The SmarK Rant for ECW Wrestling on TNN – 09.29.00

Taped from Salem, NH

Your hosts are Joey Styles & Joel Gertner, welcoming us to “the TV show that wasn’t supposed to air on TNN tonight”. Sadly, Lou E. Dangerously interrupts, playing the role of Network stooge this week, but Joey completely no-sells his nonsense and calls him a waste of time before walking away. So then Lou goes after Gertner instead, revealing that he wrote all of Gertner’s material at the time. Joel wonders if “musical director” Lou plays “the skin flute or the meat whistle” for Cyrus. So Joel slaps him, but Cyrus runs in and hits Joel with a JUDAS EFFECT and knocks him out, and Joey has to make the save. Oh damn, now we know where Jericho came up with that one. This was leading to a Cyrus v. Joel Gertner match at the PPV, by the way.

This week has the super-mega-extended mix of the theme song as I think they were stretching out their footage as much as possible on the way out.

Last week, Rhino regains the World TV title from Kid Kash in Mississauga after an impromptu match where he basically squashed Kash. Let’s watch the whole thing again to fill up more time on this bonus episode. I know for you readers this review is about a week later but I wrote it right after watching the last episode so this is double annoying for me.

ECW World title: Justin Credible v. Steve Corino v. Jerry Lynn

OK so we finally pick up where the last episode left off, with the three-way title match from Mississauga. You know this is an important match because Joel and Joey spend the first part of it making fun of TNN’s impending rebrand as The National Network and “We’ve Got Pop”. Lynn hits both guys with a dive to the floor, and then comes in with a sunset flip on Corino for two. He beats on Credible in the corner and follows with a tornado DDT for two. Credible lays both guys out and grabs a chair for some shots to Lynn’s head with that, but Corino saves and tosses Justin. Back in the ring, Lynn slugs away in the corner on Credible and then clotheslines him to the floor as Credible continues to take crazy bumps but just can’t get over as a main event guy no matter how hard he works. Look man, some people have pop, and some just don’t have pop. They fight into the crowd and back in for a slugfest between Lynn and Credible, but Corino throws elbows and takes out the ref by mistake. So Lynn hits the cradle piledriver on Credible, but evil ref Danny Daniels only counts two and then stops. And then Lynn goes after Francine, allowing Justin to hit the That’s Incredible. But then HC Loc takes out the evil ref and we get a REF FIGHT as they brawl to the back. Justin with another That’s Incredible on Lynn and that eliminates him at 7:58.

Carrying on, Corino backslides Credible for two, but Francine trips him up. He recovers with a superkick on Credible for two. They trade chops in the corner and Credible goes low to win that battle and Francine tapes Corino to the top rope for good measure. So Justin beats on him with the kendo stick, with Corino doing his best Dusty “MAKE IT GOOD!” and Credible gets two. Corino comes back with the Old School Expulsion on a chair for two, but Francine makes the save and then Dawn Marie runs in for a catfight. Corino rolls up Credible for two, but Francine hits him with the cane and That’s Incredible finishes at 12:27 to retain. Just the usual overbooked nonsense with Corino bleeding for no reason and a million run-ins. ***

And Joey hypes up the Anarchy Rulz PPV, which I have no interest in watching after this yawn of a show, before we finish up with a series of promos from Credible and Lynn.

Next time: Last one out of TNN, turn out the lights.
