What was the deal with the WCW vs New Japan stuff for Starrcade 95? Seemed totally out of character especially once the Nitro era started. Was this something they had planned long beforehand and couldn't get out of it? Also was that the reason Sasaki
got the US Title from Sting?

Yeah it was a deal from beforehand and the US title change was a part of it. New Japan really got boned on it.
