Why didn’t Diesel go over Bret at Royal Rumble ’95?

By Scott Keith on 4 December 2015

All of a sudden, with no build or hype, Nash was champion. Didn’t he need a win at RR95 to legitimize himself? Especially with Wrestlemania right around the corner. And what’s the point of protecting Bret? To keep him strong for his upcoming feuds against ninjas, dentists, and pirates?

No, it was more about doing "storytelling" bullshit where they respect each other and fans suddenly start buying tickets to see Diesel v. Bob Backlund main events because Bret thinks he’s an OK guy. Meltzer buried it as a ridiculous finish at the time that would completely fail, and time has definitely proven that one true.
