The SmarK Rant for GWF Supercard – 07.16.91
Taped from Dallas, TX, where there is currently a hockey team still in the playoffs.
Sigh.
Your hosts are Craig Johnson & Scott Hudson
As usual, the first 10:00 of the show are a recap of the tournament thus far.
Global TV title tournament round two: RASTA THE VOODOO MON v. Exotic Adrian Street
This can’t be anything but a classic. I refuse to believe any other interpretation. Adrian does some prancing and mincing and Rasta doesn’t know what to do with that. Street goes for a wristlock and Rasta throws him off, so Adrian takes him down with a single leg and beats on him with forearms. Rasta of course does not sell any of this and slams Adrian down again before beating him down in the corner and choking him out. Street comes back with dropkicks and Rasta just kind of shakes it off and hooks him in the VOODOO BEARHUG. Street fights back again, so Rasta grabs the voodoo cane and hits him for the DQ at 5:20. The first Rasta match had the clever voodoo psychology gimmick but this was just him pretending to be Zeus and doing a terrible imitation. -**
Meanwhile, Billy Black, who we apparently know best as the Georgia National TV title holder, teases the arrival of his partner Joel Deaton in the GWF soon.
Global TV title tournament round two: The Patriot v. Wild Bill Irwin
This is literally a repeat from last week’s show. Patriot with the Patriot missile shoulderblock at 8:30 to advance.
Boni Blackstone talks with a fan named Alenna, who has the same question for Rasta the Voodoo Mon we all do: What’s with the cane?
Global TV title tournament round one: Buddy Landel v. Gary Young
Are we THAT starved for content this week that we’re just repeating matches now? This was from the 07.09 show, with Buddy advancing in the tournament in seven minutes.
Boni Blackstone poses the fan question about the cane to Rasta the Voodoo Mon, asking about the voodoo cane and what it represents. Apparently he doesn’t speak English and doesn’t understand the question.
Global TV title tournament round two: Buddy Landel v. Big Bully Busick
Winner of this faces Adrian Street in the semi-finals. We get the big stall to start as Buddy accuses Busick of being too chicken to fight and then runs away and gets into a shoving match with the ref before running away. Finally Busick grabs a headlock and they trade reversals off that until Buddy gets a cheapshot and beats on Busick in the corner. Meanwhile Hudson notes that Buddy is wrestling in the GWF because he blew every other chance he’s ever had and now he’s in the last place that will book him. There’s some truth for once. Bully comes back and whips Buddy around the ring, but Buddy trips him up in the corner and gets the pin with his feet on the ropes at 6:44. I’ve seen Buddy take a night off before but this was truly someone who did not give a single fuck stinking up the joint. -*.
Wow, even with repeated matches and 10 minutes of recaps at the start they could barely get to an hour runtime for this episode. And there’s only two quarterfinal matches on the next episode so it’ll probably be more of the same. This one took me literally 15 minutes to recap the whole thing. I’ve been enjoying this show so far, but this was the worst episode of the series thus far, easily.
