Austin’s Heel Turn

> In numerous interviews since Austin retired he has stated how he regretted turning heel at WM X7, and should have called an audible and given Vince a Stunner after the main event. Yet after the invasion storyline began, they had a story of Vince wanting the old Stone Cold back to fight WCW leading to a monster babyface pop on the Raw where Austin attacked the WCW guys. Why did they turn him back heel after seemingly being given a mulligan on the heel turn? They could have logically turned The Rock heel when he came back if they felt that team WCW needed the star power, and I’m sure The Rock could have pulled it off.

There was a LOT of other stuff going on with the potential WCW launch and that really contributed to the general disorganization of the time. You might say they needed to rebook the Invasion?
