Happy birthday to my wife!

I finally got a chance to read the amazing Superman/Batman Generations series by John Byrne this weekend after somehow not being aware of it for 20 years, and holy crap why can’t John just do Superman comics forever?  To say that his original Man of Steel mini-series in 87 was one of the most influential moments for me as a comics fan would be a massive understatement, as it basically made me a lifelong Superman fan and I collected Byrne’s entire run on Action and Superman before his relationship with DC went south.  Anyway, Generations is so great and so imaginative, the kind of fun throwback to the Silver Age that I’ve been wanting for so long, and I’m hoping we get a volume 4 someday.  Apparently there’s a hardcover trade coming next year and it’s well worth picking up when it comes out.

So I’m pretty annoyed because I bought some wireless headphones for my kid at a decent price and now it turns out that the site is probably a cheap Chinese scam company that pretends to ship from Canada or the UK.  I’ve opened a dispute with PayPal and asked them for a refund, but luckily it was only $20 because I doubt I’m gonna see either the product or my money back.

Also, I’m sad to learn that DC is discontinuing the 100 Page Giants AND the Dollar Comics because those were some of my last vestiges of comic collecting when I would stop by the local shop with a bit of money in my pocket.  For $5 you were basically guaranteed SOMETHING you’d like, especially off the wall ones like the “Ghosts” special.  Much like WWE, it feels like they’re back to making the hobby less accessible instead of more accessible and trying to squeeze more blood from the dwindling readership instead of making new fans.  Also, why is it so damn hard to find copies of SuperFriends?  I got Season 1/Volume 1 with no problems, but all the stuff after that is seemingly out of print and has wait times of a month or more to get it from Amazon.  Are they on that DC Universe service that’s probably never coming to anywhere but the US?
