And now it’s time for ROUND TWO of the light heavyweight tournament as my marathon of reviews before vacation continues!

Thankfully this edit omits the first 10 minutes of recaps completely.

Chaz v. The Lightning Kid

And we’re off and running. The Kid backflips into the ring and takes Chaz down for a ride on the mat before Chaz escapes. Kid’s red and yellow Flash-inspired gear is pretty awesome and it’s too bad he never really went back to it in the WWF. They trade wristlocks and Chaz goes to a headlock and works on that, then flips out of Kid’s reversal attempt and dropkicks him into a bulldog for two. Kid puts him down with a legsweep and tosses Chaz, following with a somersault tope and then back in the ring for a corner dropkick. Kid with a chinlock and Chaz fights out of that, so Kid hits a northern lights suplex for two instead. Chaz with a bodypress for two, but Kid beats him down again and goes to another chinlock. We take a break and return right where we left, before Kid puts him down with a pair of high kicks. Kid with a floatover suplex for two. Kid misses a blind charge and bumps out of the corner like his usual crazy self, but they slug it out and Chaz backdrops him. Powerslam gets two. High cross gets two. Kid catches him with a leg lariat out of the corner and follows with a backdrop driver for two, but he picks Chaz up at two. Chaz with a sunset flip off that for two, but Kid puts him down with a fameasser and follows with a leg lariat. Kid with the tombstone, and that finishes at 9:35 to advance. DAMN. This was the kind of match that would circulate on a compilation tape back in the day. ***1/2.

Newsroom with Joe Pedicino! Who is the Cartel? Who is the Boss? No one knows. This is a stretch for “news”. Also Stan Lane is looking for a new partner for the tag team tournament that is upcoming.

The Handsome Stranger v. Rip Rogers

The announcers compare the Stranger’s crowd reaction to that of “Elvis and the Beatles back in the day”. Fun fact, they were actually talking about a short-lived cover band called “Elvis and the Beatles” who once played two shows in Muncie, IN at a local bar in the late 60s before sued out of existence by Brian Epstein. Rip gets some shots in the corner, but the Stranger fights back with chops and a dropkick for two. Rip chokes him out on the ropes to take over and drops an elbow, while Rasta the Voodoo Mon joins us at ringside. Rogers with a suplex for two, but the Stranger gets his own suplex for two. Rip clotheslines him for two, but the Stranger makes a comeback and rams Rip into the turnbuckles before finishing with the fisherman’s suplex at 6:29. Rip was pretty much holding Buff’s hand through the whole match but it was an acceptable outing. **

Meanwhile, the Cartel announces that they’re not gonna announce the newest member of the Cartel yet and then they walk off.

The Handsome Stranger chats with Boni, who asks why he wears a mask. He doesn’t really answer. But he does like to leave tokens of esteem with his ladies. Yeah Buff left a lot of “tokens of esteem” in ladies back in the day. Kind of shocked he didn’t end up with his own family of wrestlers like Rikishi.

Mike Davis v. Brian Adias

They trade hammerlocks to start after some stalling and Adias takes him down with a headlock, prompting Davis to retreat to the corner. Davis with a headscissors takedown and denies all knowledge of hair pulling. Adias makes a comeback, but Davis runs him into the corner and chokes him out to cut that off. Adias blocks a blind charge a makes another comeback with a back elbow for two before Davis puts him on the floor. Meanwhile we learn that the coin flip nonsense from the TV title tournament worked so well that they’re doing it again for this one. Goodie. Adias comes in with a sunset flip, but Davis grabs the ropes and holds on for the pin at 7:00, advancing to the third round. You could 100% tell that Adias was done caring about wrestling by this point and was just filling his dates for GWF before calling it a career. ½*.

Exotic Adrian Street claims that he was the rightful light heavyweight champion before he was stripped of it due to the weight limit changing, and that apparently is the end of the show as we only get 3 tournament matches this week.

Definitely check out the Kid-Chaz match, which honestly I probably had on a tape somewhere in my collection back in the day.
