WWE Saving John Cena Vs. Brock Lesnar For AEW Head-To-Head

John Cena will reportedly take on Brock Lesnar when WWE goes head-to-head with AEW All Out in September.

Brock Lesnar made his WWE return at SummerSlam and quickly made his mark by assaulting John Cena and leaving him lying in a heap to close the show. The event marked Lesnar’s first appearance in the company in two years. While there had been a plan for him to come back at the 2024 Royal Rumble, it was stopped when Lesnar was mentioned several times in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE.

Following the events of SummerSlam, fans expected Cena and Lesnar to meet in the ring one last time at Clash in Paris on August 31st. However, on the August 8th edition of SmackDown, Cena instead issued an open challenge for WWE’s return to France, which was answered by Logan Paul. WWE later made the match between the two official.

Why Brock Lesnar vs John Cena Has Been Delayed

On August 11th, POST Wrestling reported that WWE will add another Premium Live Event to its schedule in September. The as-yet-unnamed show is set to be held on September 20th in Indianapolis, Indiana, the same date AEW will be holding All Out in Toronto, Canada. While WWE and AEW have gone head-to-head multiple times in the past, this will mark the first time a main roster WWE PLE will be held on the same day as an AEW pay-per-view.

It seems that WWE is stacking the card for the show, with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that it’s the reason Brock Lesnar won’t have a match in Paris.

“It can change, but the main event for this show is Brock Lesnar and John Cena. So it’s a big one. Which is why Brock’s not in Paris, is because of this.

“They wanted him for this show, not for the Paris show. And that’s where Logan Paul got the gig.”
