According to many sources including his former news network CNN, Ted Turner passed today at the age of 87.
Ted was a big deal in the wrestling landscape, as he purchased what would become WCW from Jim Crockett Promotions in 1988. As he owned TBS, it gave WCW a home base for national television, something that would expand as Nitro was born and WCW moved onto his TNT network as well.
He was also heavily parodied and attacked by Vince McMahon with the “Billionaire Ted” skits.
In addition to WCW, TBS and TNT, he would found the Cartoon Network and CNN and three Atlanta sports teams in the Braves, Hawks, and Thunder.
