WWE’s IYO SKY To Compete At Upcoming Marigold Event
By Conor Renshaw on 26 September 2025
Former WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY is set to compete at an upcoming Marigold event in Japan.
Marigold posted a video on social media yesterday of IYO SKY addressing their fans in Japanese and announced that on October 26 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan, she will be in action against Mayu Iwatani, the current Marigold Super Fly Champion. SKY closed her promo by speaking in English, saying:
“Hey Mayu, let’s show the world what an amazing match we will have. See you soon.”

SKY and Iwatani have a history in Japanese wrestling, having teamed together and also been opponents whilst they both competed for Stardom. They also held the Stardom trios title together twice and the tag team title together on one occasion. They have faced each other seven times in singles matches, and their December 22, 2016, match against each other in the main event of the Stardom Year-End Climax show for the World of Stardom Title received critical acclaim, with Dave Meltzer rating the match four and a half stars.
SKY’s most recent WWE match was at Wrestlepalooza last Saturday, where she faced off against Stephanie Vaquer for the vacant Women’s World Title, but was unable to recapture the title.
When Was IYO SKY Last In Marigold?
IYO SKY has only competed in Marigold once before, where she faced Utami Hayashishita in a match that also garnered rave reviews, earning four and three-quarter stars from Dave Meltzer. The match took place at Marigold’s Summer Destiny event on July 13, 2024, also at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
What do you think about SKY competing at Marigold? Do you think this partnership between WWE and Marigold could lead to WWE buying the company to expand its reach into Japan? And are there any other WWE stars you’d like to see head out east to compete?
