Mike Books WWF Shotgun Saturday Night 1st May 1999
By Michael Fitzgerald on 21 February 2024
Happy Wednesday Everyone!
We’re continuing on with booking Shotgun. If you’ve been following these then I hope you’re enjoying them, and if you’d like to get up to date on previous editions you can do so by checking the archives. I will post a recap of last week’s show down below the break line as well.
Hopefully ya’ll have some fun whilst we book some Shotgun!
Last week on Shotgun;
Tiger Ali Singh cheated his way to a victory over D-Lo Brown
Droz and Prince Albert squashed Don DeSilva and Scotty Zappa
Val Venis looked set to get the better of Bradshaw in a scuffled until The Ministry attacked him
The Hardy Boyz and The Road Dogg defeated Too Much and The Blue Meanie
Al Snow defeated 8-Ball of DOA with a Head shot
And with you all brought up to speed, let’s move on to this week’s show!
This taping took place on the 26th of April 1999 from Hartford, Connecticut
Episode aired on the 1st of May 1999
Three Shows were held;
Super Astros Taping
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=16282
Shotgun Taping
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=36174
Live Raw
https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=2818
Another three show taping then, which is better than four shows I suppose. No offence intended to Super Astros, but I’ll be kind of glad when it’s gone as it will make these tapings shorter and it will also free up a few folks like Papi Chulo and Sho Funaki for Shotgun.
Show Intro
We get the opening credits and then the announce team run us through what we can expect to see on tonight’s edition of Shotgun.

Segment 1
Jacqueline w/ Terri Runnels and Ryan Shamrock Vs Tori
We open Shotgun up with some women’s action, as Jackie takes on Tori, with the Pretty Mean Sisters at ringside. Runnels and Shamrock will get involved in the match at points by getting a cheap shot etc during the heat segment, but Tori will end up making the big comeback and take them out. However, this will leave her open to an attack from Jackie, with a big DDT ending things soon after. Jackie’s win is ever-so-slightly south of clean, with Tori paying for her desires to get one over on her tormentors rather than focusing on the task at hand.

Segment 2
Pre-Taped backstage promo with Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor)
Too Much have been feuding with The Hardy Boyz for weeks and state that they want to bring the issue to a close next week on Shotgun. Will The Hardyz accept?

Segment 3
Sunday Night HeAT Recap
This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of HeAT, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of HeAT but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

11 Minutes total for Taping out of an available 45
Segment 4
In-Ring promo segment with Tiger Ali Singh
Singh gloats about his win over D-Lo Brown last week to annoy the crowd, but this brings out Brown’s friend Ivory, who chastises Tiger for bragging about such a cheap victory. Tiger insults Ivory, but because he is distracted by that he doesn’t notice Brown entering the ring from the other side. Ivory tells Tiger to turn around, and he duly does into the Sky High from Brown. Brown preps for the Lo-Down Frogsplash following that, but Tiger is able to roll away and flee. Brown gets a measure of revenge, but there are still issues to settle.

Monday Night Raw Recap
This is a segment reserved for recapping the notable events of the most recent episode of Raw, seeing as this is a weekend syndicated show at the end of the day, whilst Raw and HeAT are the main two shows of the week. This segment exists not only to recap the previous episode of Raw but also as a way to hype up and advertise any matches or segments that have been announced for the next episode.

Segment 6
The Inferno Kid Vs The Road Dogg
This is just a squash win for Road Dogg here on Shotgun, as he can come out to pop the crowd with his usual spiel and then pick up a quick victory to pad his record. Nothing more than that really, but hopefully the crowd will enjoy seeing him.
4 Minutes Total for Segment. 2 Minutes for the Match. 2 Minutes for Entrance
21 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45
Segment 7
Pre-Tape promo with The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff)
The Hardyz accept the challenge for next week on Shotgun, and also demand that the bout be contested under Two out of Three Falls so that can be no doubt as to who the better team is. What a big match for Shotgun next week!

Segment 8
Pay Per View Centre
This is where we let Dok Hendrix hype up the upcoming pay per view. If any matches are already announced then he can hype them here, and if we’re still waiting for any of the real meat of the pay per view to be advertised then we can look back at previous events in order to pad the segment out.

24 Minutes Total for Taping out of an available 45
Segment 9
Mideon w/ Viscera Vs Christian
This will be a continuation of the issues between The Ministry and The Brood, with the added wrinkle of Val Venis making his presence felt. Venis will run down to get into a brawl with Viscera, which will understandably distract Mideon. As the sight of his partner and rival doing battle take away Mideon’s focus, Christian will see the opening to hit the Killswitch and pick up the three count. Post-match, Venis will taunt both Mideon and Viscera whilst they throw a collective tantrum in the ring after being shown up in such a manner.

Segment 10
Live Event Centre
This is where Dok Hendrix hypes up the next big event coming to YOUR local area. So it’s a long day for the poor sod in the recording booth, but we need to slip that stuff in on the syndicated show.

Segment 10
Owen Hart Vs TAKA Michinoku
We have a big International Dream Match to close us out this week on Shotgun, as Canada clashes with Japan. Owen had experience of working overseas, and he would likely be jazzed at the idea to get some time to work a good match with a talented guy like TAKA, so this match should be good fun. Eventually Owen will pick up the clean win, but TAKA will no doubt get a chance to shine first and this should end up being a match that tape traders of the time will be desperately scouring the internet for, and will likely find it’s way to an official DVD set or two.

End of Show
Outside of the Main Event, the in-ring portion of this week’s Shotgun isn’t likely to set the world on fire, but when you’ve got a Main Event that good to lean on, you can take a little bit more time to present angles and shorter matches elsewhere on the card. Next week we’ve finally got a conclusion to the feud between Too Much and The Hardyz, whilst I’m sure there are more chapters to the storylines featuring Tiger/D-Lo and Ministry/Venis.
Next week it’s going to be Too Much Vs The Hardyz in Two out of Three Falls, so you won’t want to miss that one!
Anyway, that’s us done for another week. We’ll pick things up again next week and see where the stories take us.
Hopefully I’ll see you all next week for more Shotgun!
