AJ Styles Praises “Incredible” John Cena

AJ Styles isn’t sure if there’s anyone he trusts more in the ring than John Cena.
At WWE Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, AJ Styles got in the ring with John Cena for the final time. Despite having last wrestled each other in 2017, the pair went on to put on a match many fans believe was an instant classic. In the end, Cena walked away with the victory as he continues his road to retirement, which ends on December 13th in Washington, DC.
Reflecting on the match in an interview with Justin Barraso for the Boston Herald, the Phenomenal One praised Cena for his ability to understand what the fans need.
“I’m not sure there is anyone in the ring I trust more than John Cena. He’s incredible at understanding what the fans need when they need it. He’s even more incredible with the way he treats people.
Continuing, Styles said that during the bout, it fel tlike any other match, but its signficance quickly dawned on him when it was over.
“During our match at Crown Jewel, which is the last time we’ll ever wrestle each other, I was in the moment. I embraced and enjoyed it – I mean, it’s hard not to love what you do when you’re having so much fun doing it.
“People might be surprised to hear this, but for John and myself, it was another match until it was over. Afterward, we were able to reflect on its significance. In the moment, we were doing what we do to entertain people.”

During the match, AJ Styles and John Cena used a multitude of moves made famous by their rivals over the years, including the likes of The Undertaker’s Tombstone, Bray Wyatt’s Sister Abigail, and Sting’s Scorpion Death Drop.
Styles noted that the pair have been wrestling for decades, and believes that experience helped them achieve their goal of giving fans something special.
“We’ve been doing this for decades, this is what we do. The greatest part is it meant a lot to a lot of people. We wanted to give wrestling fans something special, and I think we accomplished that.”
