Having failed to defeat the superheroes in the last episode, the villains take advantage of their comedy chops by inviting them to… a roast!

I want to get back into looking at some Super Friends episodes and thought this would be an interesting link to them. A live action version of the show with Adam West, Burt Ward and others in the roles of heroes and villains. First up today is The Challenge, tomorrow is The Roast.

I’ve previously reviewed some five-parters from the first season of Thundercats, but this is the five-parter that kicked off the second season with a whole bunch of new characters, firstly the new Thundercats. There are also going to be a lot of guest characters from the prior season as the cast is pretty extensive by this point, so pretend we’ve met them already and let’s get ready for some fun!

One more collection of Halloween-themed episodes before I wrap up for the week and head back to work on Monday. It’s been fun, and I’ll put up a post tomorrow to get requests for stuff to look at the next time I’m off.

Continuing the Halloween theme, I’m going to look at four episodes from different shows today and another four tomorrow. If they suck and couldn’t even scare a baby, then it’s a dirty TRICK, but if they totally work and are fun to watch then they’re a TREAT. Let’s hope we head home with sweets in our bags and not rocks!

Apparently last night was Halloween Havoc, three nights early! Well, got something saved up for the real Halloween night, a selection of tricks and treats, but for now if there’s something weird in the neighbourhood, better call… the Ghostbusters!

I think it’s inevitable that I’ll be reviewing the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie soon, so I thought I’d review some episodes from the first few (good) seasons of the cartoon, which I took a minute to get into, but when I did I was into it I was REALLY into it!

So, I compared Masters of the Universe to Flash Gordon and someone loved the reference and said “Do Flash Gordon!” – you don’t have to tell me twice!

Filmed in 1980, there’s been a 40th anniversary Blu-Ray release of this recently, but I’m looking at the silver anniversary DVD from 2005, including an awesome Mike Hodges (director) interview, which I’ll make reference to after the review of the film.

Just picked this up and thought I’d watch and review it – the main feature is an adaptation of a classic Batman story with a twist to match the original. The rest are shorts that appeared alongside previous DC animated movie releases, and in some cases were better than those main features!

Talk about a movie I could write about while standing on my head! I really got into Transformers around 1986 and remember somehow having gotten Optimus Prime and Cliffjumper just before REALLY getting into it, but even with the UK being behind on things it still meant that my toy collection was comprised more heavily of figures from season three and beyond than season one or two. I had Arrival from Cybertron/More Than Meets the Eye on tape but at the time it didn’t feel like my era, even with my only real exposure to the movie being the Ladybird Books adaptation of it.

Then, in 1989, my folks went shopping one day at the big new supermarket nearby and traipsed across to what I’d find out was a video rental store. They came home telling me of all the different videos that were available there, including this one, which must’ve been the first we took out for the weekend. And when I saw it… Mind. Blown.

Bit of a twist with this one, because it’s a live action adaptation of a classic cartoon rather than an animated movie, but I love it and I hope you do too.

Continuing the series of requests, this is the movie designed to kick off the launch of the Bravestarr toyline and TV show, but rushing the toys out fucked things up and meant that this came out of sequence and wasn’t half as successful as it should’ve been given the quality. Let’s have a look.

So, I did the Movies Go To the Cartoons review, and Cartoons Go To the Movies is the logical followup. Seeing as we’ve been tracking Sgt. Slaughter, let’s see him through to his apex and the end of the Sunbow era of G.I. Joe. I saw this in the UK as Action Force: The Movie with the ridiculous dubbing of any line alluding to G.I. Joe or Yo Joe or even Sgt. Slaughter (we got the less brutal Sgt. Slammer), but the original is far better.

I thought I’d have a look at a few shows that were spin-offs of movies. As I mention, I wasn’t especially into the films and as a kid was more likely to watch the cartoons, but it’s interesting to now look at them with the knowledge of what they were derived from.

On request, and a fitting suggestion, I’m looking at some of the episodes of G.I. Joe that star Sgt. Slaughter. He first appeared in the season two mini-series Arise, Serpentor, Arise, which I’ll cycle back round to, and G.I. Joe: The Movie is on the to-do list, so today I’m looking at the standard episodes the Sarge appeared in.

Some great suggestions from the request thread, so I’ve bumped my Movies Go To the Cartoons to next week and thought I’d hit this one first. We start with the equivalent of an “angle” to set up the “big match”.

I break up from work October 23rd and am back to work on November 2nd. I’m pressing the reset button on any plans and opening up the floor for requests. If I can do it, I’ll do it, but it all depends on whether I have the requested shows on DVD or Blu-Ray or if they’re on YouTube or DailyMotion. I have got Goldie Gold and Action Jack in mind as I saw it mentioned in the main thread today.

A bit of a weird one, here, although it shouldn’t be. The first season of Thundercats ran for 65 episodes, meaning thirteen weeks from Monday to Friday between the last few months of 1985. So, if there was a five-part story, you’d expect it to run across one week, wouldn’t you? Well, in this case, it didn’t.

I’m looking at episodes (take a breath) 37, 42, 46, 50 and 61. To me, if it’s going to be that close to the end of the season, make it episodes 61 to 65, and finish the season proper with Lion-O’s coronation as a celebratory moment (oops, spoilers!). But, that wasn’t what they did, and it’s been 25 years, so no fixing it now, but I thought I’d have a look at each episode as Lion-O earns his stripes, even in combat with his friends.
