AEW’s Mercedes Mone Is Everything Sasha Banks Wanted To Be

Mercedes Mone has explained how she is now everything Sasha Banks wanted to be in WWE.
Mone first joined WWE in 2012 as part of NXT. Then known as Sasha Banks, she quickly became one of the biggest stars in the developmental brand. In 2015, The Boss moved up to the main roster alongside Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, and the trio helped kick off a revolution for women’s wrestling in WWE.
During her time in WWE, Mone became a 6-time Women’s Champion across Raw and SmackDown as well as holding the Women’s Tag Team Titles three times alongside first Bayley and then Naomi.
Her WWE career came to an abrupt end in May 2022, when she and Naomi walked out of the company, reportedly due to disputes over their creative direction.
In 2023, Mone made her return to pro wrestling, signing with both NJPW and STARDOM. After finding success in the Japanese companies, The CEO signed with AEW in 2024 and has become a dominant force in that company and their partners around the world. Currently, Mone holds the AEW TBS, CMLL, EWA, and RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Titles. She is still on an undefeated streak in Tony Khan’s company heading into a blockbuster match at All In where she will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Title.
“She Wanted It All, But She Never Got To Hold It All” – Mercedes Mone On Sasha Banks
Reflecting on the differences between Sasha Banks and Mercedes Mone, The CEO recently told CBS Sports that while Banks wanted it all, it’s Mone who achieved that goal.
“She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all. Mercedes Mone, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be. She controls her life, narrative and intellectual property.”
Continuing, Mone said she is feeling the greatest she has in her 15-year career, and is looking forward to finding out what the future holds.
“It’s being the boss of your life, taking control and doing that daily. I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my professional wrestling career. It’s so crazy to say that. I thought maybe my 20s would be my highest point. Here I am going into my 15th year of professional wrestling feeling my greatest. I can’t even imagine what the next five years will hold.”
