Tony Khan Gives Update On Britt Baker’s AEW Status & Injured ROH Champion Red Velvet

During the AEW All In Texas media call, Tony Khan addressed a question that’s been on many fans’ minds. Where is Britt Baker?

Khan shut down speculation that Baker was on her way out of the company, firmly stating:

“I’ve never had a conversation about Britt departing AEW. I like Britt a lot.”

Instead, Khan compared the AEW roster to a sports team by saying that they have some stars “on the bench”.

He went on to say that Baker is an example of someone whom he feels the company could utilise in the right situation, and that, like in a pro sports team, there are people who “aren’t necessarily starting every game” but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be “starting” in the future.

“It makes sense for me to look at the AEW roster like a sports team and trying to manage the minutes and rotation.”

Khan finished, driving home his “pro sports team” metaphor. Baker last competed in an AEW ring on the November 13, 2024, episode of Dynamite.

While the idea of managing a sports team by rotating players to allow them to rest and be saved for big matches does make sense, does it really work in the world of pro wrestling? Or does it create an issue of those who were once stars for the promotion being forgotten about by the fans, and then those stars becoming frustrated at their lack of ring time and exposure?

What Other AEW/ROH News Did Tony Khan Announce During The Media Call?

Adding to AEW and ROH’s women’s division challenges, Khan also confirmed that ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet is injured and will miss the Supercard of Honor show taking place on Friday. Khan said an interim champion will be announced soon. It is currently unknown what injury Velvet has suffered.

Khan also stated that other injuries have forced major lineup changes for Friday, including the delay of the ROH Women’s Pure Championship tournament. And that an injury to Jamie Hayter led to Queen Aminata being “called up” from ROH to AEW.
