Evening Daily News Update – May 2, 2026
By Kat Bourne on 2 May 2026
Happy Saturday evening!
We had a big news story today as we have four new WWE departures. Two of those were Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston of New Day. It has since been reported that TKO asked them to renegotiate their deals and they declined, leading to the release. Fightful is also reporting that they will have the usual 90-day clause in their deal. The other two leaving the company are JC Mateo and Tonga Loa of the MFTs.
Tonight, AEW presents Collision at 8 p.m. ET on TNT and HBO Max with three title matches. Kevin Knight is defending the TNT Title against Hook, Willow Nightingale is defending the TBS Title against Anna Jay and Jack Perry defends his National Title against Mascara Dorada. There’s a big ten-man tag on the card as well.
WWE presents Lucha Libre AAA at 10 p.m. ET on FOX One in Latin America and right here on YouTube internationally. The Grande Americanos will sign their contract for the mask versus mask match while El Hijo del Vikingo battles Mini Vikingo and Laredo Kid faces Rey Fenix.
It’s not often I get to plug my own stuff on the weekends, but I had to push back the SmackDown Rewind this week to Saturday. If you want to read about the first McMahon-Helmsley Christmas, this is for you. If you prefer 2026 SmackDown over 1999 SmackDown, Niz has you covered with his review of last night’s show featuring the death of the Gingerbread Man.
Danhausen Offers $400 to Prospective Backlash Partners
The very nice, very evil wrestler has offered a cash prize to potential partners like Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Naked Mideon.
The Gingerbread Man Killed on SmackDown By Sami Zayn
This was going to be my leading story and image before the release news happened. We send our best wishes to the family of the Gingerbread Man as well as his dear friend Trick Williams. A funeral will be held next week on SmackDown.
That’s your Saturday scoop. Head on into the comments down below and discuss your favorite New Day moments, Collision, or how the Braves are continuing their hot streak. Mean Mike will be back with your morning news, and I’ll see you tomorrow night for more headlines. I leave you tonight with one of my favorite things, New Day and Sasha Banks dancing to Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose.”
