Gunther Praises “Unique Performer” CM Punk

Gunther is more excited to face CM Punk at SummerSlam than he was for his WrestleMania bout against Jey Uso.

At SummerSlam, CM Punk will face Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Having failed in his challenge for John Cena’s Undisputed WWE Title at Clash of Champions, on the latest edition of Raw, Punk told The Ring General that he “needs” to beat him for the gold.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, Gunther spoke of his excitement at working with Punk, who he believes to be one of the “top, top guys” in the company.

“I’m looking forward to getting in the ring with [Punk] on a big stage like SummerSlam in a prominent spot like that. That’s why I joined the company, I wanted to be in the ring with the top, top guys and him coming back was a big deal, he’s one of the most unique performers that the business has ever had.

“That’s what I’m here for. I’m all ready for it and I’m prepared and I’m excited.”

Gunther Appreciates Responsibility Of Wrestling CM Punk At WWE SummerSlam

In April, Gunther entered WrestleMania 41 as the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time, only to lose the title to Jey Uso. For him, the match against Punk – “the next big one” – at SummerSlam is a more exciting prospect.

“I’ve always operated better when I’ve had responsibility [placed] on me and that’s the case here. I embrace it and I enjoy it, and SummerSlam is the next big one.

“I did ‘Mania with Jey [Uso] but I feel like SummerSlam with Punk from an overall perspective is the one that I’m most excited for so far.”
