WWE Main Event – 9.17.26

This week, Main Event really feels like an exciting show and I’m not just saying that as the Main Event fangirl. We have the Main Event debuts of Joe Hendry, Ethan Page and Kyoki as well an appearance of Main Event’s MVPs Alpha Academy. Three big matches are on for an international edition of the big Thursday night show, so let’s dive in.

Kyoki (with Shinsuke Nakamura) vs Kit Wilson (with The Miz)

This is the third WWE match ever for Kyoki and of course his first match on Main Event. Kit Wilson is 1-3 on the show this year, losing a few weeks ago to Matt Cardona in an injury-shortened match for Cardona. Let’s talk about their partners! Shinsuke last competed on the December 13, 2025, episode of this show with a win. His opponent? Kit Wilson. That’s also his only time competing on Main Event in his WWE run. The Miz has been around longer than the entire show, first appearing on the third ever episode where he lost his Intercontinental Championship to Kofi Kingston. Yes, important things happened on this show once upon a time. His last time competing on this show might surprise you as you have to go all the way back to the December 23, 2015, episode where he lost to Jack Swagger.

The Mexico City crowd gives Kit a very good response, chanting along with him and continuing to be generally amazing. I have never watched a Kyoki match, so we’ll see what we get here with one of my personal favorites, Cute Kit. Kit chops Kyoki and takes a lap around the ring, playing to the fans. Kit tosses his shirt at Kyoki who puts it in his mouth and chews on it. Alright. Kit lays in a big chop and Kyoki asks for another. Kit obliges and Kyoki responds with his own, taking Kit down. Kit dodges out and Kit dodges him. They have a new ring apron for Main Event this week! It is a nice deep red with the Main Event logo.

Back in, Kyoki hits a neckbreaker for a near fall as commentary discusses the possibility of Miz and Kit still being cursed, Vic pointing to the Browns as a sign of the curse still existing. The fans chant “si” Danielson-style for Kit as he works a headlock before Kyoki dropkicks him to the outside. Kyoki stomps on the steel steps and dives off the apron, dropkicking Kit into the barricade. Kyoki lands Falcons Arrow and Kit kicks out, Kyoki doing his own version of Kit’s taunt. Kit hits a neckbreaker and covers, the fans chanting loudly along with the pin attempt. Kit tries for the Men Cry Too dive from the top, Kyoki dodges. Miz hops on the apron and the referee doesn’t see due to Nakamura distracting him on the apron. Kit accidentally hits Miz, Kyoki pulls Kit into a front stunner for the three.

Kyoki pins Kit Wilson. I quite enjoyed this. First, it is weird having a crowd care so much about a Main Event match and I’d like every Main Event to be in Mexico City. Kit got some well deserved flowers from the crowd and Kyoki is interesting, I dig him.

Post-match shenanigans! Miz tries for a Skull Crushing Finale on Kyoki, Kyoki drops him with the front stunner and Shinsuke smashes Miz with the Kinshasa.

LWO (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro) vs Alpha Academy (Otis and Akira Tozawa)

Two of Main Event’s most frequent teams face off! LWO were here just last week, defeating Shido Ash and Victor Kanov. It was their sixth match on the show in 2026 and they are on a three match Main Event winning streak. Alpha Academy as at team are 4-0 on Main Event in 2026, last defeating BirthRight back in May. Individually, Otis is 2-1 on the show this year (last defeating Harlem Lewis in June) and Akira Tozawa is 1-3 for the year (last defeating the recently released Jasper Troy last month).

Now to tie in an actual storyline – something we don’t do often here on the A-show – you may remember that the LWO teased a breakup at night one of TripleMania back on Friday. Well, they’re still together thus far and seem to be fine. I imagine we’ll figure this one out on Lucha Libre AAA in the weeks to come. Vic gives us the breaking news that Miz and Kit are okay after the attack earlier in the show. The crowd is very loud for Alpha Academy as well as Vic points out the very large bruise on the arm of Otis thanks to the attack of The Vision a few weeks ago. Otis and Del Toro start things off, Del Toro trying for a German suplex and Otis grinding his way out of it before making the tag to Tozawa. Tozawa hits a nice flying headscissors on Del Toro and rips his shirt to a thunderous applause. What a show. Wilde tags in and stomps at Tozawa in the corner, the crowd very loud towards Wilde after his TripleMania weekend. The fans chant for Tozawa as he battles out of a headlock and tries for the hot tag, Del Toro knocking Otis off the apron and working Tozawa’s head. Tozawa stuns Del Toro who tags in Wilde again, Tozawa still not able to make it to Otis.

Tozawa chops away at both LWO men who spring him in the air, he comes down with a double DDT and makes the hot tag at last to the electric crowd’s delight. Otis runs through both men, tossing WIlde into Del Toro and smashing him with a big slam. He rips the shirt and the caterpillar has returned to Main Event. Big Otis tags in Tozawa who drops a giant backdrop onto Wilde and covers for the pin.

Alpha Academy defeat LWO when Akira Towawa pins Joaquin Wilde. I can’t tell you enough how much a molten hot crowd adds to a regular match. A hyped crowd before the big show begins watching beloved favorites is a treat.

Joe Hendry vs Ethan Page

Say his name and he appears on Main Event. The last time these two met in singles action, Page defeated Hendry at No Mercy 2024 to retain the NXT Title. This is the Main Event debut for both men. Yes, the Arena CDMX crowd sing along with Joe’s theme song. Joe is sporting a shiner on his left eye and is also bruised under his right eye, I assume something he picked up over the South American tour before Mexico City. Vic discusses Hendry and Page being the faces of an era on NXT as Hendry hits a big neckbreaker on Page. Ethan pulls Hendry into the turnbuckle and lands a big knee to the face and works him over with punches to loud booing.

As Page works over the Hendry, the fans chant Hendry’s name loudly. Ethan locks in a sleeper, Hendry working back to his feet, pulling Ethan around and suplexing him. Hendry has some very sneaky upper body strength that you don’t think about. Joe hits a fallaway slam and then the Hit Single, a big discus, that can only get him a two count. Hendry sets up a Rock Bottom, Page pushes him towards referee Jessika Carr and pulls Hendry into a rollup with a hand full of tights, sneaking out the win.

Ethan Page pins Joe Hendry. Again, a good match elevated by the crowd. These two are very good together.

Easily the best episode of Main Event I’ve reviewed and the best of the year. The Arena CDMX crowd made Main Event feel just as big as they made Raw feel and that was for Alpha Academy and Kit Wilson. Find yourself a spare twenty minutes and watch the entire show.
