Enjoy your Sunday and Labor Day weekend.
