Questions

By Scott Keith on 22 April 2016

1) I’ve read over and over about how dysfunctional WCW was, but I watched Nitro religiously from 1997-1999, and about two thirds of the show featured good wrestling, angles that made sense, and likeable characters. But of course that was the undercard. Why the huge discrepancy in quality? Did they have two different teams of writers and bookers?

2) From what I remember about 2004, Lesnar’s departure came as a surprise to WWE. Was he originally supposed to beat Goldberg, who everyone knew was leaving?

1. Kind of, yes. Hogan had complete creative control and Bischoff only really gave a shit about the main eventers, so the undercard stuff would tend to be handled by other people on the booking committee, yes. It wasn’t two different teams so much as it was Hogan & Bischoff handling the "important" stuff themselves.

2. Yes, he was supposed to win, and then Brock’s departure meant that Vince just HAD to job him as some sort of message.
