It has been reported that WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher has been hospitalised.
The booking agent Steve Stasiak posted via his Twitter account, @BookProWrestler, that the legendary Abdullah the Butcher, whose career spanned seven decades, as he made his debut in 1958 and had his last match in 2010, is in the hospital and is facing serious health issues. Stasiak’s post read:
“Wrestling legend Abdullah The Butcher has been hospitalized at 84.
The Wild Man from the Sudan is battling serious health issues. One of wrestling’s most feared figures, Abdullah helped shape the sport from Japan to Puerto Rico to Georgia and beyond.
Send your prayers, love, and strength his way tonight.”
Abdullah The Butcher’s Legendary Career
Abdullah the Butcher was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on January 11, 1941, and broke into the business of pro wrestling at the age of 17, wrestling for Montreal promoter Jack Britton and soon created the gimmick that would make him famous for many years to come. Despite never winning a world title in a top promotion, he became a feared heel and was used as a special attraction in a similar way as Andre the Giant would be used, being sent from territory to territory to feud with their top babyfaces.
Abdullah became a big star in All Japan Pro Wrestling during the 1970s and 80s, and had notable feuds with the likes of Jumbo Tsuruta and Terry Funk. Abdullah was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011, which caused some controversy as Superstar Billy Graham requested that his name be removed from the Hall of Fame after Abdullah’s induction, as he didn’t want to be associated with him.
