A Moment In Time – WeeLC

Well, you can thank our good friend Kat Bourne for this one.
This is a TLC Match between Hornswoggle and El Torito that occurred on the pre-show of Extreme Rules 2014. Now, the concept of two little people having a TLC match is something that could only happen in professional wrestling, and so here we are. Hornswoggle has had a LONG career and is somehow only 40 years old at this point. He’s currently signed to a WWE Legends contract after stints in WWE, TNA, and many many indie appearances. El Torito was a WWE-ized name given to Mascarita Dorada/Sagrada and he’s worked mainly in Mexico for both CMLL and currently for AAA. Torito has also recently made appearances as a Mini-Danhausen in several matches. Let’s relive this contest right now!
The announcers for this match are Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and John Bradshaw Layfield. There are are three little folks impersonating them at ringside, Micro Cole, Jerry “The Mini-King” Smaller, and JBElf.
We also have a little person ring announcer and referee. El Torito is accompanied by Los Matadores, while Hornswoggle is accompanied by the immortal 3MB (Jinder Mahal, Heath Slater, and god bless him, Drew McIntyre).
There’s a hockey fight to start and Torito snaps off a rana to send Hornswoggle to the floor. Torito hits a tope con hilo and sends Hornswoggle and 3MB down in a heap. Hornswoggle sneaks back in and tries to go through the ropes as well, but he fails miserably. Torito grabs a mini-chair and sets it up in front of a prone Hornswoggle for a rope-launch Bronco Buster. Mahal tries to interfere so Torito brings him into the ring by mashing the ropes. Hornswoggle uses the distraction to grab Torito’s tail. Torito escapes between Mahal’s legs and Hornswoggle plows head-first right into Mahal’s man-region. Torito shoves Mahal to the floor and turns right into a Hornswoggle clothesline. Hornswoggle gets a mini-ladder from Slater and McIntyre. That ladder proves not to be to Hornswoggle’s liking so he tosses it in favor of a slightly taller one. Hornswoggle makes the climb and wallops Torito with a right before pausing at the top. Torito offers to lay still and Hornswoggle tries a splash, but Torito was fooling and escapes as Hornswoggle eats it off the dive. Torito grabs a cover for two.
3MB and Los Matadores start battling on the floor, and Slater slams one of the Matadores on a ladder. Back in the ring, Hornswoggle has a chair and he mashes Torito with it before setting it up for a leaping senton. Hornswoggle places the chair on Torito’s chest and smashes him with a splash that gets one. Torito bails and Hornswoggle goes out after for a body slam. Hornswoggle clears the mini-announce table and places Torito on it. Mahal encourages Hornswoggle who leaps off the apron and destroys Torito with a splash. Slater gives Hornswoggle a pep talk as Mahal and McIntyre arrange things in the ring. Hornswoggle boots Torito as McIntyre and Mahal set up a ladder and a table. Slater grabs Torito and holds him along the ropes for a chairshot, but Torito slips away and Hornswoggle lights up Slater in the mid-section which sends him careening through a couple of ringside tables. McIntyre charges over and yanks up Torito before placing him on the second highest step of the ladder that’s in the ring. Torito fires up and smashes Hornswoggle’s head into the top of the ladder and the Matadores have finally recovered. They put Mahal on their shoulders and Torito sends all of them through a pile of tables and ladders at ringside.
Hornswoggle yanks Torito out of the pile and takes him to another ringside table. Hornswoggle fails utterly to mount Torito on the table and as he runs away McIntyre’s tope con hilo sees him land on and destroy the table thoroughly. Torito grabs a chair and blasts Hornswoggle in the head with it. Torito mashes Slater’s head into the chair-seat and then crushes Hornswoggle with a springboard senton through the mini-table in the ring to finish things.
You can absolutely see why people love and remember this match. Wrestling is inherently ridiculous and when something like this comes along, you can just sit back and let it wash over you before we move on to more urgent and pressing things. Torito is actually a hell of a wrestler in general and I’m glad he’s still getting work at a high level with WWE. I know Hornswoggle has had some health issues over time but he’s still got money coming in from the company and I’m sure if they ever need him, he’ll be there. I have no idea how to rate this but it’s just so much fun (the commentary alone is PRICELESS).
Thanks for reading!
