AAA Ola de Calor – 08.30.26

AAA presents Ola de Calor today from the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, TX and the show is available to watch on Youtube. The English-speaking announcing team for today’s card features Corey Graves, AAA GM ReyMysterio, and John Bradshaw Layfield on match calls and analysis, and Jesus Zuniga handling ring announcements. There are six big matches on the card, so let’s watch some lucha!

There’s a highlights package to open the show of recent major AAA developments in the build-up to this show and the upcoming huge September cards.

Arrivals: Penta, AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix, and Dragon Lee. Here’s El Grande Americano entering prior to his big contract signing for the Mega Championship match against Dominik Mysterio, who arrives with Dorian Roldan.

Joaquin Wilde, Cruz del Toro, Lince Dorado, and Mini Abismo Negro vs Axiom, Mr. Iguana, Noisy Boy, and Mascarita Sagrada

It’s Wilde and Axiom to start and Wilde lifts a knee before being caught by an Axiom armdrag and dropkick. Del Toro blasts Axiom in the back and Axiom then gets murdered by a Wilde lariat. Noisy tags in and he sends del Toro to the floor. Del Toro sneaks back in and blasts Noisy in the back. Dorado tags in and pounds away on Noisy. Noisy escapes and tags in Sagrada. Sagrada slaps around Dorado before dropkicking him in the nuts. Iguana comes in and he wastes Dorado with a flying headbutt. The heels charge in and send everyone to the floor. Mini Abismo nails the faces with a cross-body, and Wilde flies on to the pile as well. Dorado hits the entire party with a twisting Shooting Star Press before running Iguana back in. Wilde tags in and he mashes Iguana with a lariat in the heel corner. Wilde hits an enziguri and then he and del Toro combine on a double vertical suplex. Wilde’s cover gets two.

Mini Abismo tags in and he hits a backbreaker on Iguana before tossing him up for a facebreaker. Dorado wastes Sagrada with a right to send him to the floor and Dorado lands an armdrag on Iguana that gets two. Iguana eats a Dorado backstabber before Dorado ascends for a Shooting Star Press that misses. Del Toro flies in and eats an enziguri from Iguana, and Sagrada tags in. Sagrada mashes del Toro around and slips a Wilde top rope jump attempt. Sagrada hits a vertical suplex on Wilde and then crushes Dorado with a springboard cross-body. Mini Abismo flies in and Sagrada’s pin attempt isn’t counted because Mini Abismo wasn’t legal. Noisy hits a poison rana and a Twisting Sky Press on the giant pile of heels on teh floor. Sagrada hits a helicopter rana on Mini Abismo and then ascends for a tope con hilo. Del Toro takes out Iguana with a dropkick. La Yesca gets some revenge on Del Toro and Iguana follows with his helicopter facebuster. Iguana covers and gets three.

A quick eight man sprint to get the crowd going, and they very much enjoyed Iguana and Sagrada specifically. A fun way to start the show. 2.75*

AAA Reina de Reinas Number One Contenders Gauntlet Match

Adelicious and Lady Shani will start things. Shani trips up Adelicious and there’s an armdrag exchange to a standoff. Shani trucks Adelicious down and then gator rolls her. Adelicious hits a leg scissors spin and then grabs a roll up for two. Shani blasts Adelicious in the back with a kick and then misses a second kick attempt. Shani kicks away at Adelicious in a corner and then waffles her with a huge running boot. Adelicious fires up with a lariat and a front handspring lariat. Adelicious fires off a shotgun dropkick and ascends for a dive that misses. Shani works a Tumbleweed and covers Adelicious for three.

Here’s Thea Hail out next and she runs wild on Shani for a minute before crushing her with a dropkick that gets two. Hail works an arm and lands on her shoulder before covering and getting two. Hail hits a helicopter rana and then mashes Shani with a tope suicida. Hail runs Shani back in and covers her for two. Shani trips up Hail and nails her with a running kick that gets two. Shani drags Hail down by her hair and covers her for two. Shani yanks Hail into a Boston Crab and then yanks Hail up for a Rock-A-Bye. Shani wants an armbar but Hail fights it off so Shani goes to a rear chinlock. Hail breaks it up and ascends, but Shani recovers and wants the Iconoclasm. Hail prevents that and slaps on a hanging armbar. Hail goes back in and Shani catches her with a sunset flip and the Tumbleweed gets two. Hail turns Shani over and gets three.

Here’s La Catalina out next and she charges right down to blast Hail with a roundhouse kick. Catalina hits a missile dropkick and mashes Hail with a Hip Attack. Catalina snaps off a Fisherman’s suplex and misses a second Hip Attack. Hail lands on Catalina’s arm and continues to pound away on it. Hail drags Catalina up and mashes her in a corner before tying Catalina’s arm up in a turnbuckle so she can kick it. Hail covers and gets two. Hail wants the Kimura but Catalina holds it off. Hail mashes Catalina’s elbow and then yanks her up to ram Catalina shoulder-first into the corner. Catalina fires up with some lariats and Hail responds by smashing her into a corner. Catalina hits a cross-body and drives a huge knee into Hail’s back. Catalina hoists Hail up on her shoulders but Hail slips down and wallops Catalina’s elbow. Hail slaps on the Kimura and Catalina manages to break out of it by driving Hail to a corner. Hail flies right back out and puts the Kimura back on but Catalina rolls over and gets a sneaky cover for three.

Here’s La Hiedra out as the final combatant. Flammer is stunned to see her stablemate in the mix here and cannot believe what she’s seeing. Hiedra tosses her mixed tag belt away and continues working Catalina’s devastated arm. Hiedra destroys Catalina’s arm and then goes to ground and pound. Hiedra mashes Catalina’s arm and then trucks her with a shoulder. Hiedra coves and gets two. Hiedra pounds on Catalina’s damaged arm and then drives her shoulder first into the turnbuckles. Hiedra fights off a brief Catalina flurry before Catalina drops Hiedra to the floor for a tope suicida. Catalina rolls Hiedra back in and yanks her throat-first over the top rope. Catalina ascends and Hiedra catches her with some rights before nailing her with the Iconoclasm. Hiedra gets rolled up for two. Hiedra hits a version of Jaded and covers Catalina for two. Hiedra slides out and grabs her mixed tag belt but the ref catches her. Catalina rolls up Hiedra for two and the Flammer slides in. Flammer blasts Hiedra with her title belt and Catalina takes advantage with a Baisaku knee that ends things.

I thought there might be something going on with Hiedra and Flammer, so we’ll see what the fallout is. The title match is announced for the Mexico City TripleMania show and I’m sure it will be a wild affair. This was a solid gauntlet match that didn’t overstay it’s welcome, but the crowd was muted until Hiedra showed up, quite frankly. 2.75*

Winner AND NEW Number One Contender for the Reina de Reinas Championship – La Catalina

AAA Tag Team Championship: The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) (C) vs Los Americanos (Rayo and Bravo Americano)

The Raiders have some new masks that are pretty cool, but they’re just ornamental because you cannot contain that much handsome under masks, friends. It’s Erik and Rayo to start and Erik trucks Rayo down. Rayo snaps off a dropkick and tags in Bravo. The Americanos hit double headbutts and Bravo covers Erik for one. Bravo gets pushed to the Raiders corner and that does not go well for him. Erik blasts Bravo with a right to the ribs, but Bravo flies off with some kicks and a big right. Bravo gets dumped as Rayo gets a tag, and they crotch Erik along the ring post. Erik fires up and Ivar gets a tag. They clubber away in their corner as Rayo collapses in a heap. Rayo fires up with some rights and gets dropped by a huge Ivar right. Ivar mashes Rayo with Sheamus-esque blows to the chest and then misses a butt-drop when Rayo tries a sunset flip. Erik tags in and Rayo fights both Raiders off before Ivar drops him with a knee. Erik crushes Rayo with a knee and gets two.

Rayo fights his way out of the Raiders corner and finally tags in Bravo. Bravo smashes Erik around and wallops him with a flying lariat. Bravo hits a body slam and then crushes Ivar with a back kick. Bravo ascends for a huge cross body on Erik, and Ivar tags in. Ivar gets caught by a Bravo enziguri and then Bravo ascends for a top rope rana. Rayo tags in and hits a swanton on Ivar for two. Bravo eats a huge Ivar roundhouse kick and gets dropped by an Erik knee. Erik tosses Ivar onto Bravo and Erik’s cover gets two. Ivar tags in and the Raiders double team attempt fails horribly. Rayo is now legal and he snaps Erik’s fingers before mashing him with a lariat. The Americanos combine on a springboard splash and Erik breaks up the cover at two.

Bravo tags in and Ivar eats a bunch of clubbering from Rayo and Bravo. Ivar fires up but misses a charge. The Americanos yank Ivar up but Erik prevents Rayo from continuing. Bravo now has Ivar on his shoulders by himself and turns it into an airplane spin. Bravo ascends as Erik pushes Rayo off a top turnbuckle. Bravo hits a diving headbutt but Erik had tossed in a tag belt, and Bravo actually lands on that. Ivar turns Bravo over and covers him for three.

So the announcers were fully confused because the camera folks didn’t catch Erik tossing the belt to Ivar and the finish was kind of baffling in that regard. Once the replay showed, we got the idea of what had happened, but the production team has to take a hit here for whatever that was at the end. Functionally, this was a solid tag match with two tiny underdogs doing everything they could to battle the much larger champs. We do have to point out that there were two consecutive belt shot finishes, though. I enjoyed it a bunch. 3.25*

Chris Carter vs El Carnicero

Carnicero just murders poor Carter and fires off a bunch of forearms before launching Carter over in a backdrop. Carnicero yanks Carter up for a press slam all the way to the floor. Carnicero runs Carter into the ring post and tossed back in for a massive chokeslam. Carnicero smashes Carter’s head into the mat and the ref calls for the bell.

Yeah, exactly what you’d expect here. 1*

Winner – El Carnicero

Carnicero continues the attack and Dave the Clown and Murder Clown charge out to break things up. Carnicero wrecks both of the Clowns before Psycho Clown comes down with a kendo stick to whale away on Carnicero. Carnicero bails but doesn’t go down. Psycho grabs a mic and challenges Carnicero for a street fight at TripleMania.

AAA Cruiserweight Championship Number One Contender’s Match: Jack Cartwheel vs Nathan Frazer vs Mini Vikingo

Expect flips here, friends. There’s a triple handshake to start and off we go. There’s a bunch of acrrobatics to start and Cartwheel grabs a double crucifix for two. Frazer gets dumped by Cartwheel who gets rolled up by Vikingo. Cartwheel grabs an armlock and Vikingo slips out of it quickly. There’s a standoff with both guys missing moonsaults. Frazer flies back in with a double missile dropkick and wallops Vikingo with chops. Frazer beats up Cartwheel in a corner as the pace has slowed considerably. Vikingo dumps Cartwheel and eats a huge dropkick from Frazer. Frazer grabs a cover for two. Carthweel is back and he snaps off a headscissors takedown on Frazer. Frazer blasts Vikingo with a lariat and eats a huge lariat from Cartwheel. Cartwheel mashes Vikingo with a dropkick and covers him for two.

Cartwheel hoists Vikingo up but he slips off and drops Cartwheel with a reverse thrust. Vikingo blasts Frazer with a roundhouse and ascends. Vikingo hits a frog splash and covers Frazer for two. Vikingo drops Frazer to the floor with a dropkick and it’s time to fly. Vikingo hits a monster torneo on Frazer and Cartwheel. Carthweel fires up and he and Vikingo battle it out along the barricade and ring steps. Cartwheel flips over the ring steps and Frazer flies in with a lariat on Vikingo. Frazer mashes Carthweel with a Spanish Fly from the steps to the floor and everyone is down. Frazer drags Vikingo back in and there’s a superkick exchange. Frazer hits an inverted Spanish Fly and covers Vikingo for two. Cartwheel re-enters with a Slam Stand on Frazer and then yanks Frazer into a crucifix bomb that gets two. Cartwheel drops Vikingo and stomps on him before crushing him with a double stomp that gets two. Carthweel mounts Vikingo on a top turnbuckle and Frazer flies in. Cartwheel powerbombs Frazer down and eats an immediate crucifix driver from Vikingo.

Vikingo eats a roundhouse from Frazer and he topples to the floor. Frazer ascends and Cartwheel waffles him with a double kick. Cartwheel ascends and crushes Vikingo with a Sky Twister. Frazer mashes Carthweel into the ring steps with a dropkick and crushes both opponents with a tope con hilo. Frazer ascends and crushes Cartwheel with a frog splash that gets two. Cartwheel hits a bridging German on Frazer for two. Carthweel yanks Frazer up and Vikingo flies in with a double stomp on Frazer. Carthweel and Vikingo kick each other and Cartwheel lands on Frazer for a two count. There’s a three way slugfest when everyone rises and Cartwheel ends up alone in the ring. Cartwheel hits a back handspring Space Flying Tiger Drop and ascends. Frazer springs up for a superplex and covers Cartwheel for two.

Frazer ascends again and Vikingo springs up for a Spanish Fly. Vikingo ascends and Cartwheel catches him with a kaman giri. Frazer flies in with a kick of his own and Cartwheel gets a roll up on Frazer for two. Cartwheel mashes Vikingo with a splash for two. Frazer misses a Phoenix splash but drops Cartwheel with a facebuster. There’s a bunch of big moves and the bell sounds without a winner. We have a time limit draw at 20 minutes.

Here’s Rey Fenix out with a microphone as you can tell where this is going to go. Fenix tells the crowd and the wrestlers that they were incredible. Fenix says he’s excited for the upcoming shows and at TripleMania he wants to face all three competitors from this match. This will take place at the Mexico City portion of the show.

I enjoyed this but it felt maybe a bit anticlimactic to go with the time limit draw into the four-way. I thought Cartwheel stood out here a bunch, and Vikingo kind of felt like an afterthought at times. This was fun, but I would have liked to have seen a finish. 3.25*

Time Limit Draw – No Winner

AAA Latin American Championship Fatal Four-Way: El Fiscal vs El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Damian Priest vs La Parka

All the lucha guys decide to team up to go after Priest. They drive him to the floor where he’s mashed by a Fiscal tope. Fiscal and Parka go at it before Fiscal drops DW3 off the apron. Parka hits a backbreaker on Fiscal for two. Priest flies back in and smashes everyone around before Priest does his rope-walk splash on Parka and Fiscal. Pries runs wild and hits a big flying elbow on everyone. Priest kicks Fiscal down and yanks Parka up for a Falcon Arrow for two. Priest claps Parka’s ears and then drops him with a facebuster for two. DW3 drops Fiscal to the floor and he and Priest slug it out a bit. DW3 hits a brainbuster on Priest and flies out to drop Fiscal with a cannonball. DW3 ascends for a big splash on Priest that gets two.

DW3 yanks off his elbow pad and gets run over by a charging Fiscal. Priest eats some Fiscal kicks and Fiscal splashes DW3 for two. Fiscal boots Parka but runs into an Exploder from Parka. Parak hits a moonsault on Fiscal and then goes back in for a double knee drop on DW3. Parka covers and gets two. DW3 fires up and battles it out with Fiscal and DW3. Priest re-enters and blasts DW3 with a lariat as everyone is down. Fiscal mashes Priest with knees and that only fires him up. Priest calls for WEPA TIME and everyone fires up. Parka ascends for a Spanish Fly on DW3, as Fiscal grabs a roll up on DW3 for two. Priest yanks up Fiscal for a Razor’s Edge. Priest hits the same move on DW3 and drops the straps. Priest hits South of Heaven on DW3 and Parka breaks up the cover at two. Parka yanks up Fiscal for the Bonebreaker and covers Fiscal for three!

That’s an unexpected result right there! Good for La Parka on capturing the LA title as most of us had either Priest or DW3 winning this. This was a hell of a battle and everyone was physical as hell as this went along. No complaints with this one and I liked the shocking result. 3.5*

Winner AND NEW AAA Latin American Champion – La Parka (Bonebreaker on Fiscal)

Here’s AAA GM Rey Mysterio out for the Mega Championship contract signing, as Andrea Bazarte joins the announce team for translation purposes. Mysterio puts over TripleMania’s history and how it is truly the biggest event in lucha every year. The Mega Championship is the title that represents the pinnacle of wrestling, and that’s why Mysterio is proud to present this historic matchup.

Here’s AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio out with Dorian Roldan to a chorus of boos. Roldan tells Rey that before he continues Roldan needs a word about Omos’s suspension. Rey says there’s very little left to say, and Dom grabs a mic. Dom tells Rey he doesn’t know what he has against him but Omos doesn’t deserve to pay the price. Roldan suggests that he was meant to be doing the talking here. Roldan makes a case for Omos and says that Omos wants to apologize for his actions. Rey considers this and says thanks but no thanks. Dom takes over and says that he told Roldan this would happen and they’re wasting time with this. Rey again re-affirms his no answer and says now Dom will have to put his title on the line against El Grande Americano. EGA enters to a raucous response. Dom is bored and takes a seat while EGA soaks in some cheers. EGA is in a mood and squares up to Dom before getting some more cheers. Rey asks EGA if he’s got anything to say and EGA pauses for a chant. EGA tells Dom that since he won the Mega title he hasn’t shut up about being the king of the luchadores. EGA says he’s going to find out in Mexico City who the real king is. EGA signs the contract and slams it down on Dom’s side of the table. Dom says if Rey isn’t man enough to lift Omos’s suspension, then he won’t defend the title at TripleMania. Rey tells Dom he’s absolutely defending the title or he will be stripped. EGA fires up and says he must win for his people and for Mexico and doesn’t want it like this. Rey tells EGA that this is blackmail and EGA says let’s just do this right now. Here’s Omos coming through the crowd and Rey calls for Security before stopping Omos at the barricade. Omos pulls out a ticket and pats Rey on the head. Omos sits down and Rey turns back to attack Omos. EGA flies out and prevents Rey from continuing, but he escapes and continues pounding on Omos. Dom flies in from behind and mashes EGA into the ring steps. Dom finds a chair and and runs EGA back in. Dom crushes EGA with a bunch of chairshots before ducking out to the floor. Rey calls for calm and tells Dom that he’s right about Omos. Rey says if Omos can go through him he can come back to AAA and challenges him for Las Vegas. If Omos wins, he’s back in AAA, but if Rey wins Omos is gone forever. EGA questions Rey about this plan and Dom signs the contract before whipping it back into the ring.

Los Perros del Mal (Daga, Berto, and Angel) vs Penta, Dragon Lee, and AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix

Karmen Petrovic is out with Los Perros. It’s Angel and Lee to startthings and there’s a cover exchange before Fenix and Berto get tags. Berto clubbers away and we end up with a stand off. Daga and Angel charge over and start pounding on Penta and Lee as Los Perros drag Fenix to their corner for a triple team. Daga tosses Fenix into a corner post and covers him for two. Daga gets a blind tag from Angel who drops a charging Fenix to the floor. Petrovic blasts Fenix with a kick and Angel flies in with one of his own. Angel’s cover gets two. Berto tags in and he mashes Fenix along the ropes before Angel nails Fenix with a kick as Berto distracts the ref. Fenix fires up and there’s a kick exchange that Berto wins. Fenix fights his way out of Los Perros corner but Daga and Berto make sure there’s no one for him to tag.

Berto hits a shotgun dropkick and covers Fenix for two. Angel tags in and Fenix again fires up before tagging in Penta. Penta runs wild before tagging in Lee. Lee drops Berto and Daga to the floor and then tosses Penta into a corner double stomp on Angel. Lee hits a basement dropkick and Petrovic breaks up the cover. Lee hits a German and a superkick on Angel before crushing him with a wrecking ball dropkick. Daga crushes Lee with a dropkick and runs into a Lee high boot when he charges. Daga snaps Lee down and covers him for two.

Penta gets a tag and squares off with Daga. Penta hits a rana and Daga eats a big series of chops and slaps. Daga fires back and they drop each other with simultaneous kicks. Fenix and Berto get tags and Berto crushes Fenix with a springboard kick. Fenix fires off a high boot and nails Berto with a rolling cutter. Angel charges in to fight with Lee and Angel crushes Lee with a knee strike before running into a big boot from Lee. They go up and Angel slips down into the Tree of Woe for a Lee double stomp. Everyone hits big moves before Berto yanks Fenix into a sit-out powerbomb that gets two. There’s a Pier Six that ends with topes from Penta and Lee on Angel and Daga. Berto misses a dive and gets caught by a superkick from Fenix. Fenix crushes Berto with the Mexican Muscle Buster and that finishes things.

I went into this thinking that Los Perros had a real shot to win this through shenanigans, but with a huge emphasis on Penta and Fenix’s big match on Raw, they went with the heroes winning. This didn’t have as much heat as I was thinking it might but it was still fun as hell. 3.25*

Winners – Penta/Fenix/Lee (Fenix MMB on Berto)

Post-match sees the grumpy Los Perros continue the attack as the credits roll and we’re out.

This was a solid show from start to finish. I really liked the women’s Gauntlet and the Latin American title matches. The three-way Cruiserweight match was fun but had a bit of a letdown finish with the time limit draw. Everything is starting to line up for TripleMania. The main event delivered but maybe not at the level I was hoping for – that’s not a huge deal as everyone worked hard and got through it. A fun show all around and now we move on to TripleMania and the big WWE Raw and Smackdown shows in Mexico City.
