The Index/Reigns Scenario
By Scott Keith on 25th August 2021
So I have to think how the whole Index wedding plays out and how to use it to end the abortion that is the Roman Reigns experiment.
Brock comes back and bends the knee to Heyman, which makes Roman jealous because he doesn't want Paul focusing on anyone else but him. Meanwhile, Raw and Smackdown both start pimping the Index wedding and Reigns in particular, becomes super fucking jealous that Dexter's getting promoted by the company and bruising Roman's fragile ass ego. His logic is that he's the head of the table and jealousy that Dexter starting his own family plus Dexter's popularity and the fact that Roman secretly lusts after Indie (having grown tired of his wife), leads Roman to make his most villainous move yet.
So Roman crashes the wedding and kidnaps Indie. And, to explain away Candice's impending departure due to her pregnancy, we find out that (off-camera) he brutalized Candice when Candice tried to stop Roman from kidnapping Indie. Complete with say, William Regal giving a monologue about how he watched Candice hold off the Usos AND Brock Lesner single handedly until Roman cheap shot her from behind with a sledgehammer and then brutalized him while the Usos used Indie as a hostage to keep Regal and others from getting near Candice to rescue her.
With Indie now being held captive by Roman and Candice badly injured, Gargano and Dexter BOTH put aside their differences and become bash brothers to take down Brock and Roman. They join the Smackdown roster, leaving NXT behind along with Austin Theory, who gets the “you can't go with us, it's too dangerous” speech from Gargano as the two men go to Smackdown.
Paul manages to have Indie declared mentally incompetent and Roman named her legal guardian and moved around from location to location so Dexter can't find her. He furthermore demands that Dexter has to beat Brock before he can challenge Roman, which pisses off Brock that he's been reduced to henchman fodder that he manipulates shit so that Gargano gets a shot first at Roman. Roman brutally curb stomps Gargano, adding to the tension as Dexter must now man up and beat Brock (which he does).
Brock's defeat sews massive tension between Roman and Brock, as Roman starts physically and emotionally abusing Brock and Paul taking Roman's side against Brock.
Dexter finally gets a match with Roman, with Brock getting revenge by freeing Indie and arranging for her to get to the arena when Roman and Dexter are fighting. Indie keeps Paul from interfering when Dexter easily manhandles Roman at the start of the match and ultimately Dexter wins both the SD belt but also reunites with Indie. Meanwhile, Dexter shows cruel mercy to Roman, refusing to kick him (though letting Indie get in a couple of kicks to the face on Roman) while Roman's down but then comes Brock, who absolutely MASSACRES Roman in the ring as Dexter and Indie leave the ring.
And then, Nick Khan serves Roman with his termination papers and we never see him again.
Dexter and to a lesser extent Johnny Gargano both get made into big named stars, Brock gets a storyline with actual teeth and pathos (him slowly turning on Paul after realizing that Heyman sold him out for Roman), and Roman gets defeated in definitive fashion and written off once and for all with an ending that not only makes a new fucking star (Dexter Lumis) but also the Roman Reigns experiment a definitive ending with assurances that the WWE will never force people to deal with him ever again.
Yeah.
