Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WCW Fall Brawl 1993

By Michael Fitzgerald on 28th September 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Back again with another Stinker Review, as I look at a wrestling show with a bad reputation to see if that reputation is deserved or not. This month we’ve got WCW Fall Brawl 1993, a show that featues The Shockmaster in the Main Event along with a man in yellowface wrestling near the top of the card. In 1993!!

So with all of that going on; Fall Brawl 93 already looks like it’s well on the way to Stinkerville, but maybe there’s enough good stuff elsewhere on the card that it won’t ultimately reach it’s smelly destination? I’ll guess we’ll have to take a look at Fall Brawl 93 to find out. Lucky us…

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers: WWE SummerSlam 2010

By Michael Fitzgerald on 31st August 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Today we’re looking at another show with a stinky reputation to see if that reputation is deserved in the form of SummerSlam 2010. This version of SummerSlam was built around a Nexus Vs WWE angle, that actually worked rather well, but the rest of the card doesn’t inspire much optimism in me.

I was actually so uninterested in the rest of the card, save for the Nexus stuff, that I didn’t actually buy SummerSlam 2010 back in the day, although I did pick up the DVD from Silver Vision for about £3 when they had a sale on just so I could see the Main Event.

Maybe the rest of SummerSlam is decent and the show doesn’t deserve the poor reputation it often gets? Let’s watch on and find out! You can view the SummerSlam card below;

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers: ECW Just Another Night

By Michael Fitzgerald on 27th July 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Stinker Reviews are where we look at a show with a bad reputation and see if that bad rap is deserved or not. Today we’ve got Just Another Night from 1996 ECW, an event that sits on a miserable 3 out of 10 rating over on Cage Match.

Have the inmates been unkind, or is Just Another Night as bad as they say? I guess we’ll have to watch it to find out. I know nothing of this card aside from the fact that it features Bam Bam Bigelow taking on Mick Foley, which is a match that had to have happened very rarely, so Just Another Night has that going for it at least.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWF King of the Ring 2000

By Michael Fitzgerald on 29th June 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Last week we looked at the go-home Smackdown for King of the Ring 2000, so let’s review that show this week, as I remember it being pretty stinky. However, maybe my memory is being unkind to this show? 2000 was generally a good year for the WWF on pay per view, so perhaps King of the Ring 2000 will hold up better than other potential Stinkers I’ve reviewed in the past?

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – Monday Night Raw #835 (Kennedy Gets Fired)

By Michael Fitzgerald on 25th May 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Back with another Stinker Review this week, where I look at a show with a bad reputation and decide whether that reputation is fair or not. This month we’ve got an infamous edition of Raw from 2009, where Vince McMahon rages against the Denver Nuggets and Ken Kennedy has his WWE career brought to a cruel end.

However, is this episode really THAT bad or has its awfulness just been exaggerated over the years? Was Mr. Kennedy really hard done by? Did Vince really make such an Arsenal of himself in regards to Stan Kroenke? Lemon Curry? Let’s watch on and find out!

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – iGW Rodman Down Under

By Michael Fitzgerald on 27th April 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Today we’re going to look at another show with a bad reputation, as we give the floor to iGW and their disastrous pay per view event from 2000 featuring Dennis Rodman. iGW stands for i-Generation Wrestling, a company who operated out of Australia and thought that they could crack the wrestling market by running shows that contained a combination of star wrestlers from the 80’s and 90’s combined with the unmistakable star power of Dennis Rodman.

I joke, but I remember seeing a report of this show here in the UK due to the involvement of Rodman, although I think it was on Channel 5, which was in distant fifth place in levels of importance when it came to the five main terrestrial channels over here in the UK at the time. According to Cage Match; Rodman Down Under somehow managed to draw 10,000 people to an arena in Sydney, which is either incorrect or a testament to how starved for live wrestling the Aussies were at the time.

Rodman Down Under also scored a pitiful 2 out of 10 over on Cage Match, and Scott Keith famously hated the show at the time as well. So…….I’m not entirely optimistic here, but maybe iGW’s Rodman show won’t be as bad as it sounds? Right? RIGHT?!?!

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWF WrestleMania IV

By Michael Fitzgerald on 30th March 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We’re back with another Stinker Review this week, which is where I look at a show that has a bad reputation and decide whether that bad rap is deserved or not. This month we’ve got WWF WrestleMania IV, an event that was stupendously hyped by the WWF and generated a lot of interest at the time; but the show itself ended up being considered a major disappointment.

One of the main issues facing WrestleMania IV was that the event ended up being held next to a casino and the majority of those in attendance weren’t actually wrestling fans, meaning that crowd reactions throughout the night were disappointing and matches that would have gotten decent reactions in front of real wrestling fans ended up getting met with derision and boredom from the casual casino goers who just wanted to dress fancy and attend a big event for the purposes of clout.

Another notable issue that WrestleMania IV had to contend with was that the show not only had a multi-round tournament for the WWF Title to fit in, but the WWF also had other matches booked throughout the evening as well, meaning that many thought the show dragged. The length of the event, combined with the uninterested crowd, made WrestleMania IV feel like a bit of a slog.

It also didn’t help that the NWA was on at the same time with an infinitely better Clash of Champions show, featuring Ric Flair making a lifetime star out of Sting in an all-time great World Title match. However, maybe all of these issues are overstated and WrestleMania IV is a better show than it gets credit for? Let’s watch on and find out!

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – SuperBrawl IX

By Michael Fitzgerald on 24th February 2024

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We’ve got an infamous Stinker for you this week, in the form of WCW SuperBrawl IX. SuperBrawl IX is one of those shows that was actually a success when you look at it on paper, due to it drawing an incredible 1.1 buy rate at the time. However, the show itself ended up being so universally reviled that WCW never got close to touching that kind of buy rate ever again and they had to essentially do a make good show in the form of Uncensored 1999 in order to quell the bile SuperBrawl IX churned up within it’s fan base

However, is SuperBrawl IX really that bad of a show? Looking at the card, there surely has to be some good wrestling on here right? I mean, we’ve got Kidman taking on Chavo Guerrero Jr, Booker T facing off with The Disco Inferno, and Bill Goldberg tangling with Bam Bam Bigelow. At least SOME of those matches have to be good surely?

Anyway, let’s take a look and see if SuperBrawl IX really is as stinky as it’s reputation suggests. You can view the card for the event by clicking below;

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWE Raw #491 (Katie Vick)

By Michael Fitzgerald on 27th January 2024

(Just a quick disclaimer; I wrote this quite a few months in advance, although I should have known that a certain person being a total creep was always a possibility. This review mentions that person by name, and also includes a certain angle involving Katie Vick, an angle that was in poor taste to begin with and will probably be even more unpalatable to read about now that the real life depravity of the person that conceived it has come to light in such a public manner. So if you think this particular topic is in poor taste due to the events of the week we’ve just had, I apologise, it wasn’t intentional on my part for this to drop under those circumstances)

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Today we’re doing an infamous episode of Raw featuring a certain segment at the funeral of a lass known as Katie Vick.

Yes, it’s THAT episode.

I’ll go into more detail as we get into the review, but an almighty stink was caused by this episode and WWE immediately went on the defensive from the criticism they were receiving for it.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWE Monday Night Raw #1426 (21st September 2020)

By Michael Fitzgerald on 30th December 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

For those not familiar, a Stinker Review is when I look at a show with a bad reputation in order to see if that reputation is deserved or not. Monday Night Raw #1426 is rated at a staggeringly low 1.54 out of 10 over on Cage Match, so that’s a good indicator that it’s pretty rubbish show.

Held in the midst of the pandemic, with no fans in attendance, the main thing that drew my attention to this show (in addition to such a low score) is that it features RETRIBUTION, who were a Heel stable modelled on the group ANTIFA who were pushed for all of a week before WWE gave up on them.

I wasn’t watching WWE really at all during this period, but I did see clips of RETRIBUTION’s debut, where they showed up and chain sawed the ring, which I thought was a pretty striking way for a new group to show up, so I was surprised they went from that to getting jobbed out so quickly. I seem to recall that RETRIBUTION ended up basically winning every belt on my WWE Universe NXT brand in whichever 2K game they appeared in actually.

Outside of RETRIBUTION being in the Main Event, I have very little idea what to expect from this one, but surely Monday Night Raw #1426 can’t be as bad as Cage Match says? Well, let’s watch on and fight out I guess…

Mike Reviews Shows Consider To Be Stinkers – CWA Bodyguards Vs Bandits

By Michael Fitzgerald on 25th November 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

This month’s Stinker Review came courtesy of CandygramForMongo, so thank/blame them for this review. What I do with these reviews is look at a show that has a bad reputation and see if that reputation is deserved or not. CWA Bodyguards Vs Bandits was a pay per view produced by the Confederate Wrestling Alliance, a company that ran out of Dallas from 1995 to 1997.

I didn’t really know much about CWA or the whole Bodyguards Vs Bandits concept, but thankfully Wrestling Epicentre was able to shed some light on the matter;

“Though the CWA had local TV, those tapes are extremely hard to come by. But, believe it or not, they did do a pay-per-view. This is that pay-per-view. The event, unbranded though attributed to the CWA brand, was called Bodyguards and Bandits. Nearest we can tell, it was a pay per view concept to attempt to create a solitary star by putting him, a virtually untrained wrestler, over the NWA and GWF faithfuls”

http://wrestlingepicenter.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=1794

Well I don’t see how that can’t be awesome, so let’s all brace ourselves and see whether Bodyguards Vs Bandits is as Stinky as many say.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWE No Mercy 2005

By Michael Fitzgerald on 28th October 2023

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Back with another Stinker Review today, where I look at a show with a bad reputation and see if that reputation is deserved or not. I did actually order No Mercy 2005 back in the day and I was pretty disappointed in it, but I don’t think I’ve watched it since it originally aired, so maybe I’ll have mellowed on it somewhat whilst removed from the initial disappointment.

The big matches are Batista Vs Eddy Guerrero, JBL Vs Rey Mysterio Jr, The Orton’s Vs Undertaker and a wacky Fatal Four Way for the US Title. Some of that should be watchable at least, although I think there’s a whole lot of nothing outside of those matches.

The Orton match is particularly wretched I believe.

Anyway, let’s see if No Mercy 2005 has improved with time.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WCW Fall Brawl 1998

By Michael Fitzgerald on 30th September 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We’ve got an infamously awful show for you this time, in the form of WCW Fall Brawl 1998, a show Main Evented by a monstrous War Games match that almost saw Eric Bischoff called to The Hague to face formal charges. The rest of the show isn’t up to much either, with quite a few bad matches and WCW’s favourite trope; the bait and switch.

Howver, I’ll be doing my level best to give Fall Brawl 1998 a fair chance though. Who knows, maybe it isn’t quite as uniformly terrible as people say? There are a couple of matches on here that look like that might be close to being watchable, and there is at least one fantastic bout on the undercard that I’m looking forward to seeing.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WCW Uncensored 2000

By Michael Fitzgerald on 26th August 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We return to WCW for this week’s Stinker Review, as we look at the last pay per view the company held before bringing back Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff in order to reboot things again. WCW was in a pretty lousy holding pattern at the time, with Kevin Sullivan and Kevin Nash handling most of the booking and putting on crummy shows. Uncensored 2000 was already fighting an uphill battle by having to go up against WrestleMania 2000 during one of the WWF’s all-time hot streaks, but WCW practically threw the towel in with this event.

The Main Event of Uncensored 2000 was supposedly Jeff Jarrett challenging Sid for the World Title, although we’ll see how that turns out. Elsewhere we’ve got Ric Flair taking on Hulk Hogan in a strap match, as well as Lex Luger battling Sting in a lumberjack match where everyone has a cast on their arm. In something like 1997 you might have drawn quite a bit of money with a line-up like that, but by 2000 WCW was ice cold and the show was lucky to scrape a 0.13 buy rate.

I actually owned the VHS of Uncensored 2000 back in the day, as it was one of the rare occasions that my mother actively encouraged me to buy a wrestling tape as there was some sort of offer on at Woolworths and she thought it was silly not to take advantage of it. She’s a bit odd like that. I remember thinking the show was pretty awful back in the day, but maybe it’s aged well?

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWE Crown Jewel 2018

By Michael Fitzgerald on 29th July 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

I decided to let CageMatch.net choose the Stinker Review this month, with this being one of the lowest scoring events on the whole website. I had a look and Crown Jewel 2018 is one of the WWE Saudi Arabia shows, which were often awful in the early going, although I’ve been led to believe that they aren’t quite as cack these days.

For those not acquainted, a Stinker Review is when I look at a show that has a bad reputation and see if that reputation is deserved or not. I looked at the card for Crown Jewel 2018 and one thing that instantly jumped out at me was a certain World Cup tournament, just because it jolted a memory as to who ended up winning it.

WWE got a lot of stick for even running Crown Jewel 2018 to begin with as it took place a month after Jamal Khashoggi had been murdered by the Saudi government, so giving the regime a wrestling show so soon after the crime took place was in spectacular poor taste even for WWE. However, as with many things, money talked and Crown Jewel 2018 took place regardless.

I wonder if the majority of negative reviews for Crown Jewel 2018 are because of the Khashoggi situation as opposed to the actual quality of the show? I guess we’ll only find that out by watching it, so let’s brace ourselves and see if Crown Jewel 2018 really is a Stinker.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WCW Great American Bash 1999

By Michael Fitzgerald on 24th June 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We’ve got another Stinker Review for you today in the form of Great American Bash 1999. For those who aren’t familiar; a Stinker Review is a monthly feature where I look at a show with a bad reputation and decide if it’s deserving of the scorn it gets.

This is a show I actually watched quite a bit in my younger days as I had bootleg VHS copy of it. Even in my youth I thought Great American Bash 1999 was awful, but let’s see if time has been kind to it.

The big storyline coming in is that Randy Savage is even more psychotic than ever and is coming for Kevin Nash’s WCW World Title. On the under card we’ve got Ric Flair and Roddy Piper fighting over control of WCW whilst Sting is trying to win the World TV Title from Rick Steiner.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWE Battleground 2017

By Michael Fitzgerald on 27th May 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

I’ve never actually seen Battleground 2017 but it’s one of the lowest rated WWE shows ever on CageMatch.net so it felt like it made sense for the ol’ Stinker treatment. For those not au fait, the Stinker Review is a monthly thing where I look at a show with a bad reputation and see if it’s deserved or not.

The Main Event of this one is a Punjabi Prison match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton, which certainly sounds like it will be a real humdinger. The rest of the card has a slew of poorly rated matches by the looks of things, so I’m suitably nervous.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WCW New Blood Rising 2000

By Michael Fitzgerald on 29th April 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Yes, today we’re doing WCW New Blood Rising 2000. For those of you that have never read one of these, I look at a show with a bad reputation and see if that reputation is deserved or not. New Blood Rising 2000 is a famously awful show from when WCW was going off the deep end into the excrement filled swimming pool, as Vince Russo put together one of the most anger inducing messes of a wrestling show ever conceived.

We’ve got Jeff Jarrett taking on Booker T in the Main Event, but it’s the bollocks in the under card that we’ll be mostly focusing on here. Let’s see just how bad New Blood Rising 2000 really is.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – WWF WrestleMania XI

By Michael Fitzgerald on 25th March 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

We’re back with another Stinker Review, where I look at a show with a bad reputation and see if it’s deserved. This week our target is WWF WrestleMania XI, a show that is wildly regarded as one of the worst Mania events ever. It was a show that was built around Bam Bam Bigelow facing off with famous American Footballer Lawrence Taylor, which is at least a big celebrity match with freak show appeal, but the under card isn’t really close to being Mania-Worthy.

However, maybe WrestleMania XI has been unfairly maligned and it’s better than people give it credit for? Let’s give it a chance to defend itself before we decide whether it deserves to be labelled as a Stinker.

Mike Reviews Shows Considered To Be Stinkers – nWo Souled Out 1997

By Michael Fitzgerald on 25th February 2023

Happy Stinky Saturday Everyone!

Today we do our monthly review of a show with a bad reputation, as we look at nWo Souled Out 1997. This was WCW’s attempt at establishing the New World Order faction as a viable second brand, with the idea being that they could then run separate WCW and nWo branded events and ostensibly make the WWF the third biggest company in the USA (this was actually their plan).

The event ended up being awful though as, even though the nWo were cool, they were still the bad guys and the WCW fans ultimately wanted to see the WCW guys be booked as competent rather than them being the weekly punching bags they usually were. The show ended up being both a critical and commercial bomb, with the only bonus being they managed to sell out the 5,000 seater arena they booked it in.

Let’s see if time has been kind to this one or whether it’s still as stinky as I remember. If you’d like to see the card for the event you can do so by clicking below;
