Kenny Omega Wins AEW Men’s World Title
By Niz on 9 July 2026
Kenny Omega defeated Maxwell Jacob Friedman in the main event of last night’s Beach Break episode of Dynamite to capture the AEW Men’s World Championship.
For Omega, this is his second reign as world champion, having previously won the title in December of 2020 when he defeated Jon Moxley at a Winter Is Coming episode of Dynamite. Omega held the title during that first reign for 346 days, eventually losing it to “Hangman” Adam Page at the 2021 version of Full Gear.
After the match ended, a match graphic appeared for the August 30th AEW All In PPV declaring that the official main event of the show will be Omega defending the title against Owen Hart Tournament winner Will Ospreay. Ospreay and Omega have met twice before in two high profile singles matches – Omega defeated Ospreay at New Japan’s WrestleKingdom 17 in January 2023 to win the IWGP United States Championship, and then Ospreay defeated Omega for that same title at AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door in June 2023.
For MJF, this ends his third reign as AEW World Champion at 45 days, his shortest of the three. There have been some rumors that MJF is carrying an injury and may need some time off, and his leg was heavily wrapped during last night’s contest. It remains to be seen whether or not MJF takes time away, but one would suspect he would want to be on the Wembley card in some way as it is generally AEW’s biggest show of the year.
Nothing has been announced yet in terms of matches for Ospreay, Omega, or MJF for AEW’s upcoming Redemption PPV on July 26.
Last night’s show also saw Kyle Fletcher defeat Konosuke Takeshita to capture the AEW International title, ending Takeshita’s second reign with that title. It is Fletcher’s first run with the International title after having captured the AEW TNT title twice previously.
