Isla Dawn Wasn’t Surprised By WWE Release
By Craig Ballantyne on 21 July 2025
Isla Dawn has admitted that she “wasn’t surprised at all” when WWE released her from her contract.
After five years on the independent scene, Isla Dawn joined WWE in 2018 as part of NXT UK. While there, she received multiple shots at NXT UK Women’s champion Meiko Satomura, but was unable to capture the gold.
In 2022, Dawn moved to the main NXT brand and began feuding with Alba Fyre. Eventually, the pair put their differences behind them and formed The Unholy Union. As a team, Dawn and Fyre won the NXT Women’s Tag Championship, and later the main roster version of the titles.
On February 8th, 2025, Isla Dawn was part of a round of cuts that also saw Sonya Deville, Blair Davenport (Bea Priestley), and Cedric Alexander leaving the company.
“I Knew At Some Point It Was Going To End” – Isla Dawn On WWE Release
Reflecting on her release in an interview with Fightful, Isla Dawn said she felt it was coming.
“I wasn’t surprised at all. I had been at Smackdown the night before and we’d got word of a few people being released, and I remember texting my mate and being like, ‘oh, I think I’m in this one’, and they were like, ‘no, don’t be stupid. You’re always thinking you’re getting fired. You’re always negative,’ and I was like, ‘no, no.’ I was like, ‘I feel this one.’”
Going further, Dawn said in WWE, it seems like an ‘if’ rather than a ‘when’ you’ll be released for the majority of wrestlers.
“It’s not even from anything anyone said or anything. I could just feel it. But that’s the thing. Like, at some point, everyone, well, most people are going to be released. So it’s not really- it’s not an ‘if,’ it’s a when for a majority of people. So I knew at some point it was going to end and then towards the last, like, little bit, I was like ‘oh I can feel it, I can feel it coming,’ so it wasn’t like it was sad and it was whatever, but it wasn’t like.. I feel like out the dark shock.”
After she was spotted backstage at a recent event, it’s been reported that Isla Dawn will sign with AEW. Would that be a good move for Dawn? Is she ready for AEW’s women’s roster? Let us know what you think below!
