I just needed a break from mourning the Hulkster! OK not really.
Taped from Charlotte, NC
Your host is Bob Caudle
Meanwhile, at a house show in the Charlotte coliseum, Jimmy Valiant faces Jos LeDuc and things are going pretty badly for him, with both guys busted open as LeDuc keeps hitting him with an international object and Jimmy keeps kicking out. Finally Jimmy knocks the object out of his hand and steals it for himself, knocks LeDuc out, and drops the elbow on him and pins him for the win.
Sweet Brown Sugar & Dizzy Hogan v. Rick Harris & Ken Timbs
Sugar works on Ricky’s arm, and it’s over to young Dizzy Hogan, who looks like he could use a good barber to tame his mop of blond hair. Over to Timbs, but the babyfaces trap him in the corner and Sugar puts him in a chinlock, but the heels double-team Sugar until he comes back with a suplex on Timbs. Sugar with dropkicks and Dizzy puts him away with a powerslam at 2:52.
Hey so all of a sudden I’m getting spammed with ads on these Peacock catalog shows and this is some bullshit. On the bright side, I know where to go for ED medication at least.
Greg Valentine v. Mike Davis
Valentine is US champion, and he works on Davis with slams while Dick Slater joins us on commentary to put Valentine over. Valentine hits Davis with a knee to the gut and drops a knee on him while Slater assures us that he’s 100% trustworthy and Valentine is his friend for life. Also Roddy Piper has no guts. Valentine tosses Davis to the floor and Slater goes over to throw him back in the ring again, and then heads back to the desk to relate a story about getting bitten by a dog, and the dog died. Davis mounts a comeback and Greg drops him with a stungun and then finishes with a pair of big elbows at 4:00. Also Dick Slater reveals that he’s fired Oliver Humperdink and he’ll be handling business for One Man Gang moving forward.
Dizzy Hogan joins Bob at the desk, doing a very soft-spoken generic babyface promo. Thankfully he doesn’t butcher any lines.
Bodyslam Challenge: One Man Gang has $5000 if either King Parsons or Vinnie Valentino can slam him, but neither guy can even get his feet off the mat. So they both try at the same time and Gang fights them both off. But while Dick Slater is busy yelling at the failed contestants, Jimmy Valiant sneaks in and grabs the cash out of Slater’s hand and leaves.
Meanwhile, Dusty Rhodes tells us all about fussin and feudin with the Funk family, and now he’s gonna take up Dory Funk Jr on his offer of $100,000 if anyone can pin him. And Dusty admits that he needs the money, so he’s gonna take a run at it, since he’s already pinned Dory Sr and Terry and Dory Jr before.
Back at the studio, Dory complains that Dusty works for FLORIDA, not Mid-Atlantic, and it’s a conspiracy against him. Dory’s hair was a conspiracy against him. Also Dick Slater is very upset about having his $5000 stolen by Jimmy Valiant while the Gang yells in the background.
Last week: Roddy Piper apologizes for missing shows lately, but Dick Slater interrupts and they get into a giant brawl.
Dick Slater v. Dick Benfield
Slater chops him down and tosses him to the floor, and Greg Valentine returns the favor from earlier and tosses Benfield back into the ring before heading over to do commentary. Slater drops a knee on the guy, who is barely able to take simple bumps it seems like, and Slater hits him with a back suplex before putting him against the ropes and slugging him out to the floor. Greg tosses him back in again and Slater hits him with a piledriver while yelling for Piper, and then picks him up at one, punishes the back some more, and finishes with a Boston crab at 3:30. I’ve never even heard of this Benfield guy so I’m guessing he didn’t stick around the business.
Oh man more ED medication commercials! I guess they must have realized I was watching Dizzy ED Hogan.
Roddy Piper joins us to discuss his crazy brawl with Slater last week. He doesn’t care if the NWA fines him, because he’s not gonna stand down when some geek like Slater gets in his face and kicks him in the shins. And Slater thinks he’s crazy, but he ain’t seen nothing next to Piper.
Meanwhile, on Georgia Championship Wrestling, Ric Flair faces Pat Rose and gets a pretty good workout before finishing with the figure-four.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Slaughter & Don Kernodle are now accusing Steamboat & Youngblood of stealing Slaughter’s favorite hat!
And then we join a squash win for Slaughter & Kernodle in progress for some reason, and even stranger it’s from what appears to be December of 82.
Meanwhile, Steamboat & Youngblood reveal that they’ve got someone helping them learn the cobra clutch and escape it, from someone Slaughter might know! But they don’t know where the hat is.
Sweet Brown Sugar and Gerry Brisco are doing a thrilling promo where Sugar is basically just naming heels, but Jimmy Valiant suddenly bursts in and gives people Slater’s money while dancing with Sugar, and Piper rants while getting drowned out by the WWE Network overdubbing Valiant’s music. And then Piper and Valiant go into the audience and party with the crowd to wrap up the show.
Thank god they got rid of Humperdink. One of the most annoying one note heel managers they had.
