AAA – 09.26.26

AAA is on Youtube this evening with a few recorded matches from the August 15th taping. The announcers for tonight’s show are Corey Graves and WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield, with Jesus Zuniga handling ring introductions. Let’s watch some lucha!

Graves runs down the card and here’s a look at Mr. Iguana‘s recent history building up to the Latin American championship match at TripleMania.

Mr. Iguana vs Taurus

Iguana wants an armbar, but Taurus holds on to prevent it. There’s some mat grappling and Taurus rolls Iguana into a surfboard. Iguana rolls out of it and Tirantes cannot be bothered to make a count before Taurus breaks free. Iguana grabs La Yesca and hits a huge cross-body before snapping off a helicopter armdrag that sends Taurus to the floor. Iguana hits a pescado rana but Taurus fires up and sends Iguana into a ring post. Taurus runs Iguana back in and puts the boots to him. Taurus hits a corner splash but misses a second attempt. Iguana nails Taurus with an enziguri but gets dumped into a corner when he charges. Taurus blasts Iguana with a Meteora and follows with a spear that gets two. Taurus eats an elbow when he charges and Iguana hits a rana into a roll up that gets two. Taurus waffles Iguana with a sit-out powerbomb that gets two. Taurus yanks up La Yesca and hurls her at Iguana before yanking Iguana onto his shoulder. Iguana rolls around and crushes Taurus with a helicopter bulldog that gets three.

Based on the post-match that I’ll get to in a second, it appears that this might be a jumping off point for something between Los Vipers and Iguana. I think that’s a good use of Iguana for the time being with two technicos holding the Mega and Latin American titles respectively. Iguana never seemed too bothered here and Taurus got in a lot of his normal work prior to jobbing. This was fine, but maybe a bit subdued as the crowd was only interested in Iguana’s stuff. 2.5*

Winner – Mr. Iguana (helicopter bulldog)

Post-match sees Abismo Negro charge in to help his Los Vipers stable-mate put a beating on Iguana. This brings out El Fiscal to even up the numbers. Fiscal disposes of Los Vipers and tries to revive Iguana. Iguana and Fiscal shake hands and Fiscal pays homage to La Yesca.

Here’s a look at Los Hermanos Wagner capturing the AAA Tag Team Championships at TripleMania. After commercials, we hear from the brothers who say that winning the titles at TripleMania was a dream come true. Three generations of Wagner greatness and they are happy to carry the name forward to the top of lucha. The brothers are very excited about being in the Dusty Rhodes Classic and vow to capture that Cup as well as holding down the tag titles for AAA.

Dinamico vs Texano Jr.

JBL puts over Texano’s physique and he isn’t wrong. Texano starts with an armdrag and there’s a cover exchange to a standoff. Texano offers a handshake which is accepted, and we resume. Texano trucks Dinamico and counters a hip-toss attempt by just slamming Dinamico to the mat. Dinamico hits an armdrag, and then dropkicks Texano to the floor. Dinamico hits a huge cross-body to the floor and then runs Texano back in. Dinamico hits another cross-body and covers Texano for two. Texano dumps Dinamico down during a rana attempt before slapping on a rear chinlock. Texano hoists Dinamico for a backbreaker over his knee and then blasts Dinamico with a kick. Texano hits a leg lariat and the subsequent cover gets two. Texano hits some chops, a few lariats, and then a right cross that looked vicious. Dinamico fires up with a Shining Wizard and covers Texano for two. Dinamico hits a running cutter and instead of covering, he ascends for a frog splash that misses. Texano yanks Dinamico into two powerbombs and that ends things.

Texano still looks like he could go at a high level should he be called into that type of duty. He’s only 42 but has somehow been wrestling for 27 years now. I think Dinamico has a future if he sticks with it, as his arsenal of moves is solid and he works safely. This was fine for what it was meant to be. 2.5*

Winner – Texano Jr (double powerbomb)

El Grande Americano along with his pals Los Americanos visited a kid’s hospital after TripleMania and put a lot of smiles on some small faces. EGA had a long line of folks join him for the march in Mexico City and we get a look at that video log. EGA will be on next week’s AAA broadcast. We’ll also get the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT from Dorian Roldan.

Here’s the new Reina de Reinas Champion La Catalina talking about taking the title from Flammer at TripleMania and how it’s opened up so many opportunities for her, including being on Raw and NXT. She’s very proud as a Chilean to represent all of Latin America and wants to see everyone when WWE comes to their stadiums.

Adelicious vs AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion La Hiedra vs Lady Shani

Hiedra starts with Shani but Adelicious breaks that up with a cross-body. Shani grabs a roll up on Hiedra for two. Shani smacks Adelicious around in a corner and then blasts her with a kick. Hiedra follows with a Hip Attack and then wanders into Shani yanking her down by her hair. Shani gets yanked out by Hiedra and Shani responds with a rana. Adelicious once again flies in with a cross-body to the floor and then sends Hiedra packing with a rana. Adelicious hits an armdrag and then mashes her with a Meteora. Adelicious hits a legdrop on Hiedra and Shani breaks up the cover at two. Shani drops Adelicious with a shoulder and then slaps on an inverted Boston Crab. Hiedra flies in to break that up and slaps Adelicious full in the chest. Hiedra smashes Adelicious and then drops Shani with a huge right hand. Hiedra mashes Adelicious with a knee and then blasts her with a sit-out powerbomb that gets two.

Hiedra snapmares a charging Shani over and blasts her with a kick. Hiedra whales on Adelicious from behind, but she fires up with a rana that sends Hiedra down. Adelicious drives a shoulder into Hiedra and then bulldogs her down for two. Shani trips up Adelicious for some kicks and covers her for two. Shani grabs a rear naked choke and Hiedra flies in with a double stunner that gets two. Hiedra fires Shani and Adelicious into the same corner but they escape. Adelicious and Shani battle it out and and Shani’s Iconoclasm and subsequent cover get broken up at two by Hiedra. Shani hits a La Magistral on Hiedra and covers her for two. Adelicious rolls up Shani for two and then blasts her with a reverse thrust kick. Adelicious ascends and Hiedra yanks Shani out of the way. Hiedra hits a Michinoku Driver on Adelicious and covers her for three.

Hiedra was the biggest name currently in this match, so I’m not surprised she picked up the win here. There’s definitely some slow-burning stuff happening with Las Toxicas at the moment, so we’ll see where that leads. I thought Shani and Adelicious were decent here, and Shani probably should be doing a bit more than she currently is as she can still really bring it. This was a solid main event even though the match happened about six weeks ago. 3.25*

Winner – La Hiedra (Michinoku Driver on Adelicious)

Post-match sees Hiedra barking at her opponents as she makes her way back up the ramp. The credits roll and we’re out.

Another fill-in show with no new content happening since TripleMania, but we get back to full action next week and I am excited for it.
